It’s no secret I’ve been through hell recently, so I’m hopeful you’ll show up now more than ever…for me, for these horses, and because of the incredible village I’ve built ✨
In 15 years of working in Thoroughbred aftercare, I’ve been fortunate to work with countless owners, trainers, grooms, and fans who continue supporting their horses long after retirement. That’s why aftercare works. Because of YOU! 🫵🏻
Then there are the heartbreaking exceptions.
A few weeks ago, we took in a severely injured racehorse who honestly should have come with a lot more support than he did and in all honesty, most would have euthanized. I chose to fight for him, because he chose to fight for me. Some of his former owners are the very people who sit on Thoroughbred racing and aftercare boards, but couldn’t be bothered to return a text, let alone help with his care. The ONLY connection to assist was his trainer. Funny how quickly some forget these horses once they stop earning checks.
These horses give us everything they have. The least we can do is show up for them when they need us most.
This horse is lucky to be alive and has a long road ahead of him, but I’m hopeful that one day, he’ll be blazing the trails.
If you’d like to help this special guy continue his recovery, please consider donating. He needs all the help he can get! Skip the Starbucks or the tall can for a day or two, and send a retired racehorse a little treat money instead. 🏇🏼🩷
