Onyx 2022-2025
Rest in peace pretty girl. We will miss you. 💔

Yesterday I had to unfortunately have Onyx euthanized. We found out when we got back from our vacation that Onyx was possibly sick. The next day I took her temperature and called the vet. She was definitely ill. The vet was able to come out right away and treated her for pneumonia, worms and Listeriosis (just in case), but thought it was probably pneumonia. Well that took care of her fever but she continued to decline, not being able to eat anything. By Thursday morning it was apparent that one side of her face was paralyzed. So I loaded her up and took her back to the vet where he told me what I kind of figured but had hoped not to hear- Listeriosis. He said it would be best to euthanize as she hadn’t responded to the treatment already given. She was literally starving to death also. Of course as much as I wanted to have her around for years to come, I didn’t want her to suffer and die a slow painful death. The vet was able to euthanize her quickly and without pain. I stayed with her til she fell asleep, telling her how loved she was and how sorry I was that I couldn’t help her get better. It’s hard not to feel like I failed her. 💔

As for how she got Listeriosis, who knows? The vet said typically it’s from eating spoiled food, moldy hay, even rotten grass in the pasture. But he said he’s seen cases where a goat got it and didn’t have any of those issues. So that remains unknown. But it’s not contagious, and no one else is at risk.

Onyx was born on our farm back in 2022. Her mother is Opal, our queen doe. Her daddy was Winston. We don’t typically keep any of our babies that are born on the farm. Onyx was such a beautiful goat though that we decided to keep her. She has such a sweet face. She was completely bonded with Opal her mother, and would get quite distressed whenever they were separated. Wednesday morning I had moved Opal into the barn to be with Onyx, and I like to think that brought her some comfort on her last day.

Onyx had twins in 2024, and triplets in 2025. She was a fantastic mother! Her babies were all adopted by the same family and are dearly loved. They all live together just down the street. ❤️

Onyx had a beautiful life, but unfortunately it was cut short. We will miss her greatly.

It’s been a hard week here. Farming can be very hard. Being human is hard. We aren’t promised an easy life here on earth. We aren’t promised health and wealth. We are promised hope and a future (for those who put their trust in Jesus)! I know that no matter what happens, things will work out for my good. God promises me that. It may not feel like it’s possible at the time but I know I can trust Him. My hope is in God. ❤️

Happy Monday! My husband and I were able to escape for a nice vacation just before the 4th and returned yesterday evening. It was so nice to get away and relax in the sun! Our daughter, Taylor did a great job looking after everyone on the farm while we were gone. She mentioned last night that Onyx wasn’t acting normal yesterday morning, just looked off. This morning I was able to catch her and bring her into the barn. I took her temperature, 106. She had signs of diarrhea and was foaming from the mouth. So fortunately the vet was able to get out here around 1pm. She has pneumonia and was treated with fever reducer and antibiotics. We have a fan on her to try to help cool her. Poor girl does not feel good at all.
On other news- all the goat babies are leaving today! Gemma’s two have already been picked up. Onyx’s triplets are leaving together in an hour. All the babies are doing terrific and have gotten so big!!
We have tons of eggs but I haven’t had time yet to get them washed. So I’ll be doing that tonight. Eggs will be restocked for tomorrow morning!

Happy Thursday! Life has been so busy here that I haven’t updated on our beautiful baby goats in awhile. They are all growing like weeds! Everyone is still nursing on their mamas but they also love their grain, grazing and are drinking water. ❤️
They will all be going to their new homes in just about 2 weeks. 😢

We do have eggs today but the chickens aren’t laying great right now. The heat is definitely affecting them and I just moved all our young chickens into the coop. I’m sure that will stress everyone out for a little bit as they adjust to each other.

The rain and storms we have gotten recently have helped out the garden immensely. Well that and a little organic fish fertilizer! 😂 We ended up losing one watermelon plant and one green bean plant but everything else is taking off now. 😊

Our cherry trees are doing fabulous this year and we already picked a bowl full off the smallest tree. The larger tree is just starting to ripen so that will probably need to be picked in the next week. It’s loaded with cherries though. We netted them this year with the nets from last year. We barely got the larger tree covered. We will need a larger netting for next year! 🍒

Happy Tuesday! No eggs today! We sold out yesterday and the girls just aren’t laying well in this heat. Who can blame them?!! We probably won’t have eggs til Thursday morning.
This heat has been very hard on our chickens. We’ve lost two hens on Sunday and one yesterday. 😭 Definitely ready for some cooler weather here!

Happy Wednesday! I’m loving the warmer weather this week. I’ve been keeping very busy between coaching group fitness classes 4x a day, trying to keep up with laundry and household chores, let’s not forget making some food for dinners etc, watering all the flowers and plants that are freshly planted, and the daily farm chores! It’s definitely a busy season here. The baby goats are adorable and are loving life. It’s such a joy to visit them and have them climbing all over me, eating my hair! 😂. We still have two babies available if anyone is interested!

We have lots of eggs available on the porch!

Our pullets are loving the chicken tractor and I’ve been opening it up everyday so they can have more space to explore. They love getting out and running around inside the electric fence safety!

Happy Monday everyone! Yay for sunshine finally!! It’s been a busy weekend trying to catch up on all the things outside. I also got our pullets moved out to the chicken tractor yesterday. They will be happier with fresh air and grass after being in the barn their entire lives!!
I did get eggs out onto the porch this morning. Next restock will be Wednesday. 😊

It’s chicken time!! 🎉
I’ll be picking up chicken today from the processor. I have whole organic chicken available for $7 a pound.
I will also have one bag of 10 necks available for $10, and bags of 10 feet available for $10.

Edited- necks are sold.

I can do pick up this evening in Lapeer at the 80/20 gym in downtown from 6:15-6:30pm or at the farm this evening from 7:00-8:00pm.
Chickens will be frozen and wrapped just like in the photo. I won’t really know weights til I pick them up at 3pm.

Let me know if you would like to purchase some fresh organic chicken!

**Our chickens are fed strictly certified organic feed from a family farm in Brown City. This batch of chickens have also been on pasture for their last couple weeks.**

Earlier today I discovered a baby bunny hanging out with the baby goats in their shelter! It’s so tiny and cute! Of course I just left it alone and told the babies not to step on it! 😂❤️

Happy Monday! We are enjoying all the beautiful weather the last few days! Happy belated Mother’s Day to all the moms out there! All my goat mamas are doing good. We have taken deposits on Onyx’s triplets, they will be joining her twins from last year at a home just up the road from us. We are so excited for them!! Gemma’s babies are still available. She has the grey girl and black/white boy. Our old girl Opal, thinks she is the second mama to those two babies and as you can see from this picture, they love her too! The little girl followed Opal into the little dog house this morning and they were in there together for a very long time. ❤️

We have lots of eggs today! Self serve on the porch!
