Got the first ride put on my new two year old! Seems like she might be one of the easiest I’ve ever started. I’m really looking forward to watching her grow up and progress!

I want to extend a huge thank you to the whole crew at ! This past weekend was filled with ranch rodeo fun, meeting new friends, and Spike found his new home! I’m sad to see him go, as he was a really fun horse, dependable to have around, and taught me a lot over the past year. But I look forward to seeing what he can accomplish in the roping pen at his new home!
This is a video we got of him early in the summer. I forgot about it and didn’t get it put in his sale video. I think it still deserves to be shared

Consigned to Colorado Horse Sale in Montrose, CO, October 11th.

“Freckles Peptoboy” is a 2011 AQHA gelding standing 15.1 hands and weighing approximately 1,150 lbs. I have used “Spike” for all aspects of ranching, including gathering, sorting, roping, doctoring yearlings, ponying and flagging c**ts, and checking fences and irrigation. He has also been hauled to a variety of smaller team ropings, barrel races, all-around challenges, and ranch rodeos. Spike really is a horse who has all the athleticism, power, and brains to do just about anything you point him towards. As an amateur roper, he really took care of me at my first team roping jackpots and ranch rodeos this year. He can have a big motor, so I think he would do best with an intermediate rider and up. All black feet, wears a size 0 all around.

Freckles Peptoboy
2011 sorrel AQHA Gelding

“Spike” is a big, solid ranch/rope horse. We’ve used him to doctor yearlings on our ranch this summer. He’s done wonders for my roping confidence. He carried me through my first team roping jackpots last winter and ranch rodeos this summer. He knows his job as a head horse, but I don’t do him justice. Cowy, pretty impressive on a cutting flag for his size. You can carry a tarp on him, ride him ba****ck in a halter. No buck. Can have a big motor, so needs at least an intermediate rider. Acts like he knows the barrel pattern. I’ve ponied/flagged c**ts on him. He’s a cool, fun dude! Come try him!
He does have a big scar on his right hip. Had it for years, never bothered him. Also has a crack in his right front hoof that does NOT go through his coronet band. With the right farrier and some patience, it can be grown out. I had a farrier last winter that made good progress, but lost that progress since I came home for the summer. He’s sound on it. I have x-rays of that leg/foot from last summer.

Here’s my advice today from one horse trainer to another:
Ride your own dang c**t! I know customer horses take priority. But whether you just have to find time or you have to make time, ride your own c**t. Getting them going might be the refreshment your heart and soul need!
May or may not be speaking from experience here 🤷‍♀️😏

I think we all need reminders to count our blessings. This mare has made me do that many times so far this year! It’s been my dream for at least the last 5 years to make Performance AND Ranch horses… Both, not either/or.
I want to make horses that are capable of performing in town (whether that’s team roping, laying down a pretty reining run, or holding their own at a ranch sorting or cutting) AND turn around and be able to drag calves to a fire, gather cattle in rough country, or sort pairs out in the sagebrush.
Spicy here is the first horse I’ve really seen that dream come to life with! I have been so proud of her this year, from hooking onto the Heelomatic and getting a taste of cutting in Texas, to now looking like a seasoned branding horse even though she’s only seen a few branding pens.
I’m super thankful the Lord has entrusted me with this horse and grateful for the opportunities to learn with and from her. It’s keeping me hungry to learn and grow and see what lies ahead in these incredible animals I get to work with!
