Cleo, who was once HSMC Hobo who had the eye surgery, competed in her first cat show this past weekend! It was hosted by the Cattyshack Cat Club in North Augusta and her new family entered her in the competition as a household pet.
Cleo earned two finals towards her title! (They also adopted Creamsicle and brought him along to keep her company. He did great, too.)
What Is A Household Pet?
A household pet in The International Cat Association (AKA) TICA is the Following:
Any cat that is of a mixed breed or a purebred that may not quite meet the breed standard. These cats may be registered with TICA for a fee of $10.00 and then shown at a TICA show in the Household Pet category or division.
An idea of what HHP cats can be: they can be pedigree cats that are unregistered or do not meet the breed standard, such as a Ragdoll that has a white spot on its nose that should not be there, or a Scottish Fold that has straight ears. These are faults according to their breed standard, but they can show in HHP division.
These special cats come from breeders who sell them as pets or shelters, and are adopted as loving pets and companions. They enjoy the love and attention they get from their families and do well in the show ring.
What Happens In the HHP Show Ring?
Each cat or kitten must have clean ears, and its nails must be clipped. The judge will also check to ensure its body is clean and free of debris/fleas, etc.
Does Size or Color Matter?
The HHP may be big or small, chubby or thin, short-haired or long-hair, curly hair or straight hair, or no hair at all! These cats may come in any color combinations or pattern.
Believe it or not: HHP cats can be Earless, Blind, Deaf, and can have only three legs! Another requirement is that the males must be altered, and the females must be spayed.
