Sometimes we get requests for homes on older dogs.

We have to sit and consider what's best for the individual dog.

We had no intention on placing Juni, but a perfect retirement home that has a lonely 12 year old cardigan male has come up. So Juni is being spayed Friday and will go to her new home once recovered.

When we place older dogs we usually only ask for the spay to be covered.

While we won't have any older girls available for a bit (Zuzu is also going to live with a friend who no longer shows and had cardigans once nessie is weaned), we may consider a sort of "guardian" home for Harrison, especially a home where he can do herding (that means a home where he can stay intact and we may use him for breeding. But most likely only once or twice if we do)

Also Rizzo found her perfect home and leaves next Thursday once her staples are out

We did a major overhaul on the website!

Every cardigan champion we have bred is somewhere on the website along with our foundation girls.

We updated old pedigree links to the new breeder archives site and made sure every dog has a link to their OFA page.

And lots of new photos.

We are very proud of our dogs and breeding program and believe the website reflects that. It also shows an in-depth look of the dogs we aim to produce.

Since we had someone advertising off color and not fully health tested cardigans in our comments yesterday we figured this would be a good time to do some education.

The CWCCA only approves Reds/Sables, brindles (of various shades), Black and white with Tan or Brindle points, and Blue Merle with Tan or Brindle points. We are also allowed to be up to 50% white and occasionally we do get mismarks that we place in pet homes.

No breeders should be trying to breed red merle, double merle, liver, etc.

As for health testing on top of DM and PRA cardigans should be tested for OFA hips and eyes checks from an Opthalmology Clinic.

Cardigans that have all OFA testing get CHICS. We have several CHICS.

And yes even though we try to breed the best dogs possible occasionally we do get dogs we decide not to breed due to them not meeting our standards of quality health wise etc.

Singletons are so special

Nessie (Reneeseme) loves attention since she has no siblings to play with.

She's 6 weeks old

Shes a unique merle just like her mom Zuzu.

Nessie will stay here for now, but we have fall/winter plans for puppies.

It's been a busy 2 weeks with shows in Kenner, LA and Little Rock, AR and all the usual dog chores and care.

We have several new titles to celebrate as well!

Baby Nessie is almost 6 weeks old!

Memo is a new AKC Champion at 8 months old!

Bonnie finished her UKC championship

Atlas finished his Grand Championship

Hanks, Zelda, Bruce, and Denver all got nice wins.

We spayed momma Selena who had 2 wonderful litters and will now just be our pet.

Rizzo is getting spayed Friday and we are hopeful a home will come for soon.

The rest keep us busy!

We are hopeful for some fall/winter puppies

Today is a VERY special day at Windmill Cardigans…we are celebrating a very happy 12th birthday to our matriarch, the one and only QUEEN Lani!! (Officially known as AKC/UKC CH Coedwig’s Sunrise On Lanikai Beach ROMb)

We weren’t sure we would ever be celebrating this milestone, since Lani was diagnosed with diabetes 3 years ago. Despite having glaucoma in her remaining eye (she lost one eye due to an injury many years ago), she is in remarkably good health, and remains the Queen of the household!!

OFA normal eyes, DM, and PRA clear

She's full of life and loves everything and everyone. Great with all other dogs and use to cats and farm animals. Travels great and leash, crate, and house trained.

Her only issue, she will not pass her OFA hips so will need to be on a daily joint supplement like Gylcoflex.

We love this girl and know she will make a great pet for someone.

Asking 1500 which does cover her spay. She'd UTD on all vaccines and is giving monthly heartworm/flea tick prevention

Another busy week in the books!

Baby Nessie (Lucas/Zuzu) is 3 weeks old!

At the Longview show:

Dayton won his 2nd Best Veteran in Show win (and a Group 1 and 2 over the 3 days)

Daytons youngest son Hollywood won 2 4-6 Puppy Group 1 wins (Bred/Owned by Emma Montague, Lazy M)

Zelda and Teagan won a big OH group 4 win and 3 BOBOH wins and 2 BOS wins and 1 Select

Bruce won 3 selects for points towards his Bronze (owned by Melanie Conant)

Denver was WD/BOW all 3 days putting him at 7 points at 8 months old

Spruce was WB 2 days and WB/BOS another day putting her at 10 points at 7 months old. She just needs her majors

We are ready for another busy week with our Cardigans!

Little Shakira has found her new home with her half sister Pepper (Billie/Dayton April 2023).

We have several homes that have 2 from us and they all get along fabulously.

The past 2 weeks have been busy, busy!!!

We had a wonderful singleton girl (Nessie) born 7/3/25 to Zuzu (CH Windmill's It's a Wonderful Life) Sired by Lucas (GCHB Woodrose Dark Magic BCAT FDC TKN ATT) who's been perfect and easy since birth.

And in the show world we had the San Antonio shows and then went to Houston for our big Bluebonnet CWC specialty show and the all breeds.

We picked up some big impressive wins at the shows especially with Dayton winning Best in Specialty Show!!! A Zach daughter (so Dayton granddaughter) won the other specialty. Individual pictures will have full names and wins, and owners.

We also have a new Champion with Calypso (our 40th cardigan champion bred by us). Both majors on Baby Memo (shes up to 12), 6 points on baby Spruce (she's up to 7), 4 on baby Denver, grand major on Atlas, Grand major and other points on Bruce, and BOBOH wins and Select wins on Zelda.

We also had a ton of fun educating everyone on Cardigans at Houston and loved the big crowds our setup had while they were all out playing.

We are so thankful for all the owners of Windmill Cardigans who help us make this big dream all possible.

While we only had a singleton this summer we do have fall litters planned.

We currently have 2 girls available

Shakira, 4 and a half month brindle girl (show or companion) Sired by Dayton

And Rizzo a 2 year old blue merle girl for a non-breeding show home or a companion home due to her failing her OFA hips (GCH Windmill-Del Sur's Bad Reputation CGC TKN).

Both are DM and PRA clear and all parents have OFA passing hips. Rizzo has normal eyes

We will be at the Houston dog show starting Tuesday with a big pack of Cardigans (including baby Shakira) so come by and meet everyone!

We are located in Northeast Texas but can get the girls to Kansas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and beyond in the next month for the right homes.

In happier news Teagan and Zelda (GCHB Windmill's The Legend of Zelda CGC TKN ATT) was BOS all 3 days for 5 grand points and they won BOBOH on Saturday

Just 2 more months left of the owner handler year and this team will be trying hard to get into the top 10 before school starts.
