My name is Mike F. and I live in Kansas City. My son Brian was traveling to New York and had an accident in Ohio. He was traveling with his best friend Mocha, who is a 1-year-old, 75 lb Service Dog. When the accident occurred, my son was taken to the hospital and Mocha was taken to the county Animal Control. After 4 days, they put these dogs up for adoption. So now, from Kansas City, I had to find a kennel that could board a rather big dog within the above time frame over the phone.

Training Tips for a Confident, Well-Behaved Dog

It’s essential to begin training your dog right away. Early structure lays the foundation for confidence, trust, and a strong bond—while also helping prevent unwanted behaviors before they start. Your goal is to raise a calm, balanced dog who understands expectations and feels secure with you as their leader.

Here are five key tips:
1. Provide a Healthy Diet
A well-balanced diet is the foundation of your dog’s physical and mental well-being. Good nutrition supports focus, energy, and a stable mood.
2. Use a Long Line for Training
Working on a long line allows your dog freedom while still reinforcing boundaries. It’s a great tool for practicing recall and other foundational commands.
3. Avoid Over-Babying
Carrying your dog around or giving unlimited access to furniture can create confusion about structure and leadership. Privileges like couch time should be earned through calm behavior and training progress.
4. Be Consistent with Your Mark
Whether it’s “Yes,” “Good,” or a clicker—your marker should be precise and meaningful every time. Inconsistent marking can delay learning and hinder confidence building.
5. Practice Daily
Training isn’t just about obedience—it’s about relationship. A few minutes a day goes a long way in creating a responsive, respectful, and happy dog.

This 5-week class focuses on building a strong foundation for obedience and everyday life. We cover:
• Obedience commands- sit, down, stay, come on recall

• Confidence building (great for shy or reactive dogs)
• Behavior challenges like nipping or barking
• Body awareness and adapting to distractions like sudden noises
With a max of 6 dogs per class, you get personalized help and real results. Manners 101 may need repeated, we are training the handler and the dog, it is important to lock-in the basic commands!
