Our sweet Vinny ❤️

At just 9 months old, Vinny is already around 80 pounds, incredibly tall, and still growing! 🐕 We expect him to top 100+ pounds when fully grown, with a stature closer to a Great Dane than your average dog.

While Vinny may look like a doodle, he is NOT one. He is a unique mix of Olde English Sheepdog and Black Russian Terrier - two working breeds, with strong guardian instincts inherited from his Black Russian Terrier side 🖤

Vinny is looking for a very specific home with an experienced owner who understands guardian breeds and is committed to continuing his training and socialization. He has shown some protective tendencies in the home, which is typical of his breed mix, and will need a confident handler who can guide him through adolescence and help him continue developing into a well-rounded adult dog.

The good news? Vinny is an absolute sweetheart with the people he knows and loves. We genuinely LOVE him ❤️

Because of his guardian breed traits, Vinny is looking for a home without children and one that doesn’t have a constant flow of visitors. His future owner should understand that management, training and structure are important parts of owning a guardian breed and that he may need to be crated when guests visit.

🚨 URGENT FOSTER HOME NEEDED 🚨

⚠️ By Wednesday!

Chance is an 8-year-old Husky/Malamute mix and a wonderful family dog. ❤️

He currently lives with another dog, regularly visits the dog park and has been raised around children. Everyone who knows him describes him as friendly, loving and easy to live with.

The heartbreaking reality is that Chance’s fur is causing allergic reactions for the family’s baby. They have done everything they can to make it work and have held off as long as possible. We’ve also had Chance listed for adoption, but he hasn’t received any applications.

💔 If we cannot find a foster home, Chance will be surrendered to a shelter on Thursday.

“Chance is a calm, medium-energy dog who enjoys the simple things in life like lounging around the house, watching TV with his people and spending time in the backyard. One of his most special qualities is how intuitive he is ❤️ He seems to sense when someone needs comfort and is happiest just being by your side. Sometimes rescue writes stories that are better than anything we could make up. ❤️🐾

Back on April 1st, our volunteer Angelica sent us a message about a handsome black shelter dog she had seen and said, “I need that dog.”

That dog was Jet.

Of course, we said yes.

Jet spent a few weeks in foster care before finding an incredible forever family who absolutely fell in love with him.

Then, while Jet was settling into his new life, another black dog arrived at the shelter.

The shelter sent Angelica a picture and said, “This dog kind of looks like Jet.”

Without hesitation, she said yes again.

That dog was River.

What nobody knew at the time was that Jet and River shared a much bigger connection.

The two dogs didn’t arrive at the shelter together. They came in at different times and took completely different paths. Yet somehow, both of them found their way into the same foster home.

From the beginning, Angelica kept saying, “I think these two dogs are related.”
Last Friday, DNA results confirmed it.

Jet and River are brothers.

Brothers who were once homeless.

Brothers who entered the shelter system separately.

Brothers who found their way to the same foster home.

And now, brothers who are each living amazing lives with families who adore them.

Stories like this remind us why we do what we do. Not every rescue journey comes full circle, but every once in a while, we get a reminder that some dogs were simply meant to find their way home.

🐾 Meet Johnny A-Aron! 🐾

Johnny is a 5-6 month old puppy with a heart much bigger than his paws.

While most puppies his age were busy learning about toys, couches, and how to charm their humans into giving extra treats, Johnny spent the last two months of his young life waiting in a rural shelter. But you would never know it from his attitude.

This sweet boy wakes up every day ready to love, play, and enjoy every little thing life has to offer. ❤️

Johnny is still discovering what it means to be a puppy. Every toy is exciting. Every adventure is new. Every belly rub is the best thing that’s ever happened to him.

One thing we’ve learned about Johnny is that he takes neighborhood wildlife very seriously. 🤣 He loves watching the critters outside, points at them like a little hunting dog, and would happily volunteer to chase every wild rabbit in Myakka if we let him. We have a feeling there might be a little hunting dog somewhere in his family tree! 🐇🐕

Johnny is also a certified Velcro dog. Wherever his people are, that’s exactly where he wants to be. Whether it’s riding in the car, hanging out on the couch, or following you from room to room, this boy loves being part of the action and close to the people he loves.

He’s learning fast, eager to please, and has that perfect mix of goofy puppy energy and sweet snuggly affection.

Now all Johnny needs is a family to show him that his shelter days are behind him forever.

🚨 FOSTER NEEDED ASAP 🚨

Chance is a 9-year-old Chihuahua who needs out of his current situation as soon as possible.

We’ve already taken four dogs from this home and have been asked to help the remaining three. The other two have fosters lined up, but Chance doesn’t have anywhere to go. We are hoping to get all 3 tomorrow.

💕 Meet Maddie! 💕

This girl is the sweeeeeeetest and is ready to find a family of her very own 💓

Maddie was found as a stray and ended up at the county shelter in horrible condition. Matted, ear infections, a ruptured ear drum, every bone showing and just 26lbs. A wonderful vet tech from the shelter fostered her and got her back to great health before sending her to us 💕 Despite a difficult start in life, she hasn’t let her past dim her spirit. She’s happy, loving and always ready for fun.

