Taking in stray animals is no easy feat. We never know who they are, where they came from, or what parts of their past create the behaviors we see. One thing we do know, is that no matter the circumstances, we are sure as heck gonna try to help.

So, it’s time to introduce you all to Tank!🤘

Tank is here being rehabilitated, slowly. We haven’t shared much for a few reasons. His first few weeks here were ROUGH. We didnt know if we were equipped to help him. He was suffering. His anxiety was so high in his kennel that all he did was bark, pace, pant, and thrash into walls, almost hurting himself. Our hearts broke. His second day here, we were in tears wanting so badly to help him feel safe.

We got him started on anti-anxiety medication, which helped, but not fully. We aren’t gonna sugar coat it, he had some intense behaviors along with his anxiety, he had/has a deep set desire to be in control, he was willing to correct anyone who got in the way of that. We dont think he’s ever been told “no” and not gotten his way.

He was a tough case to crack, but…we think we are finally making progress with him. 🤞

Everyday is a little easier for Tank, he sits before we open the kennel, accepts us telling him “no” (and us meaning it) without reacting, and his kennel anxiety has improved bit by bit. He will even let some of us pet him with the top of his kennel open while he sits. 💕 He is now completely off of his anxiety meds, and we have so much hope for him and his future. ❤️‍🩹

So, we wanted to share this adorable picture of the happy, well behaved pup he strives to be. He’s not yet available for adoption, we want to do some more work with him first. We’ve got a ways to go!

When he is ready to be adopted, it will need to be a perfect fit for him and his needs, and someone willing to continue the work we have started with him here.

Here is a short story about Jeff and Leonard. 🥰

Jeff comes in a few times a week to spend time with our animals. ❤️ He has a lot of favorites! And the cats all REALLY look forward to seeing him.

Beside him, is Leonard! 🐈‍⬛

Leonard used to be very distrustful of humans (for good reason, he had been previously shot with a BB gun 😡).

Jeff and Leonard are friends. 💕

These two boys are from our post yesterday. They made it here to the shelter. Very sweet dogs, but the white one is a little too friendly with the other so we are keeping separated for the time being. 😅 They are not microchipped, collars with no tags or ID, and have not been neutered. They were found in Oakland Mills on 9/3. If these pups belong to you or if you might know who they belong to please call us at (319) 280-7035 or email us at [email protected]. This sweetheart borrowed our AGC lemonade stand kit over Old Threshers and brought in her earnings of $200! This was the second year that she has hosted a lemonade stand for the animals, what an incredibly loving heart she has!❤️❤️❤️

This beautiful boy was brought in to us from around the 600 block of W Monroe in Mt. Pleasant. Unique eyes, super sweet, appears to have been recently shaved in spots (most likely due to matted fur), and is not microchipped. *UPDATE: These boys are in a safe place for the night, but will be brought into us in the morning*

These two, male dogs are running around Oakland Mills. Currently at Dick Smiths right now, east of Faulkners Access on top of the hill. If these guys belong to you or if you might know who they belong to please reach out to us at (319) 280-7035. They are not here at the shelter at the moment, community members are trying to find the owners before needing to bring here to the shelter. Collars do not have any contact information.

This sweet cuddly guy came to us from the 100 block of Winfield Ave in Mt. Pleasant. He is absolutely adorable and does have a scar above his right eye on his eyebrow.
