Yesterday, 54 pets entered the doors of KC Pet Project. That’s an average day for us since between 50-60 new animals in need of help, arrive at our shelter every single day. Some are lost and hoping their families come for them. Others are abandoned, brought in as strays, or surrendered by people who can no longer care for them.

If you recognize any of these pets, let us know! Our team is working hard to get these animals back home where they belong, but any help is very appreciated.

🚨 PSA for all dog lovers: Waived Fee Wednesday is TOMORROW and it’s kind of a big deal 🐶💥

All dogs 20 pounds or more and 6 months or older will be FREE to adopt at KC Pet Project. Yup, zero dollars. Nada. Zilch. (Okay... there is a $12 city license fee for KC residents, but still, this is an insane deal!)

Every pet comes spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Basically, they’re ready to go home and start their new life with you immediately.

Right now we are showing off some of our adorable new arrivals! Thank you so much for capturing these sweet faces, Rachel Wrenn. 📸🫶

This weekend, from August 1st through August 3rd, every pet at KC Pet Project is just $25 to adopt because we are completely full and we urgently need to make space for the pets still coming through our doors.

Right now, there are no open kennels at our shelter. None. We receive an average of 40-50 pets every single day, so this means we are in a space crisis. We are doing everything we can to provide lifesaving care for the animals in our community, but we need your help to keep going. By adopting, fostering, or donating, you can make a real difference for pets who are out of time and options.

The $25 adoption fee includes spay or neuter, microchipping, and vaccinations for your new best friend. You can adopt from our KC Pet Project - Main Campus, Zona Rosa Adoption Center, Petco Adoption Center, or from one of our amazing foster homes!

If you’ve been thinking about adding a pet to your family, now is the time. Please help us save lives. Adopt this weekend and give a pet in need the loving home they deserve. 💙

Oh, and by the way, did we mention this is ALL pets? Because it is! Puppies and kittens are included in this special!! 🐶🐱

This adoption special is in partnership with Clear the Shelters, who are celebrating their 11th annual campaign designed to promote pet adoption and raise funds for rescues and shelters nationwide.

It’s Waived Fee Wednesday at KC Pet Project, and this week we need your help more than ever!

Our shelter is completely full. We currently have 390 dogs in our care and there are zero open kennels at our main campus. This means we are faced with heartbreaking decisions every single day. We are doing everything we can to save lives, but we cannot do it alone. We need our community to step up.

If you’ve been thinking about adopting or fostering, now is the time. All dogs 6 months and older, weighing at least 20 pounds, are free to adopt every Wednesday, and the dogs you’ll meet here are some of the most loving, resilient, and special animals you could ever hope to welcome into your life. Even temporarily fostering a dog helps us open a kennel and gives that animal a chance to breathe outside the stress of the shelter.

The dogs in this post are just a few of the many hopeful faces waiting to be seen, loved, and chosen. Please come visit us at the KC Pet Project - Main Campus, or Zona Rosa Adoption Center today, or tag a friend who might be looking for a new best friend. Together, we can get through this and continue saving lives. 💙

Did you know you can adopt adorable KC Pet Project cats at 11 different Petco locations all across the Kansas City metro area? Thanks to our amazing partnership with Petco, our Petco Cat Habitat program helps bring more sweet kitties closer to loving homes. This program allows us to expand our lifesaving efforts for cats not only from our own shelter, but also from shelters across Missouri that may not have the space or resources to care for them.

By placing cats in these cozy habitats at Petco stores, we’re giving even more felines the chance to meet their new families. Each kitty in our Petco Cat Habitats comes with the same adoption perks as those adopted from our main shelter and satellite locations. Right now, we have so many lovable cats waiting to meet you at our Petco partner stores!

And here’s a little bonus for anyone reading this post, you’re getting insider info! We’re transferring tons of adorable kittens that just became available for adoption to all of our Petco locations tomorrow, and every habitat will be filled with sweeties looking for love.

Check out the available cats and find your nearest location at kcpetproject.org/adopt/petco-cat-habitats and help us spread the word. You might just meet your new best friend 💛🐱

We want to send a huge thank you to our friends at the Kansas City English Bulldog Rescue and the St. Louis English Bulldog Rescue for the incredible work they do 💕 These amazing teams regularly step up to help with dogs who have complex medical or behavioral needs, and their support means the world to shelters like ours.

Right now, they are providing much-needed medical care for sweet Poppy, and we are so grateful for their willingness to jump in and help her on her healing journey. We truly cannot thank them enough for the love and dedication they give to dogs who need a little extra care 🐾 You are making such a difference and we are so lucky to have you as part of our lifesaving community!

Meet Meesha 🐾✨ This sweet 10-month-old pup is looking for her perfect home at our Zona Rosa Adoption Center!

Meesha is shy at first but once she warms up, she becomes the ultimate cuddle buddy. She’s quiet, loves car rides, and is perfectly content watching the world go by from the sidelines. But give her an open space and a good chew toy, and she’s all play!

Shelter life has been overwhelming for this sensitive girl, so she’s hoping to find someone patient and kind who can show her that life outside the shelter can be safe and full of love.

Meesha adores other dogs and really comes to life when she’s around them 🐶💞 She would thrive in a home with another pup to play with, and she would love to meet any potential dog siblings before heading home.

Come meet this gentle soul at Zona Rosa. She’s ready to bloom with someone who believes in her 💕 Plus, her head tilt? C'monnnnnn, she's the cutest.

Visit https://kcpetproject.org/animal-details/?aid=58568901&cid=11&tid=Dog to learn more about her. To see all pets currently available at our Zona Rosa Adoption Center, visit https://kcpetproject.org/adopt/zona-rosa/

Something incredible happened at KC Pet Project this week and we could not wait to share. Thanks to a generous donation of pet food from our friends at Chewy, we were able to invite our fellow animal welfare organizations to our shelter to help distribute the love. We welcomed teams from across Kansas City and loaded them up with several pallets of dog food to support their lifesaving missions. Each of these organizations plays a vital role in keeping Kansas City’s pets safe, healthy, and cared for, and we are proud to work alongside them. It was a true community effort, and we are so grateful to Chewy for helping us make this possible.
