Some heroes have paws and wet noses.💛

This week is International Assistance Dog Week and we would like to honor assistance dogs, those who raise and train them, and the veterinary teams who keep them healthy. Assistance dogs provide more than companionship; they provide freedom and confidence to the people they help.

🔬 You know that slimy stuff that sticks to your pet’s water bow? That’s called biofilm. What’s biofilm? Glad you asked!

Biofilm is a buildup of bacteria and other microorganisms that stick to surfaces in moist environments. It feels slippery and can look like a thin film or residue. It often forms on pet bowls, inside water fountains, and even in pipes.

🐾 Why is it a problem?
• It harbors harmful bacteria that can make your dog sick.
• It can cause bad breath and digestive issues if ingested regularly.
• It protects bacteria from being rinsed away easily, so just running water over the bowl doesn’t remove it.

🧽 How to clean it properly:
• Wash your dog’s bowl daily with hot water and dish soap.
• Scrub thoroughly with a brush to break up the biofilm.

💡 Preventive tip:
Using stainless steel or ceramic bowls instead of plastic reduces biofilm buildup since plastic scratches easily, giving bacteria more places to cling.
