We have made a promise to every animal that comes into our care that no adoptable pet will ever be euthanized for time or space constraints. This means that they will remain safely in our care until they have found their furever homes. Whether through adoption or placement with our no-kill rescue partners outside of the

Imperial Valley, we will do whatever it takes to give these animals every chance possible at a long life filled with unconditional love and happiness. We do not receive any supplemental funding from the government, state, county, or city. We operate solely, and heavily rely on the generous contributions from friends near and far. We are not affiliated with the Humane Society of the United States or the ASPCA, nor are we affiliated with any other local shelters or rescues. Would you like to help our shelter win $100,000? Your Love Story is needed to make it happen!

National nonprofit organization, Petco Love and our shelter want to hear how your adopted pet has transformed your life in big and small ways. We are asking our adopters to share their heartwarming and inspiring tales of love about the pet they adopted from our shelter.

We want you to brag about your pet and submit your love story to inspire more pet adoptions and help shelter pets find loving homes. With over 100 shelter pets patiently waiting for loving homes while in our care, we are certain that your heartwarming Love Story will encourage more community members to make adoption their first choice!

Participants can submit their Love Story in written form or share a link to a public-facing social media video, or by using both formats. This allows adopters to creatively express the unique ways their pets have impacted their lives.

Submissions for Petco Love Stories are open to individuals ages 18 and older, or those with parental consent. In 500 words or less, participants can share their Love Story along with photos or videos of their adopted pet. Submissions close at 11:59 p.m. (CST) on September 29, 2025. Whether it’s written or a social media video, every adopter is asked to submit their Love Story via the submission form which you can find via this link:

Our shelter is a private non-profit organization with BIG dreams of making a difference within our community! As our local agricultural community continues to grow, so do the needs for our animals and their welfare. Imperial County is known to have limited resources when compared to other shelters in urban and coastal areas, and our rural location and unique demographics have meant dealing with limited funding which directly impacts animal welfare services within our community. Despite the obstacles and limitations, our dedicated team of staff and volunteers has always been able to produce pawsitive outcomes for the thousands of homeless pets that enter our care each year! With the support of our community and the Love Stories they submit, we will be able to accomplish bigger and better things for the animals we serve.

Wiley came into our care from Brawley Animal Control as a stray exactly one year ago this past Saturday! Wiley has been such a good dog ever since he came in. He’s a big goofball who LIVES for treats! Wiley does very well with other dogs (both big and small) and he does great with kitties too! Wiley also walks very well on a leash, and we are absolutely certain that with some time and consistency we will have no problem picking up basic commands! Everyone at the shelter has their fingers and paws crossed that our big goof, Wiley finally gets his big break and makes it out of the shelter and into a home on his one-year anniversary! 🐾🤞🏼

We would like to give a big THANK YOU to our very good friend Debbie Bloom Feldstein for fundraising and donating to our shelter earlier this week! Thanks to her, we were able to purchase 60 blocks of ice on Tuesday for the 100 shelter pups our care! 🐾🧊 It got up to 114°F that day so the ice blocks REALLY helped cool everyone down and the dogs really enjoyed them! 🐾👍🏼 Hopefully our adoptions will pick up so the dogs can get out of the heat and enjoy their best life relaxing on a big comfy couch in the AC, just like they deserve to! We can’t wait for this heat to be done and over with! 🐾🥵🚫

For those who may be wondering, the reason why some of the beds were up is because our staff was making sure the kennel floors were extra clean before we put the ice blocks in. We wanted the dogs to have clean cool water to lay in as the ice melted. We do also have fans (about 20 of them on the ceiling and on the floor) and a $40,000 swamp cooling system blowing 24 hours a day. Because we have so much running all at once everyday, our electric bill is roughly $2,000 a month.

Also, every dog you see in this post is available for adoption and their adoption fee is completely FREE for the entire month of August! 🐾🎉❤️

Cersi originally came into our care in April of 2024 from Brawley Animal Control as a stray. After being in the shelter for over a year she was adopted but was returned two months later. The adopter stated that their other dog did not like Cersi. Cersi has proven to be an amazing dog! She does very well with all other dogs, and she is great with kids! Cersi has been a fan favorite at several adoption events, especially amongst children. Her sweet disposition and happy-go-lucky personality makes her an excellent candidate for anyone looking to add a shelter pup in need to their family during Clear The Shelters!

A few dogs have been adopted since our post regarding euthanasia for space, but more and more are coming in everyday from Animal Control. Omar came into our care from Westmorland Animal Control in mid-January as a stray who was never claimed by his owners. Omar has become a staff favorite over the last several months. He does very well with other dogs, and he is very good with children! We have come to learn that Omar knows basic commands (sit, stay, come), he walks very well on a leash, and he loves car rides! It’s clear that Omar was once the beloved pet of someone who put some time and effort into him. Although he was forgotten about for whatever reason, our team is going to do everything we can to give him the second chance he deserves just in time for Clear The Shelters.
