We are closed to celebrate the Fourth of July.

04/07/2025

From everyone at Advanced Veterinary Specialists, we wish you and your family a happy and safe 4th of July!

Keep in mind that the loud noises and lights of fireworks can be scary to many pets. Animal control officials across the country see a 30–60% increase in lost pets each year between July fourth and sixth (AAHA). Keep your pet on a leash and be sure that they have proper ID tags and current microchip information.

As a reminder, our hospital will be open all day and night, in case your pet experiences an emergency.

Fear of fireworks is common in pets. Here are some techniques to use to help reduce fear in dogs.

The 4th of July can be a stressful time for our furry friends. Fireworks and loud noises often lead to anxiety, injuries, or even pets running away. Please make sure your pets are safe, secure, and comforted during the celebrations.

We are open 24/7 if you need us — give us a call at 805-250-5600.
Please note: all cases are triaged by severity to ensure the most critical patients are seen first.

Wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday!

📢 Important Update

At Advanced Veterinary Specialists, the pets and families of Santa Barbara are at the heart of everything we do. We are deeply committed to providing top-notch, compassionate care—no matter the circumstance—and are proud to serve this incredible community.

Due to the temporary closure of a neighboring animal emergency hospital, our emergency department is currently experiencing an increase in patient volume. As a result, you may experience longer-than-usual wait times for emergency services. If our capacity is exceeded, we may need to divert non-critical or stable cases to ensure we can care for the most urgent patients without delay. Please know that we will only take this step when absolutely necessary, and only after every effort has been made to accommodate each patient safely and effectively.

Please rest assured that our triage protocols remain fully in place, and our dedicated team is doing everything possible to provide timely, high-quality care to every pet in need. We are incredibly grateful for your patience, kindness, and understanding as we navigate this temporary challenge together.

This update only affects our emergency services—our specialty departments (oncology, internal medicine, and surgery) continue to operate normally and are seeing patients without interruption.

We will keep you informed as the situation evolves. Thank you again for your understanding!