At just 3 years old, Maddie is house-trained, crate-trained and trustworthy when left loose in the home. That said, she’d much rather be curled up in bed with you if she’s given the chance 🥰 She’s incredibly smart, loves playing fetch and never turns down an opportunity to splash around in the water. She loves kiddie pools and would probably love a real pool or the beach too 🏝️

Our favorite thing 👉🏼 Maddie shows her excitement by spinning in circles when you come home or when she knows it’s mealtime 😂 (a very poodle thing to do!)

Maddie adores other dogs and would thrive in a home with a canine companion. She and her foster brother spend their days playing together nonstop. She’s also great at doggy daycare.

Flash’s Story ❤️‍🩹🥹

Some dogs just can’t catch a break and Flash is one of them.

After her owner entered hospice, Flash (and 9 other dogs) ended up at the county shelter, where she waited for 6 months with no one coming for her 😔

Then things got even worse 💔

Flash was placed in a foster home through the shelter and was lost not once, but TWICE. The first time, she spent a week running scared and alone before finally trusting our volunteer Heather and her dog Blair enough to come close and be safely trapped.

Sadly, Flash was returned to the foster home after the first escape, only to be lost again just days later. The story never quite added up and the foster made no effort to help find her either time 😔 Something was fishy, but Flash needed help again. If Flash had only been relying on the people responsible for her, she may never have made it home. Thankfully, she had us on her side 🙏🏼

For five more days, Heather, Blair, and a dedicated team of volunteers searched tirelessly. Flash would come running to Blair whenever she saw her, but she was too frightened to let anyone catch her. Blair was key in luring her though.

Then came the call none of us wanted.

Flash had been attacked. She was found injured, bleeding and terrified 💔 but was still running for her life.

A dedicated group of volunteers stayed out nearly all night trying to bring her to safety and at 7:30am the next morning, she was finally caught 🙌🏼 (thanks to Blair again!) She was sleeping on the side of a pond and could barely walk, she was in so much pain.

Flash went straight to the vet for wound care, antibiotics and pain medication. Once she was safe, Love4Paws immediately welcomed her into our rescue, ensuring she would never have to return to the situation that had failed her twice ❤️‍🩹

And here’s the thing we’ve learned about Flash: she’s not a dog trying to run away 🥹

She’s a happy, tail-wagging sweetheart who LOVES people and other dogs. She’s in a foster home with mama Fifi and a bunch of dogs and is awesome with every dog she’s met. She even spent a day at doggy daycare with dogs of all sizes 🐕

Flash has been failed more times than we can count, but she’s never stopped being kind ❤️

Now she’s safe. She’s healing. And very soon, she’ll be ready to find the forever home she’s been waiting for all along ❤️

💓 Meet Chloe 💓

Chloe is a 2-year-old Standard Poodle weighing 39 lbs. She’s currently underweight and should be closer to 45 lbs, but she’s already well on her way to looking and feeling her best. With her tight curls and docked tail, she certainly looks the part! 💕

When Chloe’s owner passed away, she suddenly found herself at the county shelter with no family able to take her in. Having spent her entire life in a home, the shelter was a scary place for her 💔 Thankfully, she made it into foster care, where she’s settled in beautifully and shown us what a sweet girl she truly is.

💜 Chloe’s Highlights:
• Potty trained & house trained
• Loves treats and is very food motivated
• Enjoys zooming around the yard and is FAST!
• Friendly and affectionate with people
• Good with other dogs, though she appreciates a slow introduction
• Does great left loose in the house
• Comes when called and loves being outside with her people

A few things to know:
• Not a fan of the crate
• Needs regular brushing and professional grooming
• Cats are unknown
• Flight risk - she can be quick at doors and during car loading/unloading, so extra caution is required
• Athletic and can jump surprisingly high (the back of the couch is no obstacle for her!)

We believe Chloe likely lived as an only dog and would be perfectly happy in a home where she can soak up all the attention 🩷However, she could also thrive with the right canine companion who will give her time to adjust.

Chloe is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated and heartworm negative. All she needs now is a family of her own 💓

Rowan is a smart, happy pup who is doing great with training. He’s crate trained, sleeps loose in the bedroom overnight without accidents and is working hard on potty training. He even rings jingle bells when he needs to go outside! 🐕

He has a playful, social personality and absolutely loves water - especially drinking it 😂. Like most puppies, he can be a little mouthy at times, but he’s extremely treat motivated and eager to learn, making training a breeze.

As a Goldendoodle, Rowan will need regular grooming throughout his life and luckily he’s wonderful for brushing, grooming appointments and even ear cleaning. 🛁

And one of our favorite things about Rowan? So far, he hasn’t chewed anything he shouldn’t! 🙌
