Sumter Animal Control The Animal Control Unit’s primary role is to proactively limit the number of stray animals running at large in the City of Sumter.

This page is managed by volunteers to post found pets and network for adoption/rescue. We do not handle complaints or get involved with issues that need to be addressed by law enforcement. If you need to talk to Animal Control to file an animal complaint, report an animal, or require assistance otherwise, please call the shelter at 436-2066. If you have an animal emergency outside of normal business hours, contact the Sumter County Sheriff's Department.

Kiddie was found living alone in a wooded area. She is 10-12 months old and weights 32 pounds. She was brought to animal control, scared and unsure of the world around her. Kiddie was a little shy and confused but just needed time to adjust to the shelter. With the gentle help and encouragement from our volunteers, Kiddie has started to trust more and more. She has learned how to walk on a leash, and is now accepting love with a wagging tail and soft eyes. This precious girl is as sweet as sugar. She may be a little timid at first, but she’s ready to find a home where she’ll feel safe, cherished, and loved every single day. Kiddie is searching for a family to give her a second chance.

Ginger was found doing what all good moms do—caring for her little ones. This beautiful girl was discovered at a local school, nursing her six adorable puppies and trying her best to keep them safe. She arrived at the shelter as a stray, still in full mama mode and has done an excellent job. Ginger's puppies are now weaned and safe in forever homes so she is ready to find a new home and a fresh start for herself. This adorable girl enjoys taking walks and showing us her gentle nature. Ginger is the perfect medium size for just about any home and would thrive with a patient, loving family to call her own. She weights 36 pounds and is 2-4 years old.

Nettie’s story began in a wooded area, where she and her three siblings were found all alone. They were brought to animal control, scared and unsure of the world around them. Nettie was especially shy at first — confused, quiet, and needing time to adjust. But with the gentle care of our volunteers, Nettie has started to blossom. She's learning how to walk on a leash, accepting love with a wagging tail and soft eyes. This precious girl is as sweet as they come. She may be a little timid at first, but she’s ready to find a home where she’ll feel safe, cherished, and loved every single day. Nettie is searching for a family to give her a chance.
