🎓🐾 HAPPY GRADUATION, JACE! 🐾🎓

After two weeks of hard work, new experiences, and confidence-building, Jace has officially completed his Board & Train program at Balanced Behavior K9! 🎉❤️

When Jace first arrived, he was a nervous boy who struggled with unfamiliar people and new environments. His uncertainty had started turning into reactive behaviors, including growling when strangers entered his home or passed him on walks.

Throughout his stay, we focused on building his confidence, strengthening his obedience, and teaching him that unfamiliar situations don't have to be scary!

Today, Jace got to put those skills to the test during his graduation outing! 🐕❤️

Although he started off feeling pretty nervous, it was wonderful to watch him gradually settle into his surroundings. Instead of reacting to people passing by, Jace was able to observe them with curiosity and redirect his attention back to his handler with very little hesitation!

For a dog who struggles with fear and uncertainty, those seemingly small moments are HUGE victories! 🥹🐾

Jace still has confidence to build, but he has made wonderful strides over these past two weeks. We're incredibly proud of his progress and excited to see him continue growing with his family!

Congratulations, Jace! Keep being brave, buddy! 💙🐾

🐾 Big or small, BBK9 does it all! 🐾

Kayden may be a little guy, but he’s putting in some BIG work! 💪🐶

Today we worked on some of his basic obedience, and he did a fantastic job showing off his progress. Kayden practiced a focused heel with nice turns, sitting when asked, and working on his down.

His down still needed a little leash pressure to help him into position—and that’s okay! Training is about building understanding and confidence one repetition at a time. As he gets more comfortable with what’s being asked, we’ll gradually fade that extra guidance and let him do more of the work on his own.

Whether they’re 10 pounds or 100+, the foundations stay the same: clear communication, consistency, and making training something the dog can understand and succeed at.

Big dogs, little dogs, and everything in between—BBK9 does it all. 🐾❤️

Having a big 140 lb dog running at you for affection... I can see how that could be intimidating to some. What big love bug!

Garth, our new temporary assistant trainer, informed me that it was time for a mandatory snuggle break. 🐱

Considering he holds extensive expertise in the field of snuggling, I didn’t feel qualified to question his professional judgment.

Who am I to argue with the assistant trainer? 😂

Tina was giving it her all in this evenings exercise session. She really turned on turbo mode.

Training doesn’t always have to look like a formal session. Some of the best training can happen while your dog is simply having fun!

Incorporating obedience into play helps keep dogs engaged, strengthens communication, and—most importantly—teaches them to listen even when they’re excited.

Izzy is a perfect example! 🎾

For Izzy, the ball is a HUGE reward. Instead of just throwing it over and over, we turn every throw into a tiny training opportunity. Before I throw the ball, Izzy is asked to sit, down, and speak. Once she completes those commands, the reward isn’t a treat—the reward is getting to chase her ball!

She gets to do something she absolutely loves while we’re simultaneously reinforcing obedience.

This type of training can help:
🐾 Build impulse control
🐾 Improve responsiveness around distractions
🐾 Reinforce known commands
🐾 Strengthen engagement with the handler
🐾 Teach dogs to transition between excitement and listening
🐾 Make training genuinely FUN

And you don’t need an hour-long training session to make progress. If your dog loves fetch, tug, chasing a flirt pole, or another game, you already have dozens of little training opportunities built into their day.

For Izzy, sit → down → speak → BALL! 🎾

She thinks we’re playing fetch.

We know she’s training at the same time. 😉🐾

🐾 Learning About Cats with Assistant Trainer Elsa! 🐱🐶

Hayden is learning how to appropriately interact with cats, and our very own Assistant Trainer Elsa is leading the charge! 😂

Having a cat like Elsa—who is confident, curious, and doesn’t immediately bolt when she sees a dog—can be incredibly helpful when introducing dogs to cats. It gives them the opportunity to learn how to calmly and politely interact while getting used to how cats move, smell, communicate, and behave.

Hayden was a little confused at first about exactly what we were asking of him, but it didn’t take long for him to start catching on. He began settling down, observing Elsa, and figuring out that being calm and respectful is the way to go.

Great job, Hayden—and of course, excellent work from Assistant Trainer Elsa! 🐾❤️
