Meet Chance!
Chance came to us from another rescue after being saved from a kill auction. When he arrived, he was dangerously thin and in poor health, but with time, care, and plenty of love, he’s now a happy and healthy part of the family. Chance used to enjoy giving rides to both kids and adults, but his hoof issues have led him into a peaceful retirement. His sweet demeanor and love for grooming make him a barn favorite, even if he’s not a fan of fly masks (which he loves to sneak off and hide around the pasture). He might be the low man in the herd, but he’s a master escape artist when it comes to fly masks.

Cash is approximately 28 or 29 years old, though you’d never know it watching him move. He still runs the pastures with purpose, often herding his two mares, Kiah and Star, like it’s his full-time job.
We believe Cash was once a gaming or rodeo horse. When he first arrived, he had one speed—fast. He had all the “go” in the world, but not much “whoa.” Years of high-energy riding had taught him that standing still wasn’t an option. But after time with a natural horsemanship trainer, Cash learned to slow down. These days, he’s settled into a quieter rhythm, comfortable in his surroundings and confident in his place within the herd.
Cash has become a steady, calming presence in the pasture. He looks out for the smaller equines and keeps a watchful eye on the mares. His strong sense of routine, paired with his instinct to protect, has made him a leader among our sanctuary residents.
With his flowing mane and tail and timeless dignity, Cash reminds us every day that age doesn’t mean slowing down—it just means you’ve learned when it matters most to move with intention.
He will live out the rest of his days here at Freedom and Whiskey Equine Rescue, where he is deeply loved and truly home.

Meet Elle Amorette B. – “Kiah”
(Arabic for “New Beginning”)
Breed: Friesian
Height: 16hh
Lineage: Lolke 371 x Wicher 334
Age: 2009 foal date
Kiah is our resident heart-stealer and peppermint thief. A striking Friesian mare with a name that means “new beginning,” Kiah came to us with both a remarkable pedigree and a bittersweet past. She was lovingly raised by an owner who adored her deeply, but sadly passed away after a long battle with cancer. Though Kiah didn’t receive the early formal training most horses her age would have, her gentle temperament and eager-to-please attitude have helped her bloom beautifully in recent months.
With six months of Natural Horsemanship training under Scott Purdum of Advantage Horsemanship and three months of foundational dressage work with FEI trainer Jess Idol of Dynamic Dressage, Kiah is learning to carry herself with grace and confidence. She walks and trots easily and is beginning to find her balance in the canter. She’s still green, but don’t let that fool you—she’s smart, sensitive, and just waiting for the right rider to take her the rest of the way.
Whether you’re dreaming of a dressage partner, or a trail companion, Kiah checks all the boxes. She’s healthy, sound, vice-free, and comes from some of the most influential Friesian bloodlines in the world.
Her sire, Lolke 371 Sport, was bred from two of the most legendary Preferent KFPS stallions—Oege 267 and Reitse 272—and passed on their coveted characteristics of presence, power, and people-loving personalities. Lolke's influence continues through sons like Felle 422, making Kiah’s lineage both historically significant and genetically rich.
Kiah isn’t just a pretty face—she’s a soul horse in the making. She’ll follow you around the pasture like a dog, nudge you for peppermints, and gaze at you with those big dark eyes. To the right person, she’s not just a horse—she’s a partner for life.
