“Don’t Get Exercise-Bound”

There’s an exercise for everything.

Need more softness? There’s a drill for that.
Need better stops, circles, leads? Yep, plenty of exercises.
But here’s the truth:

If you get so focused on the exercise that you forget why you’re doing it… you’re missing the point.

It’s not about checking a box.
It’s not about finishing the pattern.
It’s about what your horse needs in that moment.

Training isn’t about running through routines, it’s about building feel, timing, and connection.
It’s easy to become exercise-bound.
The real challenge is staying horse-bound, attuned to what’s going on underneath you.

So pause. Breathe. Ask:
Is this helping my horse?
Or am I just doing it because it’s what I planned?

The best horsemen know when to let go of the plan and follow the feel.
Because progress isn’t found in the pattern, it’s found in the partnership.

This will be a ‘rail class’ or ‘group riding’ practice clinic!! Expose your horse to a group or ‘show environment’ without the total chaos! This will be controlled chaos! 🤪🤪

Show practice! All the things your horse may do at the show or clinic & you think to yourself, man I’d really love to work on this with other horses around- now is your chance!

We will work on things like:

😱 My horse rushes when other horses are trotting or loping past or around him

😳My horse pins ears, rushes, or kicks when other horses comee up behind us

🙉My horse gets buddy sour at shows and screams as we go around the arena

🫣My horse won’t stand still when we all line up in the center

🫠My horse doesn’t have a jog- he only goes fast

😮My horse doesn’t stand tied well at my trailer

If you have any or all of these issues at the show, come on over and let’s work on them!!

😎We can also play with some obstacles and things!

When your priority is being a good steward of horsemanship, every ride, every cue, and every step becomes a reflection of understanding, not just performance.

The ribbons and scores will come, but let them be the byproduct—not the purpose. Seek the horse first.

Simone today!
We’ve had snow and ice this week so we haven’t been as productive as I’d like. That’s ok though! We had a great day today with the Sun shinning! ☀️ The fun thing about horses is some days even when you aren’t feeling the best they still need fed, cared for, and worked.

I started the day not planning to ride her but as we went on she was just doing so wonderful I had to ride her!
We practiced our shoulder, sideways, and hip movement on the ground.
We practiced our lunging both ways with ground poles and some obstacles.
We picked up all our feet a few times and she was so very good!

We ended with a calm ride in the arena with nice soft turns and forward movement.

I really really love this horse!
