This sweet little treat was picked up running loose, and sadly, no one came to claim her. Now, Strawberry Shortcake is searching for a forever home—and someone special to share both their heart and dessert with!

Estimated to be around 4 years old, she’s full of charm and personality. Strawberry Shortcake loves her toys and absolutely adores being around people. She's the perfect summertime companion with just the right mix of playful and affectionate.

📚🐾 Back to School Safety Reminder! 🐾📚

It’s officially that time of year — back to school season is here!

As the mornings get busier, we want to remind all pet parents to please leave your dogs at home when heading to the bus stop. While your pup might be friendly, not every child or adult is comfortable around dogs. Some may be fearful, and others may not understand how to properly interact with them — which could lead to someone (or a dog) getting hurt.

🚧 Also, a quick fence check goes a long way!
With the excitement of kids playing and waiting for the bus, dogs may try to escape or push through loose spots in fences. Please take a moment to ensure your fence is secure and your furry friend is safe at home.

Let’s work together to keep everyone — two-legged and four-legged — safe this school year!

🚨 Did You Know? 🚨

When a pet goes missing, many owners wait to see them posted on social media... but did you know:

📌 Shelters are not required to post every stray animal online.
📌 It's the owner's responsibility to call and report their pet missing.
📌 Shelters are often overwhelmed with walk-ins, phone calls, overcrowding, adoptions, and calls for service — all while being understaffed.

💡 So what can YOU do?

✅ Call your local shelters immediately if your pet is lost.
✅ Don’t wait for a Facebook post.
✅ Take action — it could make all the difference.

Jackson was found running loose, and sadly, no one came to claim him. But what we do know is that he’s an absolute sweetheart. Jackson loves being around people, enjoys going for walks, and has been keeping his kennel clean like a true gentleman.

Meet Macey — a sweet girl with a heart full of love and a second chance on her mind. ❤️

Macey was picked up running loose, and sadly, no one came to claim her. She’s estimated to be around 2 years old and has a wonderful, affectionate personality. 🐾

While she already has some good manners, we’re still helping her fine-tune a few things — but she’s eager to learn and even more eager to love.

Please join us in welcoming Ms. Erika Reyes to the Hopewell Animal Services team! Erika has been with us since March 2025 and has quickly proven to be an invaluable part of the shelter.

Her dedication and tireless work ethic shine through every day as she cares for the animals and keeps things running smoothly—despite having to put up with the daily shenanigans of our Animal Control Officers 🤪

Introducing Panda… and those ears!! 🐾🖤

Panda is an amazing girl who gives her whole heart once she knows you. While she may be a little standoffish at first, just give her a couple of meet-and-greets—once she trusts you, her loyalty runs deep. 💯

Panda is deaf, so she needs a little extra guidance and patience as she learns to navigate the world, but she’s incredibly smart and food-motivated, which makes training a fun bonding experience.

She absolutely loves playing ball and is always up for a good game!

🚨 Abandoned and Left Behind 🚨

At approximately 7:00 AM, officers responded to a heartbreaking call and discovered this dog running loose in a driveway. Evidence at the scene indicates the dog had been tied up and pulled free from its collar — a clear act of desperation.

This is not just neglect. This is ANIMAL CRUELTY and ABANDONMENT.

No animal deserves to be discarded like trash.

If you recognize this dog or know who is responsible, please come forward. Give this dog a voice. Help us ensure justice is served — in a court of law and in the name of every voiceless animal.

Introducing Officer Lena Nieto!

Officer Lena Nieto joined the Hopewell Police Department’s Animal Control Unit in April 2024. She brought with her a strong background in animal care, including valuable experience working in a veterinary clinic.
Since becoming part of the City of Hopewell team, Officer Nieto has enjoyed connecting with members of the community—especially our youth—to educate them about the vital role animal control officers play in protecting both animals and the public.
Lena’s favorite part of the job is helping animals escape harmful situations and giving them a voice within our justice system.
We are thankful for Officer Nieto’s dedication, compassion, and continued commitment to serving both our citizens and our furry companions.
