UPDATE ON CALVIN:
Calvin had a few teeth pulled yesterday. The good news is the mass under his tongue shrank and our vet thinks it’s inflammatory vs a nefarious tumor. He’s gonna have a couple weeks of steroids to see if it responds and will just monitor for now. Then this HUNK will be available for adoption! Calvin will need to be an indoor only kitty as he is FIV+, but he can be around other negative kitties without issue.

If you’re thinking of adding a mushy lovebug boy to your home, consider this built-like-a-brick-outhouse, thicc boi 😺

Paws crossed for our buddy Calvin’s oral mass removal surgery today! He’s wooing all the ladies at Sylva Animal Hospital 😉

He has gained 2 pounds and all of his hair back since he was last seen at the vet!

Calvin is one of 20 cats we have taken from a large colony TNR effort over the past two years. We have fixed and vaccinated 24 cats from the same colony as well, thanks largely to the dedication of Donna and Lauren, cat lovers in that neighborhood. 🧡

Hi, my name is Dove and I’m at the Catman2 Shelter because a free roaming dog attacked me and hurt my leg real bad. I was lucky a nice lady saw the dog grab me and she ran after him and saved me out of his mouth. She tried to help me but my leg bone was sticking out and I needed a lot more help than she could give me. I got lucky again and she got Catman2 to agree to take me! And this morning I got even luckier because New Dad took me to meet a veterinarian named Dr. Black, and she and her friends petted me a lot and I took a long nap and when I woke up, my hurt leg was gone and it didn’t hurt anymore! Everyone was really nice and they gave me medicine that made me feel really good and happy, so I’ve been purring all day! I have to have a couple more surgeries later for fixing something called a hernia inside my tummy and also to make me not be able to make babies, but those can wait while I recover from my leg surgery.

I’m super glad I’m here at the shelter - the food is AWESOME and it’s ALWAYS there! I have a soft blankie and a plush toy in case I feel like cuddling and no one is around. But New Dad checks on me a lot and tells me I’m a brave little girl and that he loves me and that I’m going to be some lucky person’s best friend one day. He told me a kitty angel named Gerard was watching over me during my surgery. 🪽

Catman2 helps a lot of kitties like me. I would purr with gratitude if everyone who saw this post could send $2 to Catman2 on 🐾 🤞🏻🥰💗🫶🏻

📸: Calvin (big orange), Sisqo (little orange tripod), and Amber Lynn (citrus cone of shame, cut her own bangs) snuggling like great pals on the Kitty Condo room (aka Green Room). Lorena observes from her wall box of judgement.

Updates on these friends:
Amber Lynn got adopted today 😻🫶🏻🥲

Calvin gets his mouth surgery this coming Wednesday to remove a mass under his tongue, which is much less noticeable now so hopefully it’ll be something benign.

Lorena talked and talked to a lot of volunteers today. Y’all really came through with offers for helping socialize the kitties. Sisqo was a little overwhelmed at first but enjoyed some attention in his safe space inside the wall box Lorena is sitting on. We have a nice schedule of social volunteers booked out for the week. Happy to book appointments for next week in advance!

Update: We have booked our social volunteer schedule for this week, but will be happy to book appointments for next week in advance! Thanks for coming through for us with so many offers to help! 🫶🏻🥰💗

Hi local friends, we have a specific need for kitty socializing volunteers. We have several squirrely, skittish, not well socialized kittens and teenager kitties who need a LOT of work to become the adoptable pet quality companions we know they can be!

Basically I need folks who can volunteer 1-2 hours being assigned to a few specific cats, in which you quietly pet them, play with them, give them treats, spoil them, and hold them even if they aren’t happy about it. None of the cats or kittens are aggressive, just scared. I need reliable folks who can stay on task, take directions, and stick to their assigned kitties. Without help, these cats will be unadoptable, stuck here, and further taking up precious space for more adoptable cats we could help.

Call 828-293-0892 to schedule an appointment to be a Social Volunteer this week. We are closed Wednesdays and Saturdays, but here the rest of the days by appointment only. No Social Volunteers before 11am.

🚨 CUTIE ALERT 🚨

Just Herbie popping in to say he’s doing just fine and Dad is just busy and hasn’t posted about him recently. His incision is healing well and when he is bigger and his jaw is more stable, there are a couple of teeth in the scar line that will likely need to be removed. Other than that, Herbie is focusing on being extra cute, pondering the existence of aliens/his potential lineage to them, and learning how to do regular kitten stuff. Oh, and EATING - lil dude sure can put it back!

We love us some Herbacious B!

Alright folks, we have THREE 3ish month old kittens available for adoption. A little maniac tabby boy named Chachi and two little girls, a black long haired gal named Brittany and a black short haired gal named Briar. They’re all sweet and fun to be around and they loooove to play! We have a full house and would love to see these babes go to loving indoor homes.

Well it’s been an interesting day.

We reached 105 intakes for the year with the complicated birth of India’s tiny kittens. She was part of a small colony that we are assisting with and their caregiver found her in distress when she went to feed on her day off. Normal acting India would not have allowed herself to be handled but she didn’t have a lot of fight left because she had an upper respiratory infection and was heavily pregnant. The caregiver was able to get India in a kennel and brought her to safety at Catman2.

We were able to start treating India, who turned out to be a real sweetheart who was craving comfort even from a strange human. Less than 24 hours from intake, she began to go into labor and didn’t feel well enough to do much. We kept a close eye on her today while still giving her space to let her instincts lead the way, but did end up having to help remove a couple of the kittens from their sacs and placentas and stimulate them. India was exhausted and we don’t blame her. With a little help and a lot of encouragement from the humans, this kitty mom was able to rest up and regain her strength, and by bedtime rounds she had cleaned the kittens and allowed them to nurse. And then she ate some nice sloppy high cal food to help her be strong and give her babies everything they need.

Tonight we all rest after another wild day at Catman2. 💤

Today is the last day of Dr. Sims’s estate sale. We still have a lot of nice furniture and neat little treasures, so please come by from 10am-3pm today. There are signs for parking, so come on by and walk up the gravel driveway and get your shoppin’ on! Harold wanted his estate to benefit the two non-profits he founded and dedicated his life to: Catman2 and The American Museum of the House Cat, so it’s all for the love of cats!
