🌟 Did You Know? – Episode 3 🌟

This week we’re looking at a question we hear often: What animals are eligible for foster? 🐾

At our shelter, animals that can benefit from foster care include:
• 🐶 Dogs – adults who need a quiet home to decompress.
• 🐱 Cats – adults who prefer the comfort of a home while waiting for their forever family.
• 🍼 Bottle babies – kittens and puppies who need around-the-clock feeding and care.
• 🐾 Medical or recovering animals – those healing from surgery, illness, or injury who just need a calm environment.
• 💕 Special cases – seniors or long-term residents who thrive in a home setting while waiting for adoption.

Fostering saves lives and gives animals the chance to grow, heal, and feel loved before they find their forever homes. 💖

A note from our Director, Tara Zajas

This story seems rather appropriate on National Dog Day.

This morning, we lost power at our shelter during a nasty storm and our backup generator failed to switch on like it has in the past and as it should. Now, you would think this isn't something I wouldn't want to brag about. And it's not. Before I go any further, the generator situation has been fixed by professionals and is up and running for future problems. Things break, and we got it fixed.

However, I do want to brag about my team. Our Veterinarian, Dr. Vernet and Vet Tech, Dani, were in surgery with a dog. As you can imagine this was a problem with no power. Our team stepped in with flashlights and other support/supplies and they carried on, making sure the dog was stable and safe! In other areas of the shelter, other team members did everything they could to make sure nervous dogs were calm during the storm while loud thunder and lightning and no power, while others made phone calls to get professionals here as quickly as possible to resolve our issues. Did I mention our dog kennel area is also in the middle of a construction project at the moment?

I could thank multiple people on this post for all the little and not so little things they did today but honestly, it’s no different than most days. When I look around during moments like today, I remember why I love what I get to do and why I love who I get to do it with and why we do it. It’s all for the animals…all of it. So if you have a minute, please join me in saying thank you to this amazing team of people who go above and beyond each and every day to be the voice of those who don’t have a voice.

Petco Love and Animal Welfare League of Charlotte County are inviting adopters to share heartfelt stories about how their adopted pets have transformed their lives. This annual campaign aims to celebrate the bond between pets and their families while supporting animal welfare organizations through a chance to win significant funding.

Adopters are encouraged to submit stories describing the impact of their adopted pets, either in written form or via social media videos, to inspire more adoptions and help shelter pets find homes.

Each submission from our adopters provides a chance to win up to $100,000 in funding to support lifesaving efforts.

Since 2013, over 25,000 stories have been shared, resulting in $8 million awarded to animal welfare partners nationwide, with recent winners receiving up to $100,000.

Petco Love is a nonprofit dedicated to strengthening communities and pet families by investing in adoption and lifesaving initiatives, having helped find homes for over 7 million pets since 1999.

Please help us win up to $100,000 for our shelter!

“Paws For Love”
(Shelter pet of the week)

Meet Wilma – Your One-and-Only Girl! 💖🐾

At 3 years old, Wilma is the perfect mix of brains, chill vibes, and playful curiosity. She's an independent lady who marches to the beat of her own drum—and looks adorable doing it. Whether she’s goofing around with a toy, exploring her surroundings, or just lounging with that “I run this place” energy, Wilma knows how to keep life interesting.

She’s smart, silly, and confident, and she’s got a real soft spot for the humans in her life. But when it comes to other pets? Wilma kindly says, “No, thank you.” She’d much prefer to be your one-and-only and soak up all the love for herself—and honestly, she deserves it.

If you're looking for a fun, quirky companion who will make you laugh, keep you on your toes, and love you fiercely, Wilma is waiting to steal your heart (and probably your spot on the couch).

Adopt Wilma—because one great dog is all you need. 🐶💕

**Update Rosebud has been adopted ❤️

🌹🐾 Adopt Senior Rosebud 🐾🌹

Like her name suggests, Rosebud is a quiet beauty—gentle, graceful, and full of quiet charm. This lovely senior girl is well past the puppy phase and prefers a peaceful life with adult companions who will cherish her independent spirit.

Rosebud enjoys doing her own thing, but she’s always friendly and polite. She may not demand attention, but she welcomes gentle affection and will happily share your space with calm companionship. Think of her as the perfect housemate—low-key, sweet, and effortlessly elegant.

She doesn’t need much to be happy—just a soft spot to rest, a calm routine, and someone who understands that love can be quiet too. 💕

If you’re looking for a loyal friend who will bring serenity and warmth into your life, Rosebud is waiting to bloom in her forever home. 🌹
