One of the hardest things about working with rescue/shelter dogs is the little moments that most people never get to see. 💔
Like when you’re out on a walk and it’s time to head back inside, but they just don’t want to go. They sit down, look at you, and refuse to move. And honestly, I don’t blame them one bit. I wish I could tell them they don’t have to go back, that someone is coming for them, and that one day they’ll have a home of their own.
For those few minutes outside, they get a break from the constant barking, noise, and stress of being in a kennel. They get to enjoy the fresh air, sniff around, feel the sunshine, and just be a dog without all the chaos around them.
For us, it’s just another walk. But for them, it might be the best part of their entire day.
And that’s what gets me. Knowing that when my day is over, I get to go home, but they have to go back inside. Back to the same kennel, the same noise, and the same routine. Waiting for someone to notice them. Waiting for someone to give them a chance. Waiting for a family that may or may not ever come.
I know rescues/shelters do the best they can with what they have, but a shelter is not a home. And no matter how much love and care we give these dogs, we can’t replace what having a family of their own would mean to them.
No dog should have to spend their life waiting for a few minutes of happiness outside of a kennel. They deserve so much more than that. 💔
If you’ve ever thought about adopting, please come see us. Take the time to meet the dogs that get overlooked. The ones that are scared, the ones that are too excited, the ones that don’t show well in a kennel. Sometimes the dogs that struggle the most in a rescue/shelter are completely different once they’re given the chance to feel safe and loved.
You don’t have to find the perfect dog. Sometimes you just have to be willing to give a deserving dog a chance.
Because at the end of the day, I don’t want to keep walking these dogs back to their kennels. I want to watch them walk out those doors with a family who will never bring them back.
Please adopt. Be the reason their next walk out of the rescue/shelter is their last. ❤️🐾
