LEAVING HIDES BEHIND-

Last week while participating in a group class, trainer led imagine my surprise when I called a confident "Alert" and received a NO!

I just could not believe it ........ my boy was so clear! I asked my Instructor if she was sure! Low and behold we checked and there was a hide never placed by her, exactly where my boy alerted.

Sadly this was and is not as rare an occurrence as one would think.

Don't misunderstand I know accidents do happen.

Let's all be more careful when using a public area not to leave hides behind. Count your hides, take a pic of their locations so you don't forget, or write down where you placed them.

Pulling a dog off odor unknowingly because you got a NO could confuse a newer dog and undermine their confidence. Would it break my dog, no, but still not something I want to do!

Sadly, you realize it is time to retire your competition dog, perhaps your Agility superstar, or your Fly ball "Speed Demon". Kudos to you for advocating for your dog.

Now what! Have you considered Nose Work/Scent Work. As a sport for the competition dog, it offers a safe stimulating atmosphere free of the physical demands of other sports. Providing them with the stimulation they still crave.

Think, your dog might be to old. Think again. Seniors Rock!!

Shout out to this 14.5 year old Nose work Super Star. Rocking this hide, and showing us what precision at source looks like. GO BULLET! Bullet started Nose Work at 11.5 year old and is still enjoying the game!
