Every year, CSRET holds a calendar contest to raise funds for the dogs in our care. It’s more than just a fundraiser, it’s a celebration of the pets we love and a lifeline for those still waiting for a home.

Last year, the calendar took a pause. But this year, it came back stronger than ever… and thanks to your incredible support, it raised $29,000 for the rescue. That’s twenty-nine thousand dollars going directly toward saving lives, providing medical care, and giving second chances.

To everyone who entered, voted, and cheered us on, thank you. You made this happen. 💛🐾

A QUICK LOOK AT THE YOUNG AND READY TO ADOPT!

1) Ariel – A real toot, full of energy, sweet and playful. Skittish to loud sounds and quick motions. Looking for a safe, protected environment for this beauty. Needs a canine companion. Two to three years old with a natural tail and beautiful black and white markings.

2) Boots – A handsome black and white parti dude who is full of energy. He is on the larger side at 33 pounds and is just two years old. Fine as an only dog but he might be a bit much for younger kids. Boots had juvenile cataracts repaired so he will need regular visits to an ophthalmologist. He loves to fetch and does pretty well walking on a leash.

3) Chance – a gorgeous black and white with brown accents. He loves chasing balls and racing around the yard. He learned the doggy door quickly and is housebroken. Good with other dogs. It is evident in Chance’s three years of life he has had many untreated ear infections because he has calcified (hard) ears. Ear ablation surgery will be performed before he is adopted. The adopter needs to be prepared to make accommodations for a low hearing dog.

4) Oakley – Another young (two years old) boy who makes a stunning impression with his red coat. Good with kids 7 and older.

5) Posie – A buff cockapoo according to former owner although shaved down she looks like a cocker spaniel. A couch potato who doesn’t like walks. Would thrive in a one dog household. Small in stature but large in personality. Five years old.

Our ball obsessed, handsome guy, Boots(Bootsie) is looking a a foster home or his forever family.
Boots is a young guy at about 2 and weighs about 35 lbs.
He is pretty active, as you might imagine and absolutely carries his ball with him everywhere, including in bed when he is ready to sleep. 🤣
He loves to fetch and run figure 8’s in the back yard, so he would do best in a home with a nice yard that he can run around, freely.
He is quite good with other dogs, but we have not yet tested him with cats or young children.
He would be best suited in a home that is somewhat active, but he is also quite a lap boy and gets attached to his people. He is still working on his “kitchen surfing” manners, but has gotten so much better at sitting back and observing.
He is quite a sweet, loving boy who is in excellent health and looking for his forever family.
If interested in meeting Mr Bootsie, please completed an application on our website -

Our Story

In 1988 Sharon Elliott, a Cocker Spaniel enthusiast, was called on to assist in a raid of a backyard breeder. Sharon, horrified by what she saw, became determined to assist Cocker Spaniels who were abandoned and helpless.

The operation started small with two volunteers placing a dozen dogs a year. Within ten years this noble effort attracted a core of volunteers who re-homed a hundred plus dogs a year. In the late 1990's Cocker Spaniel Rescue established an internet presence with a website, www.cockerkids.org. While the website helped recruit volunteers and donations, the number of Cocker Spaniels in need increased dramatically. Now we have a presence on FaceBook and we are reaching even more Cocker Spaniel lovers.

Today CSR serves the greater Houston area with foster homes stretching from Conroe south to Lake Jackson, west to Katy and as far east to Deer Park. Our primary service area is around 5,600 square miles with a population of 5.7 million people. We serve an area bigger than three individual states (Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Delaware). Thirty states that have populations smaller than the greater Houston area. In 2009 we were contacted about 633 Cocker Spaniels in need of help and we adopted out an all-time high of 300. In 2009, we were awarded the Pedigree Breed Rescue of the Year at the Westminster Dog Show.

Dedicated volunteers are the heart of Cocker Spaniel Rescue of East Texas. Currently we have about 50 volunteers and 30 foster homes. We are an all volunteer organization (no paid employees) and do not operate a facility. We refer to the Cocker Inn® as a virtual home, representing our network of foster homes and boarding kennels. About 80% of the dogs are in foster homes. The remaining 20% are boarded at several kennels across the greater Houston area. We would love to have foster homes for all the dogs but being boarded in a kennel is better than being on death row. We extend our thanks to those of you who "volunteer" money. Your donations enable us to provide veterinary care and board dogs when foster homes can't be found.
