International Galgos Day is a moment to pause, breathe, and remember some of the most gentle and sensitive souls among us. Galgos are soulful sighthounds, quiet, intuitive, and deeply feeling.
In Spain, many galgos are still bred and used for hunting, spending their lives in confinement and neglect. Too often, they are denied safety, nourishment, movement, and connection, the very foundations of well-being. When the hunting season ends, those considered “no longer useful” are abandoned or killed, as if their worth depended solely on performance. 🐾💔🐾
Like greyhounds, galgos are exploited for what they can give, then discarded when they can no longer serve a purpose.🐾💔🐾
Today, we honor the galgos and greyhounds who have suffered, who were abandoned, and who never made it to safety. And we hold deep gratitude for the advocates, activists, and rescuers who refuse to look away and who work tirelessly to restore dignity, safety, and a second chance at life for these extraordinary souls.
May we continue to choose compassion, awareness, and action for them. 💕🐾💖
