🚨 PSA from Gunner: professional pill detective and part-time cheese excavator 🕵️‍♂️🧀

As most of you know, our sweet bobblehead, Gunner, is one of our permanent fosters with a very big heart — literally. Due to the damage from a heavy load of heartworms before rescue, he’s on a strict routine of medications 3 times a day. That’s right… THREE. TIMES. A. DAY. 😵‍💫💊💊💊

Now, Gunner is no fool. He can find a pill in cheese faster than you can say “Good boy!” 🧀❌ Ham? Nope. Peanut butter? Meh. But you know what works? Pill pockets. Like, actual miracle meat marshmallows. 🙌

And guess what? IT’S AMAZON PRIME DAY! 🛍️🎉 Pill Pockets are 20% OFF, and they're right on Gunner's wishlist (linked below). Helping out today means we can stretch our dollars further toward his cardiology appointments, meds, and keep him living his best spoiled life. 😎💖

Can’t buy a bag? That’s okay! Sharing this post is free and takes one second (unlike tricking Gunner into taking pills, which takes twenty minutes and five failed attempts). 😅

Help us keep this lovable pill-dodger on track — he may dodge cheese, but he can’t dodge your kindness! 🐶💚

The chaser or the chased?
Do you have a "peace maker"
A dog that rolls others?
Every dog has their own play style...it's just sometimes dogs can struggle a bit to figure it all out.
There is nothing wrong with a small group of dogs playing either...it just needs a bit more supervision.

When that adrenaline starts to rise, things can turn sometimes.
Of course they can figure it out too....

Sometimes though they need your help.

Support Battle for the Bully Just by Grocery Shopping 🛒🐾

As we navigate the final chapter of Battle for the Bully, we are proud to share that all of our adoptable dogs have found loving homes. However, our mission isn’t quite over — we still have two permanent fosters, Chop and Gunner, who will remain in our care due to severe medical conditions. Their ongoing needs are extensive and costly, including specialist visits, regular vet care, daily medications, supplements, and other essential supplies that aren’t always covered by donations.

That’s where we could use your help — in a simple, impactful way.

💡 By enrolling in the Kroger Community Rewards Program and selecting Battle for the Bully as your charity of choice, you can support our rescue every time you shop. It costs you nothing extra — Kroger donates a portion of your purchases directly to us. Whether it’s a full grocery haul or a late-night snack run, your everyday shopping can help us continue caring for Chop and Gunner.

Here’s how to sign up:

Log in to your Kroger account via the Kroger website or app

Go to "My Account"

Click "Community Rewards"

Search Battle for the Bully or enter our code: DH371

Select and enroll!

🍽️ When you fill your cart, you're also helping us fill bowls, cover prescriptions, and provide comfort to two dogs who rely on us. It’s an easy way to give back, and every little bit makes a difference.

Thank you for standing by us — and them — as we close this final chapter with love and dignity.

Note: We will continue to be an operational non-profit until our perm foster boys, Chop and Gunner, cross the bridge.

🐾💊 Sir Gunner, Our “Big Heart” Boy, Has an Update! 💊🐾

Let’s talk about our resident royalty — Sir Gunner, the permanent foster with the literally biggest heart around. ❤️ No, really — his heart is enlarged (medically confirmed), and it comes with an equally large dose of charm, sass, and schedule demands. 😅

Gunner’s not adoptable due to his ongoing medical needs — turns out 7+ pills a day, supplements, food, and cardiology visits don’t exactly scream “low maintenance.” But hey, when we rescue, we commit, and Gunner is committed to being spoiled. 👑

He lives like an only child rock star — private room, personal chef (aka foster mom), and a strict routine. So strict, in fact, that foster mom checks his schedule before making her own. Heaven forbid anything interfere with his med times or — gasp — his snack windows. 🍖🕒

And yes, Gunner also gets chauffeured to heart appointments and routine check-ups like he’s got a VIP pass. Even the dreaded a**l gland expression (which he believes is some sort of betrayal) ends in treats, because... obviously. 🍪

His foster family does all the heavy lifting — medications, appointments, royal belly rubs — and we try to support them by covering his basics: food, supplements, and those glorious treats.

👉 If you’d like to help Sir Gunner continue living his majestic life, we’ve included a link below for items or gift cards. Even $5 or $10 helps — it adds up and keeps his belly full and heart stable. 💝

From the bottom of Gunner’s very big heart (literally and figuratively), thank you for continuing to support him and our other permanent foster, Chop. We made a promise to these boys — and we’re keeping it, royal expectations and all. 👑🐶

🚨💦 Chop Update: Life with Leaky Pipes! 💦🚨

Whew, it's been a wild ride on the Chop-a-Coaster, but we’re hanging on tight — leaks, surprises, and all! 😅 Yesterday, our sweet boy had a bit of a rough patch. He was only dribbling when trying to p*e and had the sad "pain shakes" — enough to worry his foster mom (aka personal nurse, chef, and full-time clean-up crew).

