This is a very difficult post that we struggled with for weeks to have to announce today.
However, for the past several months we have been dealing with a very serious health issue in our OPS family. Nancy (my wife), and our OPS founder and leader, has been dealing with and fighting a very difficult fight with cancer.
Unfortunately her cancer (which was deemed to be in remission in October 2019) recurred in July of this year. She immediately began treatment fighting with every ounce of energy she possesses!! Recently she has unfortunately suffered a few physical/medical set backs in her battle.
As a result, we have decided that we are going to take an indefinite hiatus from breeding, and for the time being cease our puppy producing operations at Old Post Shepherds.
We deeply apologize to anyone who is on our reservation list awaiting a puppy. We can't imagine how disappointed you must be to read this, but please understand our reasons why we decided to take this action.
Unfortunately, the time and effort that go into producing a puppy litter is excessive!! It includes initial Vet checks, actual planned breedings; ultrasounds, x-rays, whelping the litter, raising the litter, feeding and cleaning the litter multiple times daily, and then finding loving homes for the puppies once they can go home, administrative paperwork for registering the litters and so on and so on!! It takes up so much time and effort for what we deem a "hobby!!" Without Nancy's assistance in this endeavor it is virtually impossible for me to take on this entire task by myself.
Right now and for the foreseeable future, my priority is caring for Nancy, our daughter Jess, our adult dogs, and performing my actual job, (which really pays the bills!!) I ask that you please keep Nancy in your prayers!!
I will end by offering these words, it has been our pleasure and honor to have produced the puppies that we produced and provided to well over a hundred families over the past 7 1/2 years!! Each and every one of you and your pups are so special to us!! ~Jerry Dunn, Old Post Shepherds
