✨ From Shelter Buddies to Sisters for Life 💕

Sometimes the best things in life aren’t planned; they’re simply meant to be.

Jenny and Bob had been searching for a sibling for their dog, Gibson, hoping to find him the perfect playmate. When they met Sunshine (now Gracie), they thought they had found the perfect match.

There was just one catch: Gracie had a best friend she couldn’t leave behind. Her kennel mate, Greta, relied on her for comfort, and the two had become inseparable (you might remember this duo from April’s !).

“We had gone with the intention of only adopting one,” Jenny shared, “but how could we resist this cute pair?”

After a successful meet-and-greet with Gibson, the decision was made: they were all going home together! 🏠

The first weeks brought their challenges. Both girls tested positive for heartworm, which meant weeks of quiet, low-key living while they went through treatments.

Jenny and Bob had imagined Gracie would be Gibson’s new playmate, but it turned out that Greta was the one who loved roughhousing with him - sometimes a little too much - prompting Gibson to occasionally retreat for a breather. Still, Gibson has been a good big brother, patiently sharing his space and toys.

For Jenny and Bob, the best part of this journey hasn’t been a single moment, but rather the joy of watching their bond grow. “We all now sleep in the same bed (king size!), and everyone is getting along.”

Now that Greta and Gracie have completed their heartworm treatment, the girls spend their days exploring parks, strolling the neighborhood with their big brother, and snuggling close at night.

What began as a search for a single playmate ended in something even better: three happy dogs, one big, happy family. Exactly how it was meant to be. 🐶❤️

🚐 New arrivals! 🚐

What’s better than starting the week with 23 new furry friends? 🐶

This Monday morning, we welcomed dogs and puppies from our shelter partner Greater Birmingham Humane Society.

Among them? A litter of six adorable puppies named after deli meats! 🥪 (Because where better for them to find homes than the deli capital of the world?)

Let’s give them the warmest Jersey welcome! 🙌

➡️ You can meet our newest arrivals as soon as today during adoption hours 1:30-6:00pm.

✨ Some adoptions are worth the wait

Sasha came to St. Hubert’s in December 2024 after traveling all the way from Terrebonne Parish Animal Shelter in Louisiana. For more than 200 days, she waited patiently for the right family to come along.

Thanks to her wonderful foster, Sasha had a quiet place to unwind from shelter life and practice her house manners. With a stunning profile photo by the talented Kaylee Greer of Dog Breath Photography , Sasha caught the eye of her love match.

Now, after all that waiting, Sasha is HOME. 🏠❤️

Sasha is just one of 57 pets who found love last week. Summer lovin’ is in full swing! ☀️🙌

⭐ Other notable adoptions include: ⭐

🐾 Vinny and Scientist - pawticipants of this year’s Teen Enrichment program

🐾 Maybelline, Lush and Smashbox - lovely labs we welcomed from our sister shelter Humane Rescue Alliance

🐾 Many of the pups from our shelter partner Paris Animal Welfare Society

Congratulations to all, and welcome to our community! 👏

Our Story

Founded in 1939, St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center operates animal shelters in Madison, North Branch and the Noah's Ark Campus in Ledgewood NJ. We welcome animals directly from guardians, animals rescued by our animal control officers, from overcrowded shelters across New Jersey, from disaster situations, and from distance partners. Our nationally renowned Training and Behavior Center, located at our Madison campus, offers specialized training classes and behavior consultations. Additionally, St. Hubert’s provides a variety of community services including pet adoption, humane education, a pet food pantry, low-cost spay/neuter of community cats and a professional education series. We regularly advocate for animal welfare legislation and work to engage our community to help us protect animals in N.J. and beyond. In addition to our role as a nonprofit organization, St. Hubert’s provides animal control services to a number of municipalities in Somerset and Morris counties. Officers assist domestic animals and wildlife in need, and provide educational information to reduce human-wildlife conflicts. St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center is a registered 501(c) (3) non-profit organization—Federal Tax ID 22-1627726. Our animal welfare and community service programs are supported by contributions, grants and bequests for program continuation and expansion.
