Our dog team has asked for another share for Kona. We are still looking for a home to send her to. She's on our wait list, which means she will be an Old Dog Haven dog, staying in the home we send her to for life. It also means her forever foster will not have to worry about vet bills!

PERMANENT Old Dog Haven FOSTER HOME NEEDED:
(located in W. Washington state or Portland OR only)

"Kona" is a 58 pound Chocolate Lab mix- perhaps a German shorthaired
pointer?? Because she was a "stray", her true age is unknown, but she is most definitely a senior dog who has just been spayed.

What a pretty girl and what a sweetheart - you can see that her eyes are usually focused on a human. She is energetic, strong, just figuring out how to deal with
other big dogs she sees out on walks, wonderful in the house. It took
her a while to relax in her temporary foster home. No doubt she didn't understand what had happened and whether these people would also abandon her - but as that worry receded, she settled in.

Kona arrived with skin issues (from fleas?) which have mostly resolved now.
She is recovered from her spay surgery and ready to become part of a
home that will keep working on her leash skills so that she can keep
enjoying regular exercise as she increases her confidence.

It is unknown how she will do with other dogs in the house because her shelter foster has no other dogs. However, we have no reason to think it would be a problem. Whether or not she can live with cats is also unknown.

Kona is definitely a lover, a devoted companion who will respond to the effort you make for her. If you are interested, please let us know.

Old Dog Haven would like to bring Kona into our care. To do so, we need to find a home to send her to. Old Dog Haven pays ALL medical bills for life. You will not be adopting Kona, you will be offering her a home to stay in for the rest of her life under our rescue. If you are interested, you can apply to forever foster Kona.
Here is where you can learn more about joining our network of forever fosters.

Rocco is described as a spirited senior with a heart of gold.
This handsome 11-year-old Miniature Schnauzer mix weighs 17 pounds. With his charming personality, playful spirit, and endless enthusiasm for life, Rocco is one senior pup who still has plenty of adventures ahead of him.

Don't let his age fool you. Rocco is an incredibly active, energetic, and fun-loving little guy who absolutely LOVES to play! Whether he's exploring new places, heading out for a walk, investigating exciting sights and smells, or simply bouncing around with excitement, Rocco approaches life with the enthusiasm of a much younger pup. He's curious, adventurous, and always ready to see what fun the day has in store.

Rocco is also quite the social butterfly. He's confident, friendly, and does wonderfully with other dogs. It is unknown how Rocco is with cats and children. Rocco loves meeting people and has a way of winning everyone over with his sweet personality and adorable little face. His playful energy is contagious, and he never misses an opportunity to have a good time.

Of course, even the most adventurous little guys need some downtime. When Rocco is ready to relax, he's more than happy to trade his exploring shoes for a cozy spot on the couch. This affectionate boy loves being a lap dog, snuggling up close to his favorite people, and giving those sweet, love-filled looks that are impossible to resist.

Rocco may only have three little teeth left, but that certainly doesn't stop him from enjoying every bite of his meals! He's a big-time foodie and VERY treat-motivated, making snack time one of his favorite parts of the day.

Rocco truly is the best of both worlds: a playful, adventurous companion with tons of personality and a sweet, cuddly gentleman who loves being close to his people. At 11 years old, he still has so much energy, excitement, and love to share!

If you're looking for a small dog with a BIG personality, an adventurous spirit, and a whole lot of love to give, Rocco might just be your perfect match.

Rocco is posted for the Animal Protection Society of Friday Harbor, located on Friday Harbor, WA. If you're interested in meeting Rocco, please fill out the shelter canine application, and an APS-FH adoption team member will be in touch.

Snuggles is a 13-pound Pomeranian-Chihuahua mix. This darling girl turns 10 in December of this year. She is a young senior who, up until recently, lived a pretty isolated life. Snuggles was a devoted pet of a senior woman until she had to go into a care facility. Extended family has taken Snuggles in. She has opened up and become attached to the man of the home, which tells us Snuggles is able to adapt and learn to trust. Unfortunately, this is not a permanent home, so we are hoping to help Snuggles find the home she needs. We also hope that this next home will be her last and final home!

A home where she is the only animal in the home may suit Snuggles best. She has never lived with other dogs or cats. Snuggles would react "protectively" when she and her former owner came across dogs. It could be that she could be OK with another dog her size and age who would welcome her and not pose a threat. We can't say for sure. A dog who was never properly socialized or introduced to others needs proper introduction. Snuggles has always believed she needed to protect her person from other dogs. She has never had the chance to learn how to exist with another dog. We don't want to set Snuggles up for failure. She needs a committed, compassionate home with people who will help her feel secure. Snuggles has never been around children, and considering she has always lived in an adult family home, we think it best for that to continue.

Snuggles enjoys daily walks and is said to be "great" on leash. She can manage stairs without issue. Snuggles can go quite a few hours between potty breaks. Understandably, staying home alone can cause her to be anxious. However, no one can be home 24/7, and she has learned to adapt to being home alone. It is healthy for a dog to be able to stay home when necessary. Snuggles just needs time to settle into her new home and learn the new routine. Snuggles will bark when people come to the door-typical dog behavior! But we are told she settles down when she is reassured that all is OK.

Snuggles had a dental surgery in June of this year. Aside from that, at this time Snuggles has no medical issues to be addressed. As always, we recommend that regular veterinary care, good quality dog food, and regular grooming be provided by her adopter. With a name like Snuggles, you know that with time and patience, the devotion, loyalty, companionship, and love of this girl will be well worth the effort!

