a tough day for our sanctuary as we say goodbye to one of our first ever rescue reptiles 🦎❤️‍🩹🕊️

Pickle Rick came to us in December of 2020 — missing toes, eating a poor diet, surrounded by plastic and living under a red light. as our first day gecko, we learned so much from him and formed a bond unlike any other in our care 🥹

giant madagascar day geckos are known for being shy and aggressive, but Pickle quickly grew to trust us. he recognized our voices, made the most intense eye contact, and never missed a chance to attempt a sneaky escape 😅 yet even in our moments of forced handling, there was always this quiet sense of understanding between us.

that last little bite you gave me today is something I will strangely cherish forever… rest easy, Pickle Rick 🤍
