Introducing Minnie!

Minnie and Ava came to our attention when one of our volunteers saw a “free to a good home” ad. After their owner’s passing, Minnie, a nine-year-old Boston/Frenchie mix, and Ava, a seven-year-old Schnauzer, suddenly found themselves homeless. We stepped in right away to ensure they were safe and could get the TLC they needed after experiencing such a big change.

After careful assessment and observing how the girls interacted together, we felt they would thrive best in separate homes. This decision isn’t due to any “bad” behaviour – both are truly wonderful dogs. Their personalities and needs are simply quite different, and giving each of them the right environment will allow them to feel more secure, confident, and truly blossom.

Ava’s now settling into a foster home with another rescue, and Minnie has found her groove with her BT foster brother Clyde. She had to see a vet quickly because of a leaking mammary mass, and she was spayed at the same time. While we wait for the pathology results, Minnie’s recovering comfortably with lots of attention from her foster parents and Clyde – and it’s clear this girl doesn’t mind being the centre of attention. 😉

We are grateful that with the holidays approaching, both girls are safe and cared for – just in time for Santa Paws to pay a visit. ❤️

Minnie is being fostered in Edmonton, AB and is not yet ready for adoption.

Hi Santa!

I’m just checking in because I have a new address this year, and I want to make sure you know I’m with a new family. A little while ago, my old family had a new baby, and I got really stressed, so they decided to bring me to a shelter. I was so scared, Santa. I stopped eating because I couldn’t stop worrying about how long I would be there and if I would ever have a family again.

Then something magical happened – I got rescued! Now I live with my foster mom, and she makes me feel safe and loved every single day. She says I’m perfect, and I believe her. She also says I’m on your nice list, and honestly, that sounds like the best list EVER.

I had a big surgery to take out most of my teeth because they hurt so much. I still have one more surgery coming up, but I’m being super brave because I know my foster mom will be there for me (I also get extra TLC after seeing the dogter, so that’s a bonus too).

Since you’re the best gift-giver, here’s my wish list:
🎁 Endless soft and yummy treats (because crunchy ones are tricky now!)
🎁 A magnifying glass for my neighbourhood investigations. I’m a serious snoop!
🎁Cute sweaters that make people stop and give me extra pets (I LOVE new friends!)
🎁 A megaphone so other dogs can hear me when I talk to them on walks. I can’t seem to understand how anyone could ever ignore me when I walk by…I’m told I’m pretty darn cute, so maybe this will get me some attention from the pups who are playing hard to get?

And Santa, can you do something extra special? Please sprinkle lots of happiness and love on my foster mom when you come to visit. She saved me when I needed it most, and I love her so much. ❤️

Love you lots,
Honey

P.S. I’ll leave you some treats… but they’ll be soft ones…and taste like fish.

Many of BTRC’s dogs started their rescue journey in a shelter. Like Honey, they were scared, confused and in need of critical care. Placing them in a foster home and getting them the vetting they needed gave them hope, health and happiness. Kiwi is home – just in time for the holidays! 🎄

This beautiful girl’s family is over the moon with their new addition. Affectionate, playful and incredibly smart, Kiwi has quickly picked up on routines, mastered her manners and welcomed her sister (also a rescue pup), Ruthie, into her heart.

Her family says, “Her playful side has brought so much joy to our home. Whether she’s playing fetch, doing her enthusiastic little parkour moves off the basement stairs, or gently nudging us for extra snuggles, Kiwi fills our days with warmth and laughter…We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to welcome Kiwi into our home, and we
want to express our heartfelt thanks to Boston Terrier Rescue Canada for
making this match possible.”

It’s clear that Kiwi is adored – something we wish for all dogs. Thank you to her family for their love, commitment and enthusiasm. What a fantastic future Kiwi has in store! ❤️

Dear Santy Paws,

OMD, OMD, OMD. I’m soooooo excited to write this letter to you. My name is Daisy – but you already know that, right? This is my very first Christmas, and my foster brother, BTRC alum Jimmy, says that you’re gonna visit me when I’m sleeping and give me presents. That’s soooo cool!

I’m a super lucky girl because I get to spend Christmas with my foster family. They say I’m going to make it on your nice list because I share my toys most of the time and I’ve been trying not to take socks from the laundry pile (though it’s so tempting!). This winter was my first time seeing snow, and I love it – it must be so nice at the North Pole. Do you think I could come visit you sometime, Santy?

