AI generated art is ugly af and I have yet to see a single piece of art that has come remotely close to changing my mind

I’ve spent the last 6 years doing my best to support the artist community however I can, with my small business

When patrons walk into Mutts, the first thing they do is compliment the art. It’s a conglomerate of work from artists both local and far.

And when it comes to the bond between our pets and us, an artificially created algorithm isn’t going to capture the love and companionship that a real human behind a paintbrush or pencil can

I’ve seen so many small businesses openly using AI so this is my bid to you as a business owner to please let the art community into your space and leave a one of a kind footprint on it. Your patrons will notice the difference, and for the better, I promise.

It’s that time of year and our partner Fences For Fido is having their annual fundraiser gala this weekend

Every year, we donate coffee bags for a coffee basket and this year we donated some items from our merch shelf. Good thing I pulled them before I went on leave because our merch shelf is looking pretty empty. Those cake mixes, pins, and stickers were especially a hit and I’ll have to order some more soon

In the meantime, you can bid on these items if you are attending the event. Last year, our coffee basket went FAST! We are always so humbled. It’s a 12 bag basket! Don’t delay writing your name in.

We also donated some bags to our friends Angels with Misplaced Wings so if you live in Washington and can’t make it to us and want to support a great cause, tomorrow is the last day of their garage sale and you can buy coffee bags at the sale

Two of our favorite partners, both having their events in the same weekend, both worth causes!

Yesterday, we hosted Three Little Pitties Rescue and Clyde (puppy), Goose (white dog) and Etsy (freckled) dog were all in attendance

Clyde got a lot of attention, he is a ham! His fosters are hard at work introducing training and working on early cues like “sit” and “wait”

Goose wanted to meet just about every big dog that went by! Clyde was obsessed with him. His foster says he is a total sweetheart.

Etsy is so sweet and she has a meet and greet today from an event last weekend. We’d be shocked if that sweet girl wasn’t adopted

If you are interested in Clyde, Goose, Etsy or any of the other adoptable dogs or cats available through this organization, simply click the link in our bio. You can also reach out to them directly if you’d like to inquire on becoming a volunteer, foster, or donor

Thank you to all who stopped by. We also made a $300 donation to this organization (a portion of our daily sales).

“They mean eveything to me” a client explained as his dog leaned out the truck, first sniffed the bag of food, and then proceeded to lick my face for a full 30 seconds.

He had come by Mutts because that’s where someone had told him to go for help. I explained the process for fulfillment but quickly learned of his circumstances.

It is easy to take a smart phone for granted if you have one or have the ability to pay for service.

He left with full bags of food for his two dogs and cat and as I walked away, he said, “I’ll never be able to repay you.”

Owners are criticized and scrutinized all the time for giving up their pets. The truth is that in many cases, it’s not a first option, it’s a last option, after all others have been exhausted. Most pet owners do fight for their pets before hard decisions have to be made. Resources like pet pantries can help reduce that fight, lifting the burden of guilt by securing an immediate basic need.

We see the side of pet owners trying their best and making the best of their own unique situations.

Pokey’s Pet Pantry turns 1 this year.

It didn’t always have a name or a structure but what started as some bins by our door, a year ago, has now grown into a full time pet pantry serving Washington County pet owners in need.

Thank you for supporting us along the way. It wouldn’t be possible if it weren’t for the many of you who see the need and the value for pet pantries and continue to support this one.

Tomorrow, we will need to close. If you missed our post from a few days ago, basically I’m coming back after surgery but I’m on light duties and I need to take it slow. One of my employees is also on leave. We are doing our best so we appreciate some grace, our health comes first.

I am experiencing some unexpected post-op bruising and swelling that I need to keep iced every few hours, not easy to do when I’m working on the floor. So I will be taking tomorrow off to do that but that unfortunately means we will be closed. We plan to be open on Thursday and Friday but closing at 2. Normal hours this weekend.

Please check our Google listing before heading to the store, I always keep our hours updated there. That way you don’t burn time or money and discover we aren’t open.

Hi everyone, just a heads up that next week we will be closing an hour early, every day.

I’ll be coming back from leave and we have another staff member on leave.

This week, I transition into full walking again but I have to go slow, listen to my body, and do something I’m not always good at- take breaks.

The last few years, we built a coffeeshop from scratch on a quiet, unassuming street in a downtown neighborhood. Every sale and every customer interaction, we had to work twice as hard if we were to be successful.

I kept our labor budget low by overextending myself into working long shifts on hard floors without adequate breaks, like so many restaurant owners do, and by doing so, I felt like I was always borrowing from my future, physical self until one day, it all caught up and I had over injured an area of my foot that has not healed correctly, in the last two years.

This has brought excruciating pain for some time, to the point where I’ve had to pull over from driving and rest my foot or give myself a pep talk before doing something very normal and simple like walking though a grocery store.

Because coffee is as much of a customer service job as it is a quality one, I’ve had to smile through the pain on days where I cried at closing because the pain was so immense.

So this time around, post surgery, I can’t be self-sacrificing. I love my company and it has cost me blood sweat and tears in a literal sense, but two weeks ago it cost me a physical part of my body due to years of overcompensation and overextension.

If there are days we close without notice or days we close early, I hope you’ll understand. I have to ensure healthy healing this time around or I will be right back where I started needing the same surgery again which puts me out longer than a day or a few hours.

I appreciate your understanding

Beaverton, an (alleged) unprovoked attack happened on an unsuspecting construction worker who was just going about his work shift. The suspect is believed to be the same man who was (allegedly) saying racially motivated statements like “immigrants get out of this country, it’s for whites only,” moments before.

This happened on the backs of not one, not two, but three men being racially profiled and killed in our country, in less than a week.

Neighbors, we have a real opportunity here to make sure hate does not hold a safe place in our own community. The construction worker deserves justice.

Who is this man? Did your camera catch anything? If you feel you might have evidence that may help solve this crime, pelase hand it over to the Beaverton Police Department

Case # 26-1911055
Non-emergency #: 503–629-0111

This is time sensitive

The map shows what we know so far based on neighbor and witness testimony

I’m very sad for our little downtown neighborhood right now- two hateful individuals in a very small timeframe causing so much harm. I do hope the Beaverton Police will handle this case quickly and am frustrated that they did not ask for our camera footage, it wasn’t until a neighbor informed us of what happened and submitted the footage that a police officer came by only to authenticate the footage. Without the kind neighbor taking the initiative, the recordings could have been lost had our settings been set to delete them

I will update this post if I learn that there has been progress made in this case