Snuggles is located in Gresham, OR. For contact information please email: [email protected]

Good Sunday Morning and Happy November 1st!

Beau is still at the shelter...waiting...and hoping for a home.
He is a cross post for the Lewis County Animal Shelter/Official site for the shelter in Chehalis, WA .

"Hello! My name is Beau. I am a 9.5-year-old German Shepherd. The shelter scale is broken but the folks say I weigh between 95 and 100 pounds. I was brought to the shelter because my family was breaking up. My younger sister Ezra was brought here too. The nice people here thought they would adopt us out together. I love my sister, but it appears my sister no longer wants anything to do with me!

I get along with other medium-large breed dogs, but I will need a home with NO small dogs, cats, or chickens!! I do have a prey drive and tend to go after small animals. I would be best suited for a home with older kids, as I do not care for my personal space to be invaded for long periods of time.

I know most basic commands and am a pretty well-mannered boy. I was used to having 5 acres to roam on, so I am not super great at walking on leash. I had been living mostly as an outside dog, but I am potty trained. I am ready to leave that lifestyle of being stuck outside FAR behind!

I am very friendly, but I do have boundaries. A home with someone kind and familiar with my breed would be best for me. My sister and I were bred in Europe and brought to the United States as puppies. Maybe there's someone out there who cares about such things? I just want to find a home!

I am already neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped, now ready to find my new loving family!"

Beau is posted for the Lewis County Animal Shelter located in Chehalis, WA. To learn more about Beau and adopting him, please visit the shelter website:

Time to share a senior shelter dog. Let's help Willie, Friends! He is a cross-post for his friends at the Animal Protection Society of Friday Harbor. The shelter is open this weekend from 11 am- 4 pm.

Willie is a Little Dog with a Big Personality! He is a 9-year-old, 20-pound spaniel/beagle mix with a big heart and plenty to say.

Willie is no stranger to the shelter. This wonderful boy was previously adopted from this shelter and spent his days being a beloved companion. Sadly, following the passing of his owner, Willie has found himself back, and now he is searching for a new family to call his own. While this unexpected change has been a difficult adjustment for him, his friends at the shelter know there's a whole lot of love and happiness waiting for Willie in his next chapter. The shelter states he is good with other dogs, but whether he can live with cats or children is unknown.

At 9 years young, Willie is the perfect combination of playful energy and snuggly sweetness. Don't let his age fool you; this little guy still has plenty of pep in his step. He absolutely LOVES playing fetch, staying active, and having fun with his favorite people. But when playtime is over, Willie is just as happy to curl up beside you for some quality cuddle time.

Willie is quite the conversationalist. He takes his Beagle heritage very seriously, especially when it comes to using his voice. Whether he's excited, has something important to share, or just wants to be part of the conversation, Willie isn't shy about speaking his mind. He's a chatty little character who will happily tell you all about his day but also enjoys the quiet moments. If you appreciate a dog with personality and a little extra commentary, Willie is your guy.

After experiencing such a big loss and transition, Willie is hoping to find a patient, understanding home where he can settle in, feel secure, and get back to being his happy, fun-loving self. He deserves a family who will give him the time, kindness, and reassurance he needs as he adjusts to a new routine.

Willie deserves the chance to experience love and a home again. He may need a little extra patience as he navigates this new chapter, but behind that big voice is an incredibly sweet little dog with so much companionship, laughter, and love left to give. Willie is waiting to meet you.

Willie is posted for the Animal Protection Society of Friday Harbor located on Friday Harbor, WA. If you're interested in meeting Willie, please fill out the shelter canine application, and an APS-FH adoption team member will be in touch.

We were not surprised when inquiries started coming in for Yin after her post. We are surprised that she has not been adopted yet! We are hoping this time around, her adopter to be will see her through your shares and give her the home she needs.

Yin is a 10.5-year-old Pomeranian who weighs about 10 pounds. What a darling girl! Yin is described as "a sweet, playful, action-packed, spirited senior". Yin sounds like a really fun dog who plays fetch indoors or outside. She plays with her toys and loves riding along in the car and is a fantastic traveler wherever you are heading. Yin is ready for road trips and does great in her car seat!

If you have a calm, welcoming, senior small dog, that may be a nice friend for Yin. Her current housemate is a small dog who has not been nice to her. This may be why Yin can be nervous when she meets new dogs. However, if she is the only dog in the house, she could be very happy. Yin and the family cat have been best buddies. Our hope would be that Yin could have another kitty friend that would tolerate her grooming them. While she is good around kids aged 7 and older, she would be happiest in a child-free home. Younger children make Yin nervous, which is very common in dogs, especially senior dogs.

Yin is accustomed to going outside via the dog door for potty breaks. At night, she will use a p*e pad if she needs to relieve herself. We would recommend that Yin's adopter get her in for a vet check upon adoption. It has been a year since her last urinalysis and senior blood panel. We recommend that be provided for senior dogs at least once a year. At this time, Yin can manage stairs. We are told she does not appear to have arthritis, but she has shown some decrease in hearing and night vision. Regular veterinary care, grooming, and good quality dog food should be afforded by her adopter.

Yin would not appreciate a home where she is left home alone for long hours. She is a companion dog who loves to be around her person; this is the lifestyle that Yin is accustomed to. Yin will sleep on the floor next to her person's bed. She will bark when she is anxious or when strangers arrive at her home. Yin is a sensitive-natured dog who needs someone who will help her through this move. She should be shown patience, kindness, and reassurance that everything is going to be O.K. Once Yin is secure in her new home, we think she is going to be a true delight!

Yin is located in Richland, WA. For contact information please email: [email protected]
