PAWS – Peachy’s Animal Welfare Society is a grassroots nonprofit dedicated to supporting both local and global animal welfare projects. Through events like this, PAWS raises funds and awareness for vetted partners making a real difference for animals in need.

This year, we’re spotlighting Sneha’s Care, a powerful animal welfare organization in Nepal, known for their work in rescuing and rehabilitating injured and abandoned animals, promoting humane treatment, and advocating for systemic change. From street dogs to farm animals, their reach is wide and compassionate.

🐶🧠 Wag Worthy Wednesday: Puzzle Feeders! 🧩🍽️
Next up in our enrichment series: Puzzle Feeders — the brain games your dog didn’t know they needed! 🎯🐾

You’ve probably seen them:
🌀 Maze bowls
🔒 Locking drawers
🧺 Flaps, sliders, or snuffle mats

From easy to expert level, puzzle feeders come in all shapes and sizes — and they’re more than just fun toys!

💥 Why use a puzzle feeder?
✅ Slows down gulpers to prevent gas and diarrhea 🤢
✅ Turns boring mealtime into a mental workout 🧠
✅ Helps reduce boredom, anxiety, and excess energy 🐕💨
✅ Builds problem-solving skills in a positive way 🧩🎉

🍽️ Training Tip:
Try feeding one meal a day in a puzzle toy.
Start with something simple like:
🐾 A slow feeder bowl with dry kibble
🐾 A muffin tin with kibble under tennis balls 🎾
🐾 A snuffle mat with scattered treats
🐾 A treat ball that dispenses food as it rolls

➡️ Then, level up! Use more challenging toys that require your dog to flip, paw, or nudge their way to success. It’s training and enrichment all in one. 🙌

No reason for mealtime to be boring — let them work for it and have fun doing it! 😋💡

🧠🐾 Mindful Monday: Reinforcement in Action!

This week’s focus: ATTENTION 👀💬

Did you know that your attention — whether it’s positive or negative — can be very reinforcing to your dog? 🤯

🐶 For example:
When your pup jumps up and you push them away or say "Stop it!"...
🎯 They might think it’s a fun game — like they turned you into a squeaky toy! 🧸👋

⚠️ The same goes for:
🔊 Demand barking
🧦 Sock stealing
🐾 Pawing or nudging

Even if you're annoyed, your reaction might be reinforcing those behaviors!

💡 Try this instead:
✨ Notice the good stuff — like when your dog sits politely, lies down calmly, or chooses to ignore a distraction.
👉 That’s the perfect time to give attention: a gentle word, a pat, or even a treat! 🥰🎁

🎯 Training Tip of the Week:
Pay attention to what your dog is doing right before they get attention, praise, or access to something fun. Make sure it’s a behavior you want to see more of! 🙌

🔁 Remember: Behavior that gets reinforced is behavior that gets repeated.

📚🐾 Back to School 🐾

Kids aren’t the only ones heading back to class this fall — our four-legged students are packing their “backpacks” (okay, maybe just their treat pouches) and heading to K9 Wisdom’s Enrichment Center Day School!

Our day school program is designed to challenge your dog’s brain, build new skills, and burn off energy in a fun, positive, and safe environment. Think of it like school for your dog — where the lessons include:

Let’s talk about doggy pedicures! 💅🐾

Keeping your dog’s nails short may seem like a small issue (especially when it can cause so much stress for both you and your pup 😬🐶), but it’s incredibly important for their long-term health 💪🦴.

When nails are left long, they can cause pain in your dog’s toes and feet 🐾😣, forcing them to adjust their normal gait 🚶‍♂️ and posture 🧍 to relieve the discomfort. Over time, this can lead to early arthritis 🦴⚠️.

💡 Pro Tip: The best way to have successful nail trims is to start early with desensitizing your dog to trimmers ✂️ and paw handling 🐾.
Keep sessions short ⏱️, low-stress 😌, and use plenty of pawsitive reinforcement 🎉🐕. That keeps everyone happy 😄🙌.

If holding your dog’s paw 🖐️ and the clippers at the same time feels like too much to juggle 🤹‍♀️, try conditioning the use of a nail board 🪵.
It’s a simple shaping game 🧠🎯 you can play at home that helps keep nails filed naturally!

The key?
Let them go wild pawing at the board 🐶💥 — reward any and all engagement 🥳, even if they accidentally whack your arm 😂💪.

Have you ever taken your dog out for their daily walk 🐾 and had to drag them down the path because they are constantly stopping to sniff at everything? 🐕‍🦺 In our busy lives, this can seem like incredibly frustrating behavior 😤. But, for your dog, this is their daily news briefing 🗞️✨.

Sniffing 👃 is a highly engaging mental exercise 🧠 for your pooch 🐶. Dogs have more than 200 million scent receptors 👀. So when your dog sniffs, they aren’t just detecting general odors — they’re gathering detailed info 🕵️‍♂️ about what’s happening in their environment 🌎.

Is their neighbor friend feeling well? 🤒
Are there any new dogs 🐕 that have moved into the area? 🏡
This is the equivalent of your dog's social media feed 📱🐾.

Imagine going to an art museum 🖼️ and someone blindfolds you before you can walk through 🎨🙈. That’s likely how your dog feels when they’re pulled along a walk 🚶‍♀️🚶 and not allowed to sniff 🛑👃.

Why is sniffing so helpful? 🤔
Think about the life of a dog 🐾 — their timelines are determined by us, their humans 👩‍🦰👨‍🦱. They’re taken out at specific times ⏰, usually rushed through a potty walk 🚽💨, and fed on a schedule 🍽️.

Allowing your dog to take control 🎮 of the pace and timing during their Sniffari 🐶🌿 can be hugely beneficial, especially for anxious pups 🐕💗.

So, what does a Sniffari look like? 👣
The biggest thing is to let your dog take the lead 🧭🐾.
Allow them to explore 🕵️‍♀️ and experience the world with their nose 🐽🌍.

Is there such a thing as too much sniffing? Nope ❌👃
Just watch their body language 🐾💬 to ensure they’re open and relaxed 😌 as they sniff away!

We’re diving into powerful ways we reinforce our dogs’ behavior — even when we don’t realize it! 😅🐶

Today's focus: TREATS 🍖🎉

One of the strongest tools we have to reward behaviors we love — like:

✅ Responding to cues (sit, down, come)
✅ Offering eye contact 👀
✅ Staying calm around distractions 😌

💬 Ask yourself:
👉 What did your dog do right before they got that treat?
That behavior is being reinforced — and will likely happen again! 🌀

🚫 But be careful — we can accidentally reward unwanted behaviors too:
🙈 Jumping
🙉 Barking
🙊 Pawing at you

If a treat follows any of those (even by accident), your dog is learning those behaviors work. 🧠

🎯 This week’s challenge:
Notice exactly when and why your dog earns a reward.
Reinforcement is always happening — so let’s make sure it’s shaping the behaviors we want more of! 💪🐾
