Feel Good Fri-YAY

We first met Lulu and her hooman Kevin in 2014. She is one of our last remaining OG's. Kevin thinks she's around seventeen! Her face is mostly white now and she's still the sweetest girl.

Thanks to your support, Kane's recently arranged for a wellness visit for Lulu. She received her vaccines and a nail trim and was put on medication to help with her skin. She has a re-check in a few weeks and we will be sponsoring some bloodwork. Kevin covered the nail trim and Kane's contributed $100.

Thank you for helping us keep our senior gal healthy! There's nothing like earning the love of a senior dog.

Your Donations At Work

Don't you wanna' give this cutie a squeeze?! Thanks to your support, Kane's assisted with Mama's annual wellness exam and vaccinations. Mama has challenging allergies but her skin is looking good and she's feeling good. Mama receives a limited ingredient diet in her monthly C.A.R.E. Kit that helps keep the itchies away.

Her hooman William contributed $80 towards the visit and Kane's sponsored the remaining balance of $71. Thank you for helping us keep Mama happy and healthy with her family!

Feel Good Fri-YAY!

Earlier this week, we delivered a C.A.R.E. Kit to Mike and Mac. In addition to dry food, this included a big ole' marrow bone and treats. Mac was so excited he showed us how good he is at sitting pretty!

You may remember Mike and Mac are one of our success stories from our Pet Family Housing Initiative. Originally in a shelter, this pet family was fortunate to receive a housing placement and is now on a part of our C.A.R.E. Kit program. Thanks to you, Kane's also provided a wellness exam, vaccinations, flea/tick treatment and heartworm preventative this past Spring. Mike is disabled and lives with a very painful chronic condition which keeps him home-bound. Mac is Mike's service animal and essential to Mike's well being. We're so grateful for your donations that empower us to keep pet families like this together!

Today we were honored to be selected as one of 32 local nonprofits receiving a Forfeiture Community Support Program grant through the Hampden District Attorney’s office. This grant will fund short-term motel stays for veterans, domestic violence survivors and other unhoused pet families in Hampden County. We could not provide this critical lifeline without this grant support. Kane’s is grateful and humbled to be selected for our third year in a row. Congratulations to all the amazing nonprofits doing such incredible work in our community!

Your Donations At Work

We transported Thor and his hooman Amanda to Thor's recheck appointment yesterday. Thor is recovering from a double ear infection which has proved quite stubborn despite ear meds and a stringent ear cleaning regimen. Even though this pet family is unhoused, Amanda is diligent about caring for Thor. So we opted for a different ear med that only requires one application and is long lasting. Thor will be rechecked again in three weeks.

Thanks to your support, our Pet Family Housing Initiative is a lifeline to unhoused pet families struggling in these challenging times. Thank you for empowering Kane's to help Thor and Amanda.

Feel Good FRI-YAY!

Thanks to you, another pet family is together and feeling better tonight. Scout is nearly 11 years old and his health has been declining. Scout's mobility decreased and his hooman reached out to Kane's for help. It's agonizing anytime our pups don't feel well. Imagine not being able to do anything about it.

Your support empowered Kane's to step in and make sure Scout got an exam to evaluate his quality of life. The great news is Scout still has options. We also sponsored several different medications for pain relief and comfort. Scout's hooman contributed $318.38 and Kane's sponsored the remaining $242.65.

"Your program and charity are a gift. Scout is my best friend and I want to keep him healthy and comfortable for as long as possible. I couldn't have done it without your help."

Warm regards, Ina and Scout

Together, we change the world for one pet family at a time!

Celebrating 15 Years!

From December 30, 2012

Nova Gets Her Kondo!

What an amazing day! Kane gives two big paws up to Krew Members Linda G., Jim P. and Larry C. for helping with our Kondo delivery today! Thank you to Animal Control Officer Lori for meeting with us and the family to get things started off on the right foot. It was cold and windy, but as usual, our Krew did what it took to get the job done!

What a pleasure to meet Nova's owner! He is an elderly disabled man. When we got there, he had already snowblowed the driveway for us, which was totally unexpected. He ran out of gas, went out and got some more and then snowblowed the yard for us so we would have an easier time getting the Kondo through. Nova was also in the house when we arrived. As I mentioned in an earlier post, we have been trying for over a month to help Nova. Now we know what the delay was -- Nova's owner was confused about what we do and thought we were coming to take her away. Once he learned what we're all about, he was eager for our help. :-)

We had to take the chain link off of Nova's kennel to get the Kondo inside - this took quite a bit of work and also destroyed Jim's gloves. (Jim we owe you a new pair!) But once we got the Kondo in, it fit perfectly. We stuffed it with straw and also laid down a good layer of straw over Nova's kennel floor. We hooked up her heated water bucket (thank you Maureen!) and then it was time for the star herself to make an appearance. That is the big payoff for Krew members -- to see the dog engage with their Kondo for the first time. You can tell instantly that Nova is well loved. She is pleasantly plump and loves people. We gave her a big ole' knuckle bone and Larry introduced her to the Kondo, eventually luring her inside with treats.

The owner is very grateful to Kane's Krusade for helping him help his dog. We will be there for him and Nova in the future too. Our goal is to raise enough money to quadruple the size of Nova's kennel in the spring. We will continue to help with food, treats and bones. Nova is already spayed and utd with her shots.

Today is such a powerful example of how our nonjudgmental approach works. It would have been easy to label this owner, to get angry and frustrated and make him wrong. Instead, we used all the patience we had, we listened instead of lectured, we offered instead of telling him what to do. The result is a family who feels grateful that "strangers" care about his dog enough to spend 3 hours on a cold Sunday making her life better.

Remembering Nena

We are sad to report that Nena crossed the Rainbow Bridge last weekend. Nena was an emotional support animal for Gloria, who is a disabled senior. It goes without saying that this is a great loss for Gloria. Thank you to Family Krew member William D. for transporting Nena and Gloria and assisting in their hour of need. Your support empowered Kane's to give this pet family two and a half years together.
