Ted made his TV debut today!! He is the absolute sweetest pup. He won't last long, so be sure to fill out a pre-adoption application or stop by the shelter to meet him in person. He deserves the absolute best home full of love & snuggles...and plenty of places to nap obviously! ❤️😴🐾

This summer has brought more than just heat—it's brought heartbreak.

In the past week, we’ve had multiple puppies abandoned at our shelter gates or left in boxes on the side of our street. Some arrived scared and shivering in the early morning hours. Others came dangerously close to traffic or heat exhaustion. All of them came to us needing love, care, and a second chance at life.

We were already full.

Now, with this unexpected surge of abandoned animals, we are stretched far beyond our limits. Every room, every crate, every hand is working overtime. And still, they keep coming. The phone keeps ringing. The need piles higher.

💔 We cannot do this without you.

The summer months always bring a slowdown in adoptions, but our expenses never slow down. In fact, they grow. Adoption fees don’t even come close to covering what it takes to care for each animal. Spay and neuter surgeries, vaccinations, emergency vet visits, food, shelter—it adds up fast. And here’s the hard truth: we receive no government funding. We rely solely on your donations to keep going.

Adoption: Esme’s Fresh Start—with a Side of Krav Maga 💕

Sweet mama Esme came to our shelter with a tiny, scared litter of kittens, doing what mama cats do best—protecting and nurturing her babies with quiet strength and endless love. We watched her raise them with such gentleness, and one by one, each of her kittens found their forever home.

And now… it’s Esme’s turn! 🥳

The last of the family to be adopted, Esme has officially left shelter life behind thanks to Nathan, who swooped in and gave her the happily-ever-after she so deserved. From dedicated mama to beloved companion, this girl’s journey is complete.

Her new life? Probably filled with cozy naps, window sunbathing, and maybe a crash course in Krav Maga from her martial-arts-master human. We’re pretty sure Esme is about to become the most peaceful (but secretly powerful) kitty on the block. 🐾🥋

Wishing you a life full of adventure and love, Esme. You’ve earned it. 💛

Adoption Update: Buckwheat’s Journey Home 🐾

Buckwheat’s story started off with more questions than answers. He was found nearby, clearly having been wandering for quite some time—maybe even abandoned. Despite it all, he showed up with a heart full of sweetness and a head full of knowledge, already knowing several commands. We were instantly smitten by his gentle nature and knew deep down that someone special would see what we saw.

While he stayed with us a bit longer than we expected, fate had a plan all along. Buckwheat didn’t just find a person—he found his people. 💛 One of our star volunteers at Pets Fur People, Lisa, and her husband Peter, knew Buckwheat was the one. And just like that, this sweet boy’s days of wandering and wondering are over.

Today, Buckwheat is home. He’s safe, he’s loved, and he’s exactly where he belongs.

Congratulations, Buckwheat, Lisa, and Peter. ❤️🌟

Founded in 1963, the Humane Society's Pets Fur People is the oldest No-Kill, brick and mortar animal shelter in East Texas and is a selective admission, life-sustaining animal sanctuary. Their mission is to provide a temporary haven for the animals in their care, until they find their forever families. They are committed to reduce and ultimately eliminate euthanasia as an acceptable method of population control for unwanted dogs and cats. They promote the positive results of spay/neuter programs to reduce dog and cat overpopulation, and pride themselves in teaching responsible pet guardianship. 🐶🐱

🌟 Adoption Spotlight: Paris' Happy Ending 🌟

From heartbreak to healing, Paris' story is one we’ll never forget.

As a tiny puppy, Paris was abandoned at the shelter with her siblings. Life had already dealt her a tough hand — she was missing an ear and in need of medical attention. But despite the pain and uncertainty, Paris never let her spirit be broken. She greeted every day with tail wags and a hopeful heart, watching one by one as her siblings found their forever homes.

But her time was coming. And when it finally arrived, it was truly meant to be.

✨ Enter Susie. Back in 1984, Susie wrote a children’s book about a Newfoundland dog who was born with only one ear. Little did she know that, decades later, she’d meet her real-life muse — a brave, beautiful dog named Paris who matched the story she once dreamed up.

Now, Paris is curled up by Susie’s side, living the next chapter of her life in a home filled with love, understanding, and destiny. We couldn't be happier for these two soulmates.

Meet Simon – a 3-year-old pup who's been living the shelter life since 2022. That’s almost 1,000 days without a family to call his own. Watching this video, you’ll see just how smart, curious, playful, and full of life he really is. But what you don’t see? The years he’s spent waiting behind kennel doors.

Simon LOVES his toys, goes wild for treats, and lights up when he gets attention. He’s got so much personality and love to give – he just needs the right person to give it to.

He deserves more than a shelter. He deserves a backyard, a couch, a best friend, a forever home.

🎉Peppa’s Puppies Are Ready for Adoption!

Some time ago, we shared that Peppa, our sweet French Bulldog mix, would need a C-section to safely deliver her puppies. But Peppa had other plans—this brave mama surprised us all by giving birth naturally, with the amazing support of a vet team by her side the entire time. Thanks to the donations made for her care, Peppa was able to deliver safely and receive the medical attention she needed. Every single pup came into the world healthy and safe! 🙌

Now, Peppa’s precious puppies are ready to find their forever homes! Two of them have already been adopted and will be heading home next week—but we still have five adorable little ones waiting for the perfect family. 💕

🐶 All available pups are males, except for one sweet girl named Tina.
They’ll be ready to go home next week and are overflowing with love, snuggles, and puppy kisses.

👑 Adoption Announcement: Princess Has Found Her Castle! 👑

Our sweet little Princess has officially been adopted by the amazing Jacquelyn, and we couldn’t be more thrilled! 👏 From the moment Jacquelyn laid eyes on Princess, she just knew they were meant to be. She visited often, spending time with her future fur baby, patiently waiting for the day Princess was ready to go home.

Born right here at the shelter to her incredible mama Mia, Princess has always been surrounded by love—and now she’s off to her forever kingdom where she’ll continue to be treated like the royalty she is. 💕👑

Wishing Princess a lifetime of cozy snuggles, grand adventures, and all the royal treats a puppy could dream of. Congratulations to Jacquelyn and Princess—what a perfect pair! 💫

🎉Adoption Alert: LEO

Sweet Leo hasn't been with us very long, but this little love bug managed to steal our hearts in record time — and now he's found his forever home! 💛

When Leo first arrived, he was a bit unsure of what life had in store for him next. But those days are already behind him, because now he has zero doubts: his future is full of love, belly rubs, and the best company a pup could ask for.

We're beyond thrilled to share that Leo has been adopted by the wonderful Rick, who is already proving to be a fabulous fur-dad. 🐶💫
