We had a great class this morning at our private Ranch Property location near TV/Bear Canyon! We often just post cute dog photos from training, but today we wanted to give people a better look at what our training area itself looks like and introduce ourselves again. Hi, we're Chelsea & Quinn, the owners of Sonoran Wildlife Services and have been working in avoidance training for five years, plus nuisance wildlife trapping and exclusion for seven years! We have both been working in the general wildlife field for ten+ years each and have a huge range of experience, so whatever your situation may be, we can probably help! 🦝
This large fenced in court yard is secured and give us ample open space, free of distractions, so we can focus one-on-one for your dogs training. Every dog and client has their own appointment time slot to minimize overlap, we want to ensure the focus is on training while you're here, not saying hi to other dogs. We have 4 different stations set up around the court yard focused on Scent, Sight & Sound of our live intact rattlers (or Sonoran toads). Before we start, the clients get a full run down of what will be happening and what the typical avoidance behaviors look like, while on the course or at home. While an average first time training only takes about 15minutes, it is hands down one of the easiest ways to help prevent failed encounters between your pup and our rattlers/toads. 🐍🐸
We have trained several hundred dogs over the years and can attest that training truly does work and is an effective tool for majority of dogs when done correctly. You work with us directly, if you ever have questions regarding anything animal or training related, you have our personal numbers and we're always happy to chat!

Training typically only takes 10-15minutes and is by far the easiest way to help prevent a failed encounter between your pup and wild rattlesnakes or Sonoran toads. While going about morning work at a clients, I walked by the window and spotted this scene in the driveway! This young diamondback was slowly cruising up the drive, then as I walked out for a photo, a desert spiny lizard briefly walked in front of us both, before scampering off to eat bugs. The small diamondback was calm, no defensive behavior during our encounter; several minutes later I went back to find them basking in the warm sun that had just peaked over the buildings. This is from a snake and wildlife friendly property, so they were allowed to just go about their day undisturbed, hopefully finding one of the rodent nests for a snack. Thank you for the rodent control lil dude, hope to see you around again! 🐍

🐸 First official Sonoran Toad Avoidance Training of the season! Did you know that you can have us come out to your home for private training? Doing it in your own yard has benefits for the dogs, plus it gives us a chance to take a look around the yard and help point out possible critter entrances and what can be done to decrease the chances of future encounters. 🐍 Don't forget to follow our main page Sonoran Wildlife Services for our full content! 📷
🐶 This group of three pups for training today all did great. While initially curious and inquisitive of the live toad, they learned quickly to say no thank you. Each dog has every opportunity and multiple chances to show interest or go after the toad hopping around, but instead they are putting their brakes on, refusing to go closer or giving it the side-eye and ignoring the toad, 'if I don't look at it, it's not there..' style.

Had a great afternoon doing private at-your-home Rattlesnake Avoidance training! There are several reasons why you may choose for us to come to you for training, rather than you coming to our locations. In this case, we coordinated with a few neighbors to provide at-home training for each family in their own backyards.
The shepherd was bitten a few weeks ago by a presumably smaller diamondback, and while she was apprehensive about even our scented fake snake, training was a good call by the owner. Our course focused on scent, sight and sound, paired with our e-collar and live muzzled rattlers, proved a great reinforcement of her cautious behavior. None of these pups are going to try an investigate a rattlesnake anytime soon! While these were all first time training dogs, it is always recommended to do a half priced refresher course each year to keep things fresh in their mind!

Let's get some pups trained & help avoid the trauma that comes from failed encounters! 🐕🚫🐍🐸

Had a wonderful sunny morning at Mountain View Animal Clinic in Vail for rattlesnake avoidance class! 16 dogs through over 3hours, retesting dogs and new first time training from 6mo to 9yrs today! Call 520-909-1420 to schedule or ask questions!
The beautiful white pitty boy is deaf and still did great! He may not be able to hear the snake if it's rattling, but that doesn't mean he can't see and smell it!
We always recommend coming back for a yearly retesting/refresher walk by for dogs who have been through training previously. It is an easy and quick way to bring rattlesnakes or toads back to the forefront of their minds each year.

Had a wonderful class of 14 dogs today at Madera Veterinary Hospital, mostly new trainings but also some refreshers getting ready for another year of avoiding rattlesnake encounters! Every dog gets to go through the course individually; from 6mo to 10yrs old today, all the dogs did a great job! 🐕🚫🐍
Rattlesnakes are one thing, but monsoon season and the waves of Sonoran toads are quickly approaching again! Starting at the end of May we will be offering Toad Avoidance for any location, just let us know when scheduling that it is for toads!
Sonoran toads may not be venomous, but they do secrete poison that is highly toxic to dogs when ingested/licked. You can learn all about how to decrease the chances of having toad encounters, learn what to do if you do encounter them & what action to take if your pup does come into contact with them, schedule for a location or have us come do in-your-home private training!
