"You run a rescue? Wow! You're living my dream!!"
Ok. Let's test that theory. Here's a day in the life of the founder of a rescue - an EASY day...
Luckily, it's Tuesday, so I have help with morning chores. Before 6am, hay is in action - 22 full hay nets, 4 bales into various feeders - and I'm inside mixing up feed pans and meds. 3 pans of mash, 4 feed bags, 11 pans of feed. All feed is out by 715am. At which point, I trot on to Webster, to do chores there. Mash for Bing and momma, hay and ration balancer for Santana.
Getting back to GRG home base, and what do I see? A minor colic episode from Lunar Meatball. A dose of banamine, check for gut sounds and check her gums, close watch for a bit - ok, she's good. Now to get in some work for my REAL job. The one that regularly takes a back seat to the running of a rescue.
But not for long - now it's time for 250 mile road trip with a trailer to pick up Demi and Chilli. Paired with a last minute farrier appointment to get them back on track, this duo made their way back to GRG home base.
Are you still with me? OK - good. Because it's now barely 1pm.
And your next phone call is from a very diligent foster. Blue has injured his eye, and needs and emergency veterinary visit. Good thing you're already hooked up to the trailer...
And now, it's after 10pm. I just finished evening chores in Webster, and it's Tuesday - so evening hay nets have been hung by our incredible volunteers. Taking just a minute eat some breakfast while eve mash soaks, before I bring out evening feed. 1 mash pan, 2 feed bags, and 8 pans.
And this is just another Tuesday....
