It’s today, and Lainey is here to celebrate! Lainey is a beautiful female, about 2 years old, with a fluffy long coat. She’s a special needs kitty, so she’s looking for just the right family. You see, Lainey has a seizure disorder of unknown origin, but it’s well controlled with medication. Lainey tolerates other cats and she likes dogs. She loves young children too! On Thursday, we said goodbye to Zule, a long-time resident of the FeLV sanctuary. Zule was a dear friend of William, who pre-deceased him, and most recently was best friends with Calliope, with whom he would cuddle after their lively play sessions. Zule was my office mate during the covid telecommuting years. He would lounge nearby, sniff my hand, but never wanted me to pet him. He did trust me to put his food bowl right next to him, which was an honor. Thank you, sweet Zule, you were stand-up fellow, and we’ll miss you very much.

Penelope 3 is ready for adoption! Penelope is about 4 years old and recently lost her person. She is gentle and affectionate, and she would appreciate a little extra understanding to help her adjust to so many changes. Penelope is great with kids. Here's the latest on some of the kittens in our care.
Update on Brooklyn: Seven month old Brooklyn is still at Central Veterinary Hospital, where the staff is closely monitoring her. When she was rescued from the outdoors, Brooklyn was starving and weighed just 3.4 lbs. The good news as of today she has gained 1lb!

Wonder's Update: Wonder has thankfully tested negative for the more serious causes of her neurological symptoms, (see her with Nick in the video). Although she still has an upper respiratory infection, she is improving every day. She has appointments with Dr. Bishop at UVS and Dr. Hardaker at
Central next week, and we hope to learn more about her condition.

Kitten Update: Nine of our OSC kittens are scheduled for their spay/neuter surgeries next week, which means they will soon be ready to find their forever homes!

Great News and Two Urgent Calls for Help
We have some fantastic news! Thanks to the incredible support from our OSC community, we not only reached our Kitten Season Fund Drive Goal, but we surpassed it! We are deeply grateful for your contributions, which will help our kittens receive their spay and neuter surgeries, final vaccinations, and microchips, preparing them for their forever homes.

But as you know, things happen fast in rescue and we are extending this fund drive to save two kittens in critical condition. We humbly ask for your help.

Brooklyn's Story: On July 25th, an OSC volunteer found a 7-month-old kitten in her yard. Brooklyn was starving and lethargic. She was admitted to Central Veterinary Hospital, where she is being treated for an upper respiratory infection, parasites, and other serious ailments. Most concerning is her emaciated state, as she weighs just 3.4 lbs.

Wonder's Story: On July 26th, a kind woman called us for help with a kitten she found staggering and wheezing. We took the kitten to Upstate Veterinary Specialists (UVS). Dr. Briggs noted that Wonder's intermittent breathing obstruction and neurological symptoms might be due to a bot fly larva in her nervous system or brain. Alternatively, she could have a neuro infection like toxoplasmosis or a fungal infection. Wonder was admitted to UVS for treatment and testing, and we will know more in the coming days.

Victoria is ready for adoption! She’s about a year old, with a confident, affectionate nature. Victoria is all black with a single white whisker, and a bit of white on her tummy. She is good with children, and gets along with other cats and dogs. Victoria is affectionate and likes to cuddle, plus she loves to play! A huge thank you to Clean As A Whisker Feline Spa & Suites for designating Orange Street Cats (OSC) as the recipient of their monthly Nail Trim Fundraiser! For the month of July every $15 nail trim is donated to OSC!

Meet ‘The Tony Kittens!’ When Tony went to work he had no idea that he'd be rescuing five kittens left in a box outside his workplace door! And thanks to OSC foster mom Lindsey, all five are doing well. They’ve been examined, tested for FIV/FeLV and Feline Heartworm, received age-appropriate vaccines and are nearly big enough for their spay/neuter surgeries. All thanks to donors like you!

We Need Your Help. We’re very close to our $15,000 goal, but we need your help to reach it. On top of emergencies and little ones who need extraordinary medical care, we have over 25 kittens, including The Tony Kittens, who are in the process of getting routine vetting, including spay/neuter surgeries, shots, and microchips, all required before they can go to new homes. Houdini is still looking for a nice home! He’s just a sweet, mellow boy who is very friendly. Houdini gets along well with dogs and other cats. He would be very happy if his buddy, Cheeks, could go with him to his new home. Houdini had a rough time surviving on the streets, but he’s very grateful to be loved and safely indoors now! 🧡

Cheeks is still looking for a nice home! He’s a loving guy who gets along well with other pets. He does well with children too. Cheeks is about 5 years old and was rescued from outside, where he and his buddy, Houdini, were having a tough time. Cheeks is safe now, and looking for a loving home.
