Adoption Requirements/Policies

You are applying for a minimum commitment of 10-15 years when you adopt a pet. Be sure you are willing and able to make the investment in time, finances, and training (average $1,000 annually) to properly care and maintain your new pet!

If you own your own home we will check to verify. If you rent/rent to own we will need the contact information for the property owner in order to verify that you are allowed to have a pet on the property. Please talk to your landlord about adopting as there may be breed and size restrictions that may apply.

If you have been employed for less than a year, you will be required to show proof of income!

We DO allow out of the area adoptions - however everyone living in the home as well as any dogs must come to the shelter to meet with the animal of interest to process your adoption! You will be required to provide us with proof of home ownership if you own your home - a copy of your deed, mortgage statement, or property tax form are all acceptable. We do not take deposits and/or put holds on the animals available for adoption and we do not ship our pets - adoption requires a face to face interview with a member of our staff and your personal interaction with the animal. There are no exceptions to this rule! A 24 hour meet and greet hold can potentially be placed on an animal of interest as long as your application has been pre-approved and there are no other applications pending on that specific animal (this hold only applies to out of area adopters and may exclude puppy adoptions)!!

Everyone including ALL children (if any) present in the home will be required to come in to meet with the animal of interest. Adoptions are based on the best possible fit for the new owner and animal. Adoptions are never done on a "first come/first serve basis". Your application may be approved or denied for any reason as we are trying to find the best fit possible in choosing lifelong homes. All of our animals are spayed/neutered and up to date on their vaccinations. Basic Exams and Veterinary Care is provided for all animals in our care.

A "Meet and Greet" is required if you have other pets in your home (dogs only). All pets in the home must be Spayed/Neutered and up to date on at least their Rabies vaccines in order to be considered to adopt! It is HIGHLY recommended that your dog/s also be up to date on the Bordetella ( Kennel Cough) Vaccine in order to help prevent them from contracting kennel cough as it is an airborne virus that is prominent here at the shelter. Please consult with your Veterinarian and/or call the shelter if you have questions.

We do not refund adoption fees or reimburse for expenses. Any expenses related to owning a pet are solely the responsibility of the new owner beginning when the animal leaves the shelter. This includes, but is not limited to adequate food, shelter, and veterinary care.

Please help us welcome Molly and Ace, These two horses made their way to the ANNA Equine Center through a Police Intervention over the weekend. Both were in need of immediate medical attention and triaged upon intake. Both are underweight; need their feet and teeth addressed; and have some old wounds that need tended too. They were filthy and covered in a bacterial infection over most of their bodies (rain rot). They are weak and tired but they have the biggest hearts and are the sweetest horses. They love all of the attention they are getting including dozing off while getting cleaned and rubbed down. Molly is a Palomino grade type mare and Ace is a Paint gelding. They will stay with us until Dr. Lyon feels they are well enough to be rehomed and then put up for adoption. Please send them all of the love, prayers and good vibes!

Hi! We are three male pet rats, Remy, River, and Roman! We are part of a group of animals that were removed from a home to keep us safe. Well, here we are...and ready to go HOME with you! We are super sweet and very social. We would love to be adopted out together. Our adoption fee is only $30.00 for both of us but you'll need your own enclosure for us. You'll need to show the nice people here what you have at home for us to live in so they know we'll be happy!

Special thanks to our new friends from DaVita Healthcare for helping us through their employee volunteer program! And they even thanked us!!!!

"Hello, just reaching out to say thank you so much for having us. We are grateful for the opportunity to see all of the behind-the-doors work that you all put in daily. The ANNA Shelter is near and dear to my heart. What you guys do for the animals is truly remarkable. I'm sure it is emotionally draining and yet still fills your cup; this was much of the team's feedback. What we contributed in 3 hours doesn't come near to all your team does 365 days a year. So, again on behalf of us all, THANK YOU for having us and for all that you do."