For Christmas, I’d really like to have a nice warm blanket to cuddle in by the fire with Jimmy. We have a few blankets here, but a girl can never have enough blankets! Jimmy and I love squeaky toys, but sometimes my foster family takes them away so we can rest, so I think I could use a couple more. 😉

Jimmy and I have become the best of friends, so please make sure to bring him something for Christmas too – he really loves chewies!

Lots of slobbery kisses,
Daisy

Daisy arrived in BTRC’s care as a very timid pup, unsure of the world. With the love, patience and dedication of her foster family, her fun and playful personality has emerged. She will be going in for her spay surgery next week. Please consider decorating our Holiday Giving Tree – every decoration added helps dogs like Daisy get the essential care they need.

Dear Santa Paws,

It’s me, Cameo!

Did you notice I’ve moved since last Christmas? I’m in a foster home now, where I have a foster sister named Yuki. It’s so fun here because Yuki has so much energy – just like me! She’s my very best friend, and she’s super patient too. My favourite thing to do is nibble her ears. I’m still not sure she likes it, but she’s never gotten mad at me, so I assume she’s cool with it. I just can’t help myself – I find her ear-resistible! 😉

Sadly, Yuki and I ripped my favourite dragon playing tug of war, but then my foster mom bought me a new one (she’s always doing nice stuff like that for me). I’m on my fourth dragon now, and my foster dad says I don’t need another one – what do you think, Santa? Can a girl ever have enough stuffed dragons? Mom agrees with me because she says I look so cute when I sleep with them. I think mom has the right idea – keep ‘em coming!

Will you be making a stop at my house for Christmas? I must admit I’m a little nervous meeting new people, but I really want to meet you. Yuki said if we try really hard to stay awake, we could get a peek at you! I’m working really hard at not barking or growling when new humans come into my home, so maybe I can practice on you, Santa. I know you’re patient, loving and care about me. You know I’m just scared, so you won’t put me on the naughty list for using my voice when I feel stressed. I do improve a little each day, and I’m trying so hard to trust new humans. I decided I like my human auntie! She has a dog too, and I’m hoping we can be friends. ❤️

Do you think you could bring me some confidence for Christmas, so, when I meet new people, I’m not so scared? I’ve been longing my whole life to find a place where I truly belong. Do you think it will be my turn soon, Santa? I really hope so because I think I’ve been a good girl, patiently waiting for my happily-ever-after to come. When it’s time for me to be adopted, could you help me find someone as special as my foster mom? Someone gentle and full of compassion. That would be the best gift ever – and I don’t mind waiting until after Christmas for it. I know it takes time.

Love,
Cameo

PS. Can I ask for one more thing? Can your elves make me another dragon toy? I really want one in every colour. I promise to share it with Yuki, and we’ll try not to tear it apart during tug-of-war (no promises, though).

Not long ago, Cameo’s world felt scary and uncertain. But thanks to BTRC and her incredible foster mom, Cameo grows braver each day. Your support makes this possible. Through our Holiday Giving Tree, you help us give dogs like Cameo the chance to heal and to find hope.

10/12/2025

Hello Santa,

It’s me, Lucy – a two-year-old Boston Terrier-Frenchie mix in foster care. I’m writing this while wearing my Grinch costume and sitting in front of the Crumpit tree. I know I should probably be in a cute holiday outfit, but I picked this one for a very special reason:

Because even Mr. Grinch – the grumpiest Who in all of Whoville – had a dog named Max. And he loved Max with his whole heart. I guess I’m wearing this costume because… deep down…I’m hoping I can be someone’s Max too.

Santa, I think that’s the most important part of the whole story. Max loved the Grinch even when he was grumpy, even when he made mistakes, even when his heart was two sizes too small.

I’m a little wobbly on my paws sometimes – my neurologist is helping me figure things out. (I originally thought “treatment” meant “treats,” which turned out to be a slightly disappointing misunderstanding…) But I try so hard, Santa. I’m brave, I’m silly, I’m cute, and my neurology team says I’m the goodest girl. I hold onto that compliment the way I hold onto my favourite squeaky toy. Oh, I do get treats after, though.

