Pet Placement Center—TN Humane Animal League We are a small, private adoption agency and Chattanooga’s oldest no-kill animal shelter. Our kennels can house about 12-15 dogs at a time.
(286)

OUR MISSION:
Pet Placement Center aims to reduce animal suffering by finding responsible homes for animals in need, promoting spay/neuter to reduce pet homelessness, and emphasizing responsible animal care through education and example. ABOUT OUR SHELTER:
We house about 25-30 cats onsite between our 2 free-roaming cat rooms along with having adoptable cats at the Naughty Cat Cafe. Our dogs get to

spend the day outdoors in fenced in yards and then sleep indoors. Kittens will remain in foster homes until fixed and ready for adoption. We also utilize foster homes for some of our pets with special needs.

For those of you who’ve been following the stories of the dogs we rescued from a hoarding case in Murray County in February of this year, we’ve gotten a great pupdate from Nacho (formerly Nelson) and Tofu (formally Esther)’s pawrents!

“We adopted Nacho and Tofu back in May. I wanted to let you guys know that we love our doggos so much, and though the leash training is taking some time, they’re definitely getting comfortable in their new environment. Just this week, Nacho felt comfortable with me petting him and he started to lick my hand and face. Tofu meanwhile loves to play with her red ball. Thank you for your amazing work, you do a world of good for our four-legged friends 🤩🐶.”

To be honest, we weren’t sure how Nacho/Nelson would ever settle into a home; he was by far the most traumatized of the five dogs we rescued from Murray County. When we saw that another nearby rescue, TiggerTown, had only one remaining dog left from the crew they rescued from the same hoarding case, we hoped we were doing the right thing by bringing her to PPC. What has ensued is the best possible outcome we could have dreamed of for either dog—as you can see from these pictures and videos, Nacho and Tofu adore each other, and we’re so grateful to their family for choosing to keep them together!

UPDATE on Bridget: She had her sutures removed last week and is all healed from her back leg amputation. Even though her foster family thoroughly enjoys carrying her around like a baby, she’s also getting lots of exercise and playtime to get stronger on 3 legs. She is climbing stairs without issue and is making friends with the dog in the home. She still needs more time to grow before getting spayed but is well on her way to recovery and being ready for adoption. Thank you to everyone who gave as your donations brought in $330 to help with Bridget’s veterinary costs!

We connected our pets with some wonderful families this last week. This includes Nona, the sweet Shepherd girl who was left tied to a pole at our center early one morning. She had some bad teeth and needed extractions, but now that her dental is done, she is enjoying life with her new mom. Six year old Lena was adopted as a kitten and returned last year after being in a home for 5 years. She is a round girl who could stand to lose some weight so she gets to go on an official diet now that she is queen of her castle. We also saw off kittens Spring Roll and Ramen and our 1 year social tabby girl Kate. Congratulations to all of our adopters and thank you for supporting animal rescue🩵

Almost two years ago, we took our beloved Farina into our care shortly after she delivered her puppies at another nearby animal shelter. While we are still grieving the untimely loss of our beloved girl, we felt it was important to turn tragedy into an opportunity to help other animals in need.

And as it turns out, our friends at the Murray County, Georgia Animal Shelter had recently taken in a mama dog and her six puppies. Because they were overcrowded, they needed to get these dogs into rescue…

…and so we leapt into action and trucked down to Georgia to pick up this crew and bring them home with us! World, meet Isabella and her puppies Nook, Cranny, Slider, Daisy Mae, Brewster, and Celeste. The pups are still getting settled and will needed to be fully vetted, but they are happy and playful—we’ll share a pupdate when they’re available for adoption!

In loving memory of Farina💔

Our hearts are broken. She was a shining light to everyone she met and we are devastated that we have to share this post. Our dear Farina passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Thursday morning. She had been undergoing treatment for heartworms but was doing well with everything. We asked the vet to perform a necropsy on her which showed nothing obvious, so their best guess is that she had a blood clot--which is a known risk of heartworm disease and treatment. We had seen her and interacted with her earlier that morning, and she was her happy, normal self. It was a complete shock to us all and very hard for the staff to find her that way.

Farina came to us from another shelter in 2023 after delivering a litter of 8 puppies. We helped her wean her puppies and ultimately adopted all of them out successfully. Heartworm disease can take months to show up on bloodwork, so we don't know if Farina came to us with heartworms, or if the worms resisted preventive treatment, which can sometimes happen.

Farina was doted on by many volunteers, board members, and staff with regular outings and love. She loved car rides, stuffies, lazy days, and always had her tongue sticking out. She was just adorable! She was our family and we were hers. She always had a home with us and we are all devastated by her absence.

We cannot overstate the importance of monthly heartworm preventive to keep your pet healthy and thriving. Unfortunately, heartworms are growing more resistant to treatment, so it's also important to have regular bloodwork done on your dogs. We share this information in the hopes that it can prevent misfortune.

Thank you to everyone that loved her and is affected by this loss as we know she touched many lives. Thank you for your thoughts as we have to carry on during this most difficult time. Until we meet again…🌈🐾
