We want to give a huge shoutout to these sweet kiddos, Harper, Brodie, and Kasen !

They arrived with a wagon full of donations, including towels, kibble, and detergent, all items our shelter animals need every single day. These gifts help us provide comfort, cleanliness, and care to the pets who are waiting for their forever homes.

To these thoughtful young animal lovers: thank you. Your generosity, compassion, and big hearts made a real difference. Every towel helps keep a pet cozy, every scoop of kibble fills a hungry tummy, and every bottle of detergent helps us keep our shelter clean and safe.

Your impact is felt far beyond this one visit, and it truly meant the world to us.

🌟 Pet of the Week: Cheeks 🌟

Some cats get one turn as Pet of the Week, Cheeks is somehow here for a second.

At just four years old, Cheeks has already mastered the art of making every day better. Friendly, laid-back, outgoing, and powered almost entirely by treats and affection, he is the kind of cat who can turn a bad day around with one cuddle and the rumble of his legendary purr.

Seriously, this guy might be the loudest purr machine in the adoption center.

Cheeks loves people, loves attention, and loves being involved in whatever you're doing. Whether he's curled up in your lap or reminding you that snack time is very important, life is simply better with Cheeks in it.

Around here, we like to say, "Everything is coming up Cheeks." We just need the rest of the world to catch on.

The Leadership Charlotte Class of 2026 is hosting Charlotte County’s Largest House Party, and they’ve extended the flash sale! It’s shaping up to be a night full of music, memories, and community spirit.

This week’s Tell-All Tuesday shines a spotlight on Dawn Fitzner, our Volunteer and Community Events Coordinator, whose passion and dedication help power our mission every day.

After winning a well-deserved award, Mr. Casanova was back on the job, making his rounds at Fawcett, Watson’s, the Mall, Petco, and History Park. Everywhere he went, he brought smiles, tail wags, and plenty of charm. And after working so hard, he definitely earned a sweet treat (or two)!

Between making new friends, posing for photos, and soaking up affection from everyone he met, this handsome boy has stayed busy spreading happiness throughout the community.

If that smile doesn’t tell you how happy and loved Casanova is, we aren’t sure what will. Seeing our alumni, especially Cass, thriving in their forever homes never fails to put a smile on our faces. Watching him confidently explore the world, share his gentle spirit, and represent rescue dogs so beautifully is something we’re incredibly proud of.

Don’t be shy if you see John and Cass out and about! They both adore meeting new friends, and Casanova is always happy to brighten someone’s day with a wagging tail and that unforgettable smile 🩵

Dear Kali,

Since April 2025, you have held a very special place in our hearts.

Some dogs arrive and quietly settle in. You arrived and made us fall in love.

We loved watching you splash through the hose like it was the greatest invention on earth, completely unbothered by getting soaked if it meant a little extra fun. We loved the way you waited for treats with such patience, sitting there with hopeful eyes and perfect manners, knowing your reward would come. We loved your sweet spirit, your happy moments, and all the little things that made you unmistakably you.

The truth is, we’ve adored you for a long time.

We celebrated your victories, cheered for your progress, and hoped every single day that the right person would see what we saw. A wonderful dog with so much love to give and a heart deserving of a family all her own.

And then, as fate would have it, your person wasn’t a stranger at all.

Amanda has been part of our AWL family for a long time. She has shared her heart with so many animals, giving her time, compassion, and love wherever it was needed. If someone asked us to describe a true dog lover, Amanda’s name would be at the top of the list.

So while we are going to miss you tremendously, there is so much comfort in knowing exactly where you’re going.

Amanda, thank you.

Thank you for seeing Kali. Thank you for opening your heart and your home. Thank you for giving one of our favorite girls the forever family she deserves. We know how deeply you love dogs, and there is no greater gift than knowing Kali will spend the rest of her life being loved by someone who understands just how special she is.

Kali, we are going to miss your sweet face, your patient waiting, and your joyful adventures in the water. We are going to miss seeing you around the shelter. But this is the goodbye we all hope for.

The kind where a beloved dog leaves us because she doesn’t need us anymore.

Go enjoy every cuddle, every treat, every adventure, and every wonderful day ahead.

🌟 Senior Sunday Spotlight: Dexter Luther 🌟

At 9 years old and 47 pounds, Dexter Luther has perfected the art of enjoying life.

This handsome senior is the kind of dog who finds joy in the little things. A belly rub. A squeaky toy. A tasty treat. A sunny spot in the yard where he can watch the world go by. If it sounds simple, that’s because Dexter is. He’s just a genuinely good dog.

According to his foster family, Dexter has a personality that is impossible not to love. He adores attention and will happily soak up all the pets you’re willing to give, but nothing earns a bigger smile than a good belly rub. Give him a squeaky Nylabone and he’ll proudly parade it around the house, toss it ahead of himself, and entertain himself like a puppy half his age.

Dexter loves being outdoors. Whether he’s exploring the backyard, going for a walk, splashing in water, or simply sitting at the doorway taking in the sights and sounds of the neighborhood, he is happiest when he gets to be part of the world around him. He’s unfazed by cars, bicycles, golf carts, loud music, and passing people. Squirrels and rabbits, however, are another story entirely.

He’s a smart boy who knows some commands and is eager to learn more, especially if treats are involved. His foster says he’ll do just about anything for a snack. While he responds to “Dexter,” he seems particularly fond of being called Dex Luther, which somehow suits his larger-than-life personality perfectly.

One of the things we love most about Dexter is how adaptable and social he is. He seems to genuinely enjoy people and has been settling in well while getting to know his foster family’s cat. Every day, his confidence and comfort continue to grow.

Dogs like Dexter Luther are special. He’s past the chaos of puppyhood but still has plenty of adventures left in him. He’s affectionate, playful, loyal, and full of life. Most of all, he’s ready for a family of his own.

We think Dexter Luther would make an incredible companion for just about anyone lucky enough to meet him. Now all he needs is someone willing to give this wonderful senior the forever home he deserves! 🩵🐾
