Cold weather can exasperate arthritis symptoms for your pets🐾⛄ Here are some from Dr. Judy Jasek to support your pet if they have arthritis symptoms:

Reduce or eliminate processed carbohydrates as they are very inflammatory. This includes ingredients and seed oils such as:

❌corn
❌soy
❌wheat
❌barley
❌lentil
❌potato
❌pea protein
❌canola

They become simple sugars that promote inflammation when any of these are broken down in the body. Many of these are also found in processed diets! The inflammatory effects are enhanced when they are processed at high temperatures as is the case with kibble diets.

The best diet is a for cats and dogs! These formulations consist of meat, bone, and organs. Adding in high-collagen treats such as poultry feet or wings will provide additional nutritional benefits for the skin. We recommend these whole-food additions rather than more processed joint supplements. For dogs with good digestion, additional saturated animal fat such as tallow or lard can provide added nutrients including vitamin D.

For more customized nutrition advise, we offer affordable nutrition-only consultations. Visit ahavet.com for more information

Here are some from Dr. Judy Jasek to help keep your pets safe and healthy this Thanksgiving 🦃🍂🐾

✔Be sure that your pet does not ingest holiday decorations. Toxic flowers, pinecones, and small decorations can cause choking or intestinal blockages if ingested. Keep your decor pet-friendly to avoid a holiday mishap or ER vet visit!

✔Scented candles and other holiday scents can be irritating to some pets, especially cats. Watch for signs of respiratory congestion, sneezing, coughing, or runny eyes and nose.

✔Have some healthy treats available for your guests to give your pets! This will make it less likely for your pet to sneak something you would rather they don’t have!

✔ Ensure your pets are secured while your home is busy with the hustle & bustle of guests coming and going. Make sure their ID tags are securely on & updated in case they do get out of an open door.

✔ Provide a quiet place for your pet to relax and decompress from all the holiday bustle! Create a quiet/cozy place with their bed, toys, and water where they can relax as needed.

What are you and your pet(s) thankful for this Thanksgiving? How are you celebrating with your pet(s) this week? We'd love to see pictures ⬇📸🐕

❓When will we start asking the hard questions❓

💡 Awareness is the first step to protecting your pet’s health.

💡Why are so many still blindly trusting what’s being recommended — without asking what’s really inside?

💡Even as new technologies make their way into pet care, few stop to question the impact. Trust is earned — not assumed.

💡It’s time to look beyond the label, beyond the prescription, beyond the “routine.”

❓How can you help your pet take herbs and supplements ❓

It can sometimes be a challenge to get your pet to take herbs and supplements. Here are some suggestions that we have found useful:

Pills or Capsules:

1. If your pet is a good eater, then just hiding them in the regular food may work. Most products can be given with food, but it is a good idea to ask if this is the case.

2. If necessary, try hiding them in a special treat such as

grass-fed cheese (https://grasslandbeef.com), healthy hot dogs, tripe, butter or coconut oil.

If none of these work, you can try these commercially made products:

a. Meat Butter: https://www.danubeadornments.com/product-page/farmstead-meat-butter

b. Pill Hiders: https://www.lordjameson.com/collections/pill-hiders (please note that these are not recommended ingredients, so should be used as a last resort)

with our LoLa and her mom Lisa 🐾

LoLa Scala, a 10-year-old Morkie (Maltese/Yorkie) was living her best life (or that is what we thought) until 5/14/23 when we found a lump on her neck. She was immediately seen by her veterinary who did tests and the lab results showed Lymphoma (5/18/23). As LoLa’s mom, I had no idea what this meant. She saw the oncologist on 5/23/23 for consultation who did a Flow Cytometry IML. She confirmed it was multicentric lymphoma – StageII B.

My time was spent researching, talking to people through my network and learnings, and educating myself with as much information as I could to find the best solutions for LoLa. I wanted LoLa not only to beat the cancer, but live a healthy, high-quality life for many more years.

In the first month of diagnosis, I watched a Dog Cancer documentary where I learned a LOT about cancer, and how dogs get cancer. I had no idea dog food (kibble) could be a cause of cancer. I’ve been cooking LoLa’s food for most of her life, but she did get kibble her first year. Another revelation was the fact that vaccines can cause cancer and lower dog’s immune systems. There are only (4) vaccines needed: Rabies / Distempered / Adenovirus / Parvo! I believe I over-vaccinated LoLa which may have been a cause.

It was during this time that a friend of mine first mentioned Dr. Judy’s name. I listened to her on a podcast knew that I had to reach out. She and I have been working together since 7/18/23. Beyond the documentary, I found a great product through a nurse (friend of a friend), called Barkumin from India. There are many other supplemental products, including Mistletoe shots, that have become part of LoLa’s “survival plan” thanks to Dr. Judy.

LoLa is now 12 1/5 years old. Her diet consists of cooked proteins (salmon, pork chop, lamb); smoked lamb lung (from a local provider); crushed blueberries; organic pumpkin puree; crushed
sesame seeds; a teaspoon of mixture of supplementals, organic mushroom broth for mixture; and pellets sprinkled on to her food. She also gets Four Marvels Si Miao San pills twice a day along with Mistletoe shots twice a week. Her dog treats consist of animal organs, dehydrated fish, lamb, or pork. She gets No kibble! NO carbohydrates! No vaccines! She goes on walks twice a day.

I truly believe that Dr. Judy has prolonged LoLa’s life through her diet/nutrition guidance including the Mistletoe shots. Thank you, Dr. Judy!

❓Is health created or nurtured❓

🐾 Your pet’s body already knows how to thrive. It doesn’t need to be “fixed” — it just needs support, balance, and real nourishment.
🐾 You know your animal best.
🐾You see the signs, the habits, the instincts — you’re their voice and their guardian.
🐾When we trust nature and listen to our pets, true health happens naturally.
🐾Health is simple. Nature made it that way.

❓What is the best approach for dental care❓

Dr. Judy Jasek shares more in her Substack post ⬇️

I get asked frequently about the best way to care for pets’ teeth. Many guardians are hesitant to have their pet anesthetized for a dental procedure, yet sometimes this is necessary to mitigate painful teeth.

Let’s start with the basics. Home dental care is important for pets just as it is for humans. As with most things, diet is the first place to start. Feeding a raw, species appropriate diet is the best way to help keep the teeth clean. Not only are raw meat and bone naturally abrasive, but the nutritional benefits will help support healthy teeth and gums, especially if the diet is started early in life. Additional chewing, especially for dogs(cats are not typically big chewers) will also help. Dried treats such as tendons or bully sticks, along with raw poultry bones will help scrub unwanted plaque off of the teeth and massage the gums.

Brushing your pets’ teeth with coconut oil or ozonated olive oil is another great way to help keep the tartar from building. For pets that are resistant to the brush, then simply rubbing the oil on the gums will help reduce inflammation.
