A rescue Dog's Story:
I was bullied and beaten up by the yards dogs that I lived with, the only thing I had to play with were rocks; my teeth were well worn. Part of my ear was torn off and I was tormented every day.
Garden State German Shepherd Rescue took me into their adoption program. A very nice, gentleman (volunteer) took care of me; he brought me to a well-respected Veterinary practice who provided shots, spayed me and housed me. Every day, this same volunteer visited me, walked me and hugged me during my stay at the kennel. Weeks passed; no home was available for me, so I patiently waited in the kennel.
Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, another human arrived to take me home. The nice gentleman who helped care for me asked me to jump into the back seat of a crew cab truck. No problem as I love rides, I jumped up and was nice and comfy in a big fluffy bed. With my big puppy eyes, I looked back at him hoping he was going to drive me home; instead he loaded up food and some other goodies for me and wished me and my driver good luck. My driver, who I didn’t know was my new mom, took me for a very long ride to an enchanted land full of mountains, lakes and forests.
We arrived home, I barked loudly when the truck door opened, and I saw my new Dad. He hugged me and I fell in love instantly. I am lucky that this nice family heard my plea for a home and adopted me. Now, I live a happy and very comfortable life in a house with heat and air conditioning, cozy beds, tasty food, and lots of toys. No more rocks for me; I even have my own toy chest full up to the top. My dad tops off my meals with home cooked goodies and soon after dinner we go for our nightly forest walks.
As you can see from my photo, I am happy and loved. BTW, hope you all think of me while you are enjoying your summer and hope my story might inspire you to foster so that many more dogs can find their way to loving homes. You all know how many great loving dogs get, I hate to say it, killed due to having no one to temporarily house them.
Thanks to all our GSGSR friends and followers we have saved many dogs. Unfortunately, the number of dogs needing homes is rising dramatically while foster families seem to be disappearing.
Please foster, if the dog is a match for your family you get to adopt, it not then we all move on to find a permeant home for your foster. GSGSR pays for all their foster dogs’ needs they only ask for a temporary home. GSGSR is an all-volunteer organization, so all donations support our dogs. Some dogs don’t need much while others might have medical needs.
Thank you to all the rescue volunteers and those people that help in any way they can. With more fosters we can save more dogs. We, volunteers, mourn when we can’t help a dog due to lack of homes; the number of dogs being surrendered is increasing at a pace that no rescues can keep up. It takes many people and a lot of time just to rehome one dog.
Please share this post as far as you can: Thank you from one very grateful rescue dog. And stay tuned for the next rescue dog story.