My foster mom says my eyes are as blue as Cindy Lou Who’s when the sunshine hits them. My foster home has three resident pups who are my best friends. One of them, Frodo, is a BTRC alum. Frodo spins in circles because he is special, and this is his forever home. Watching him spin through life – loved exactly for who he is – gives me hope that maybe, just maybe, there’s a family out there who will love me the same way.

So, Santa, here is my Christmas wish list. It’s not long:
✅ One very loud squeaky toy
✅ Chicken and beef liver treats (I like carrots, bananas, and apples too)
✅ And my biggest wish of all… a forever family in 2026

I would like a family who doesn’t mind if I wobble sometimes. A family who sees my Cindy Lou Who eyes and knows they’re full of love. A family who will let me curl up beside them, play fetch with them, and remind them every day how much I matter. A family whose hearts I can help grow three sizes bigger, just by being their dog.

Santa, the Grinch’s story was never really about stealing Christmas. It was about finally finding a place where you belong. So, I’m going to sit under the Crumpit tree and wait for my people to find me and tell me, “Lucy, you’re home.”

I woof you, Santa

When Lucy arrived in BTRC’s care, her mobility was unsteady, and she needed urgent neurological testing. An autoimmune condition affecting her brain and spine was discovered – one that’s treatable with long-term medication. Today, Lucy is stronger, steadier, and shining brighter every week. Your support through our Holiday Giving Tree helps dogs like Lucy receive the lifesaving diagnostics and treatment they need. www.bostonterrierrescuecanada.com/giving-tree-2025

Dear Santa Paws,

Hi, it’s me – Pretzel! 🥨

I’ve been trying really hard to be a good boy this year, and I hope I made it onto your nice list.
I learned how to give my paws for cookies and treats, and I love playing with kids – I think they’re so sweet (just like me!). I even learned to take treats gently from their hands. I’m still working on not jumping too high, and I’m learning that I don’t need to bark quite so much. I do love a good gossip session, though, and when my foster mom comes home from work, I can’t contain all the intel I scoped out during neighbourhood watch while she’s gone.

For Christmas, I’d love a squeaky toy or two, and some yummy treats to chew! My foster mom says no stuffie toys, though. Apparently, that fluff I like to munch on isn’t good for my belly, so mom says to stick to snow.

I want to thank you, Santa. Just a couple of months ago, I was wandering the streets, not knowing if I would ever make it home. But then I was rescued, and now I have the bestest foster parents ever. I can tell they love me sooooooooo much, and I show them I love them too.

One more thing, Santa. I have big news, and I know this will put me on your nice list. I just had surgery on my knee, and even though it’s so darn hard to keep still and not jump or run, I'm trying my best to ‘chill.’ My foster mom and dad are very proud of me – but they’re the main reason I am laying low…because cuddling with them is my favourite thing! ❤️

I can’t wait to see what you bring me, Santa…I promise to share with the little humans who come and visit. 🐾

Love,
Pretzel

Pretzel was an unclaimed stray – a pup whose future was uncertain. Thankfully, we were able to get him into a foster home and provide him with the TLC he needed. His recent surgery on his luxating patella would not have been possible without supporters like you. Please consider donating to our Giving Tree so we can continue to provide the essential (and expensive) surgeries so many of our foster dogs need. www.bostonterrierrescuecanada.com/giving-tree-2025

We may be a few months late announcing the celebration, but some stories are too sweet not to share, and Charlie’s is one of them.

BTRC alum Charlie celebrated his one-year adopt•aversary a while back, and one thing has been crystal clear from the day this boy walked into his foster home – he’s incredibly loved. (That’s probably why he never left!).

From the moment he met his foster parents, Charlie’s life has been filled with warm sunspots, new adventures and all the opportunities a dog could ever hope for. His family adores him, and he offers them so much comfort by just being Charlie.

This year also brought a heartbreaking goodbye as Charlie lost his big brother, Rudy. 🌈 The gentlest of giants, Rudy taught Charlie how to “dog” and he helped transform Charlie from a timid shelter dog to a confident, loving and playful pup. Rudy will always be remembered as such a special part of Charlie’s story. ❤️

Charlie, you’re living a beautiful life, surrounded by people who cherish you. We couldn’t be happier – and we’re sure the same goes for you!
