🧬 Check out the 2025 Wild Animal Health Fund Grant Recipients!
From rhino reproduction to snake fungal disease, this year’s funded research tackles some of the biggest questions in zoo and wildlife health.

With over $149,000 awarded across diverse projects, we are proud to support groundbreaking studies that advance care, conservation, and medical understanding for wild species.

📣 Some featured projects include:
🦏 Early pregnancy detection in white rhinos
🐍 New diagnostic tool for fungal infections in wild snakes
🐘 Tuberculosis immunity in Asian elephants
🐷 Reproductive hormone monitoring in Visayan warty pigs

🐘 Happy World Elephant Day from AAZV!

Today, we celebrate the strength, intelligence, and cultural importance of elephants around the world—and the veterinarians and researchers working tirelessly to protect them.

One of the biggest threats to young Asian elephants in human care and in the wild is Elephant Endotheliotropic Herpesvirus (EEHV), a fast-acting and often fatal virus. But thanks to groundbreaking research and collaboration across institutions, hope is on the horizon.

AAZV diplomates are actively involved in EEHV research and vaccine development, including efforts that led to the first successful cases of vaccinated elephants clearing the virus. Recent reports from the Cincinnati Zoo shared that young elephants Sanjay and Kabir tested negative after mild infections—marking a historic milestone in the fight against EEHV.
