Did you know that scanning for a microchip is the first way we try to connect with owners when a stray animal comes to MHS?

Microchip information can be found on adoption paperwork, registration forms, or microchip collar tag, so you can easily ensure you have your pets microchip number handy when you need it. Pets can also be scanned at your vet or local animal shelter, like MHS, if needed.

Microchipping is not only the sole permanent solution for pet identification, but matching information can also serve as a proof of ownership when claiming your lost pet!

We believe microchipping is a great way to improve your chances of reuniting with your missing companion. You can stop in anytime during business hours of 12-6pm weekdays and 11am-5pm Saturdays. No appointment is needed!

We want to give a BIG thank you to Alex Bowman and Ally Racing for making a generous donation to support Midlands Humane Society! For the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series, Midlands Humane Society has been selected to partner for the upcoming race on Sunday, August 3rd, 2025 at the Iowa Speedway race in Newton, IA.

We are grateful to be chosen by Best Friends Animal Society and to be the beneficiary of such an incredible opportunity and appreciate everything this group does to support animal welfare organizations like ours!

Finnley is feeling himself!

This handsome 1 year old lab mix has come out of his shell and is ready to make all the friends — human and canine alike!

🐾🎉 It’s National Mutt Day! 🎉🐾

Today we’re celebrating the lovable and completely unique pups known as mutts — and they’re more common than you might think!

🔍 Did you know?
👉 About 95% of dogs in shelters are mixed breeds, based on DNA studies.
👉 Most mutts have three or more breeds in their ancestry — true originals!
👉 Shelter staff do their best to identify breeds, but it’s often a total guessing game! Breed labels are rarely accurate without testing.

Still, these mystery mixes are full of personality — goofy, loyal, smart, sweet, and sometimes a little weird (in the best way). And they’re 100% adoptable!