And just when we thought we’d seen it all... During his usual morning clean-up, the moment the cold wipe touched his belly — BAM 💥 — a stream of p*e shot out like a tiny firehose. Straight on the hand. (10/10 aim, honestly.) What came out felt like pure sand 🏖️ — those pesky bladder crystals are still giving us a run for our money!

The good news? He's still eating like a champ 🍽️ and letting us know when he’s not feeling great in his own sweet way. We’ve upped his pain meds 💊 to help him get through the crystal-clearing phase, and he’s now on prescription food to keep those bladder gremlins away. Because of this, we’ve removed his regular food from his wish list. (Sorry, Chop — no snack swaps allowed now! 😬)

Since his new food has him absorbing everything differently, his potty “schedule” — if you could call it that — is totally out of whack. But no worries! We’ve gone full HGTV on the floors with a luxury potty pad layout. 🏡🧻 We’ll get the timing down eventually... or at least figure out a leak-to-laugh ratio we can live with.

As a reminder, Chop is one of our permanent fosters due to his major medical needs (orthopedic + neurological). He might wobble, wiggle, and leave a trail of mystery puddles behind him, but this boy is living his best life surrounded by love ❤️ and determination.

Please keep our little leaky legend in your thoughts. We’re committed to making sure every day is a good one — no matter what pops, squirts, or leaks out along the way! 🐾💕

💔 An Unthinkable Blow During Our Hardest Chapter 💔

As if closing the doors of Battle for the Bully wasn’t already emotionally devastating enough… we are now facing something even more heartbreaking — someone has created fake Venmo accounts using our rescue’s name and photos of one of our past rescue dogs to scam donations meant for our perm fosters.

We are gutted. Truly.

We have been completely transparent in our commitment to our two permanent fosters, Chop and Gunner, who suffer from serious medical conditions that render them unadoptable. We made them a promise — that they will be cared for, loved, and supported for the rest of their lives. But how can we keep that promise when cruel individuals are trying to siphon off the very donations that keep them alive?

These dogs have already been robbed of a healthy life at the hands of humans. And now, once again, humans are trying to take from them — this time, their chance at comfort and care in their final chapter.

It’s sickening. It's shameful. And it’s a heavy hit to a rescue that’s already grieving.

💔 This is the world we’re living in now — one where we not only fight to save lives but also fight to protect their lifeline from scammers. Isn’t rescue hard enough?

We’re incredibly thankful to those who alerted us, and to every single supporter who stands with us. Below, we have posted the correct and fraudulent Venmo screenshots. Please double-check before donating and always confirm you're using the official donation methods.

From the bottom of our hearts — thank you for continuing to fight for Chop, Gunner, and the soul of what Battle for the Bully was always meant to be. ❤️

💔 A Heartbreaking Update on Chop 💔

Our sweet Chop has had a really rough couple of days… and it’s breaking our hearts.

His foster mom noticed he was trying to urinate, but only a single drop would come out. At first, she thought maybe he had already relieved himself unknowingly—after all, Chop is incontinent due to his neurological condition. But the next morning, the same painful scene played out: Chop tried again… and again… and nothing.

We called his vet immediately. Without hesitation, they told us to bring him in right away. X-rays showed no obvious blockage—just an extremely enlarged bladder. But further urine testing revealed what we feared: a high volume of crystals, the kind that can bond into stones and cause serious pain.

Then came the most heartbreaking part.

Dr. M gently tried to pass a catheter, and that’s when they discovered it—a pea-sized stone lodged at the tip of his urethra. A painful little intruder that was stopping him from doing something so basic. He had been suffering quietly. Despite everything, Chop never stopped giving kisses, even through the pain. That’s just who he is. 💔

The vet was able to carefully remove the stone with a small laser cut and flush his bladder. Chop is now recovering with antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and prescription food to help prevent this from happening again.

As many of you know, Battle for the Bully is no longer taking in new dogs, and Chop is one of our two permanent fosters due to his complex medical needs. He’s not adoptable, but he’s family—and we promised him a life of comfort, dignity, and love.

Now we need you to help us keep that promise. 🙏

His foster mom does the hard work every single day—managing his medications, cleaning up after him, driving him to appointments, giving him love and reassurance when his body doesn’t cooperate. But we can't do this without your support to cover his mounting medical expenses.

Chop didn’t ask for this life. But we can make it better.

Please, if you can, help us take care of this boy who has given so much love, even while in pain. He deserves to be cared for with the same unconditional love he gives so freely.

