Meet Gribble! A playful, curious little explorer who’s great with other cats and always up for an adventure!

Gribble enjoys being petted now and then, but he’s usually too busy discovering the next exciting thing to sit still for long. After a good round of play, though, he’ll settle in beside you for a well-earned rest. He’s the kind of kitty who follows you from room to room, eager to see what you’re up to and hoping for a new mystery to investigate, whether it’s an open drawer, a door, or a moving shoelace!

Meet Magma, a sweet and snuggly little 2 1/2 year-old chihuahua mix who’s as loyal as they come! She’s crate trained and will sometimes cry for a few minutes when first put in, but she quickly settles down, curls up, and drifts off to sleep. 🩷

Magma is a total lovebug who wants nothing more than to be close to her favorite person. Like many chihuahuas, she’s picked “her human,” and once she’s bonded, she’ll be your shadow. Whether you’re working from home, cooking dinner, or relaxing in the recliner, Magma will be right there with you, happily snoozing nearby or cuddled up in your lap. She’s happiest when she’s being held and will politely “ask” to be picked up for kisses and snuggles.

She currently lives with two other dogs, an 8-year-old beagle mix and a 10-month-old dachshund/chihuahua mix, and enjoys chasing them around when she gets the zoomies. Occasionally, she’ll pick up a toy or bone, but she’s definitely more of a cuddler than a player.

Magma is good with kids and loves giving gentle kisses. She also has the most adorable little howl that she uses to “talk” to you it’s more of a funny story-time howl than a bark! The first time she saw her reflection, she howled and looked at her foster mom as if to say, “Do you see this other dog looking at me?!”

Meet Tiny, a fuzzy little 5-month-old shepherd mix puppy who may be smaller than her siblings, but don’t let her size fool you, she’s packed with personality.

Tiny is expected to stay closer to medium size. What she lacks in size, she more than makes up for with her s***ky spirit and boundless energy. Tiny is usually the first one to dive into playtime and the first one rushing back out for more adventures. She adores her toys, loves chasing around with her siblings, and happily joins in games with her caretakers. After all the fun, she’s quick to soak up affection. Meet Blu!

He is as sweet as can be and lives for being close to his people. Whether you’re inside relaxing or outside enjoying the day, this 5-month-old Chihuahua/Mix wants to be right there by your side, soaking up every bit of your love and attention.

Blu has a playful spirit and plenty of puppy energy, he loves to go, go, go! Running around, playing, and chasing after his favorite toys are the things that make him happiest. Meet Lois, a smart, curious, and entertaining kitty who knows what she wants, and isn’t afraid to tell you! This vocal girl will happily “chat” with you and let you know exactly how she’s feeling.

Lois loves to be near her people and will greet you with happy leg rubs and adorable belly rolls. While she’s not exactly a lap cat, she enjoys relaxing beside you and being part of the action. She does, however, have her limits when it comes to petting; she can get overstimulated and may give a gentle swat or nip when she’s had enough. For that reason, she’d do best in a home with older children who can respect her boundaries.

Playtime is one of Lois’s favorite things! She goes wild for wand toys, springs, and especially the laser pointer she could chase that little red dot all day. She also enjoys watching “cat TV” or keeping an eye on the neighborhood from her cat tree perch.

Lois has lived with cats before, but in her current foster home, she hasn’t done well with other cats. She might prefer being your one-and-only, though she could potentially live with a very calm, respectful cat after a slow, careful introduction.

Meet Ronald!

This 4-month-old terrier mix has been an absolute star with crate training. He happily goes in on his own, sleeps quietly through the night, and even enjoys retreating to his crate during the day for some downtime. He’s had very few accidents and is quickly learning to let his people know when he needs to go outside.

He lives with children (ages 7 and 9) and has done great interacting with kids of all ages. While he’s the perfect size for little ones, he can be a bit shy when new people or energetic kids rush toward him, a little patience and calm introductions go a long way with this guy.

Ronald is very playful with his senior lab buddy, following him around and joining in for gentle play or outdoor zoomies. He’s got plenty of puppy energy and loves running fast laps around the yard, especially after dinner, before flopping down for a quick rest.

He adores his people and loves to cuddle up close. He’s perfectly happy being picked up and carried, and will likely choose a favorite person to shadow around the house. He enjoys toys of all kinds, crinkly ones, squeaky ones, and small balls to chase outside.

The year was 2006. The state of companion animal welfare across the nation was downright ugly. It was commonplace for 50% of the dogs and cats entering shelters to be losing their lives. Our community was no exception.

Our founder, then 21-year-old, Amanda Reitz knew there had to be another way. With her parents as co-founders, the Reitz's committed to making the welfare of companion animals their life's work. They saw the problem and leaned in. Together they set out on a journey to create positive and lasting change on companion animal welfare in our community and beyond.

HEA Today You've heard the story before about the successful business that got its start in a garage. Our story has that element too. And now HEA provides direct care for nearly 200 dogs and cats through our Green Bay adoption center location, our growing foster network, and our Sanctuary (rehabilitation and lifetime care facility) located on 40-sprawling acres in Marion, WI.
