Celebrating 15 Years!

This picture is from a Kane's Kibble Drive we held in 2013. Pictured are John and his emotional support animal Trixy. That was the day we met this pet family and we added them to our growing C.A.R.E. Kit program. Sadly, John passed away and Kane's had promised him if anything happened, we would always help Trixy. When Trixy needed to be re-homed, we facilitated an adoption with an older gentleman we knew and they became joined at the hip. Trixy crossed the Rainbow Bridge, but lived a wonderful life with her second pet family for quite some time, fulfilling our promise to John.

We had a great time at our Kibble Drive Meet and Greet at Dave's Soda and Pet City on Saturday. A new family contacted us and we had them drop by to pick up some food, thanks to all our donations!

You'll be hearing more about Trixy. She is an 8 year old pit bull. Here she is with one of her companions who is a disabled vet. They saved Trixy from a horrible life as a bait dog. This family received 16 pounds of dog food on Saturday and we will be following up to get Trixy spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. These families are the face of Kane's Krusade. We're so grateful for your support which empowers us to help families care for their dogs in difficult times!

Feel Good Fri-YAY!

Thanks to you, Chiquita is feeling much better today!

This gorgeous girl has lived with severe chronic ear infections for a long time. We received a referral from Tufts at Tech Community Veterinary Clinic . They are an amazing low-cost clinic in Worcester and have been one of our trusted partners for many years.

We're happy to share that Kane's sponsored $250 of Chiquita's surgery - ensuring she would get the relief she desperately needed. We're so grateful we could help this pet family cross the finish line and make this procedure possible. Thank you for helping us keep loved dogs with their furever families!

Celebrating Nasia

It is with great sadness we share that one of Kane's last OG dogs will cross the rainbow bridge tomorrow morning.

Nasia is a senior pittie. She and her disabled hooman have been a part of Kane's since 2015. They were featured in our Kane's Krusade Kalendar. This pet family is extraordinary in so many ways - both are gentle and soft spoken with hearts as big as the sun and a unique bond. They were each other's everything.

Please share a few words of comfort for Nasia's hooman. She is devastated and our hearts go out to her.

Feel Good Fri-YAY!

Grace, an 11 year old poodle was diagnosed with diabetes last fall. This requires her to be on prescription food as well as insulin. Grace is an emotional support animal for her hooman Teri, who is disabled and on a limited income.

Each month, thanks to you, Kane's sponsors the cost of Grace's medical supplies - around $40. Without our assistance, Grace would go without treatment or be surrendered to a shelter.

Can you imagine these two being split up?

Celebrating 15 Years!

Hey, guess who was in The Republican today?!

I went down to the Springfield Library to check out our room where we are holding the volunteer kickoff meeting and the woman comes up to me and says, "Oh, I recognized you from your picture in the paper today." Gotta' love the synchronicity!

Celebrating 15 Years!

From February 2023:

We received a referral from Foster Hospital for Small Animals at Tufts University of a pet family needing assistance with their dog. Bruno is a 4 month old French Bulldog who unfortunately injured his back leg while playing with his little hoomans. Dee, the adult hooman in the pet family, worked very hard to secure funds for Bruno's surgery, raising over $3,000. We sponsored $400 so that Bruno could get the vet care he needed. We couldn't let this little nugget go a minute longer with his injury. Thank you to Tufts for responding quickly to repair Bruno's leg. We will give you a pupdate later in the week.

Feel Good Fri-YAY!

And now for something a little different.

The VA has been one of Kane's most effective partners for many years. This week, they reached out to us regarding a veteran with a cat. It seems his apartment was being fumigated and he had to leave the premises for the afternoon. He had nothing to keep his cat in while they were waiting to return. Bethany reached out to Kane's to see if we had any resources.

Though our mission focuses on dogs, people donate cat items from time to time and we make them available for situations like this. Fortunately, we received a donated carrier last month and now we had the perfect recipient!

A Krew member put the carrier back together and met Bethany at a local mall for the hand off. In the scheme of things, this was not a big deal. But it's a great reminder that many times it's the small acts of kindness that mean a lot to people. We don't know who donated the carrier, but if that was you - thank you! You helped a pet family this week!

We are so grateful to Sandra, Luna Lovegood's sponsor. Thanks to Sandra's generosity, Kane's provided transportation and vet visits for both Luna and Bruno (who we posted about last week).

Luna is a senior Chi living with some chronic conditions including severe allergies. At this visit, she had her vaccinations updated and received an allergy injection which she depends on to function day to day. Additionally, some bloodwork was taken to check thyroid levels, which came back as normal. Luna also received a Seresto collar for fleas and ticks.

Luna and Bruno's hooman Josselen is disabled and saved money over the summer so she could contribute $220 to both dogs exams. Thanks to Sandra's donation, we were able to get the additional thyroid testing done and rule out another chronic condition.