🐾❤️ Although Battle for the Bully is no longer accepting new intakes, we made a promise—and we’re keeping it. We will continue to share updates on our two beloved permanent medical fosters who will spend the rest of their days surrounded by love, care, and comfort with their amazing foster families.

✨ Meet Chop—our orthopedic and neurological sweetheart. He may have a wobbly walk, a few leaks, and be slowing down a bit, but his big personality still shines bright. While he doesn’t play as much as he used to, he still loves to play when the mood strikes. And his favorite way to end the day? A peaceful nap on the deck sofa, ears in the breeze just before a storm rolls in. 🌬️⛈️

You can see time gently touching his beautiful face, and when those soulful eyes lock with yours, it’s impossible not to lean in and plant a kiss right on his forehead. 😘💞

Yes, Chop still has accidents in the house—and yes, he drops his ears in embarrassment—but we always say the same thing: “It’s okay, buddy.” Because it is okay. He can’t help it, and we would never want him to feel shame over something he can’t control.

All we want is for Chop to feel peace, dignity, and love every single day. And that’s exactly what we promised him the day he joined our rescue family. 🐶💖🌈

One thing is for sure!
When you start to see these signals, it opens your eyes.
Fully.
So how do dogs show they just aren't interested or need a break from interacting with another dog?
This shows some fairly common ways.
If we ignore these "no thanks" signals, it can cause issues for some.

I've said it before....no one likes a pest, and dogs are no different.

That dog that just won't give up?
Even when your dog may be desperately signaling their little heart out.
We have to intervene.

Are we "interfering" with their natural communication?
Yes we are, because that communication given is not being received.
If ever there was a time to advocate and intervene.....that is the time.

Over arousal/over stimulation is a very big cause of dogs not receiving clear communication well.

So we have to step in when the other dog "just doesn't get it".

🐾 Update on the Closing of Battle for the Bully 🐾

We want to keep our amazing supporters informed as we move through the process of closing Battle for the Bully. While this is a difficult transition 💔, transparency remains our priority.

We’re happy to share that all of our adoptable dogs have found loving homes 🏡❤️—with the exception of our two permanent fosters, Chop and Gunner. Due to significant medical issues, they are not adoptable 💊🐶. You can find more information about their conditions in our pinned post 📌.

As previously shared, our tax ID will remain active 🧾 to ensure that any donations made for Chop and Gunner’s care remain tax-deductible.
Because once a BFTB dog, always a BFTB dog 🐕💙—we made a promise, and we intend to keep it.

📄 Our annual tax filings will continue to be available for review at Guidestar.org until the nonprofit is fully closed.
This final closure will happen when Chop and Gunner cross the rainbow bridge 🌈—and we are in no hurry. We want them to enjoy their senior years in comfort, care, and love 💞🐾.

🗓️ Please note the following:

🌐 Our website will go offline in September

📫 Our P.O. Box will also close in September

✅ A Change of Address has been processed, and all mail will be forwarded for the next 12 months

🎁 Chop and Gunner have a wish list for items like food and supplements. If you'd like to contribute, links are included below.
This helps preserve rescue funds for their medical care, especially as fundraising becomes harder without new intakes.

We know not everyone chooses to continue care for non-adoptable dogs with complex medical needs—but for us, euthanasia is not an option 🚫🌈.
We made a commitment to these boys, and we’ll stand by them 🐾💪.

📱 We’ll continue sharing updates on Chop and Gunner through our page, which will remain active.
All other social media accounts have been closed.

💖 Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your ongoing support through this emotional chapter.
Your compassion has meant the world to us—and to every dog whose life you've touched 🐶🌟.

What if we caught it earlier?
The bark isn't the best indicator for reactive dogs.
It is just the loudest.
We have to get out of the habit of only acting when we hear it.

There are plenty of other ways dogs can show they are heading up and over into that "emotionally driven" state that we all know is a reaction.

What if we could stop that bark from occurring?
This graphic is all about those little tell tale whispers and they often occur before the bark.

If you have a reactive dog there is certainly information everywhere and often it contradicts itself....because above ALL else, reactivity is nuanced.

Your dog won't have the same "whispers" something is about to occur as other dogs.
Sure some are similar to others....but you know your dog best.

One of the best tips I have is watch an old video, (but please don't set your dog up to have a reaction).
If you have managed to catch one on video, slow it down.
Watch what happened just before.

Did they pause or hesitate slightly ?
Did their head dip or neck stretch out ?
Did their chest puff forward a little ?

All of this is information you can use and it's so incredibly helpful for both of you.

It will help build your confidence too.

Save this and share it to whoever may need it.

Don't wait for the bark....look at all the other signs before.

All the best with your reactive dog.
You can do it !
