Board & Train Update!
🐾
Bernie is rocking it with his training. He’s leaning the ecollar now and responding very well to it! He is still whining in the kennel, mainly when he hears me working another dog he gets FOMO. But we’re working through that because it’s important for him to learn how to relax in his kennel no matter what’s going on. He’s improving each day!
🐾
Toby just thinks training is so much fun! He gets a little too excited and can take food a little rough so we’re working on that. He’s working on the ecollar and responding really well to it! Today we were trying to practice recall with the ecollar and it was hard because he was so excited to train he was coming back to me before I even had the chance to call him let alone teach him ecollar pressure!
🐾
Henry is doing well too! He is a silly guy and definitely likes to see if throwing a fit gets him out of training. Once he realizes that temper tantrums don’t work, he gets on board and does really well! After the temper tantrum he is always very happy to work which is pretty funny, he’s just testing out his boundaries. He is doing great with the ecollar too!
🐾
Mac is doing his best. I’m using very high value food for him and he is hesitantly eating for me. We have been able to do a few ā€œbaby working sessionsā€ where I’m not asking him to do a lot but trying to get him to at least take a few steps for his food. He doesn’t eat consistently for me yet, he may take a piece or two then he won’t for a few minutes, then he may take one more. He’s definitely progressing but it is at a very slow pace. Theres nothing we can do but to keep taking this all at his pace and hope we get where we need to be! šŸ¤ž

Mac Update!
🐾
First…to my groomer friends, please look away šŸ˜‰
Mac missed his grooming appointment since he needed to get dropped off early. So since him and I have built a relationship (with his parents approval) I went ahead and gave him a little shave. While I have groomed a few dogs before he looks especially rough because he was too tangled for the clipper guard and I didn’t want to stress him out trying to get the tangles out so this was freehand clipper workšŸ˜‚
I know he feels better with those tangles gone and I’m very happy to have his face cleaned up. He had some eye bo**er matting and his face was so fluffy it was blocking his eyes. So now he’s tangle free for the most part and he can see!! In a few days I may try and evening him out but this was a function groom not a fashion groom.
🐾
That said…Mac did amazing for his groom! I was expecting to see some sassy behaviors from him like growling or snapping and he didn’t at all! He was so good for me I was so proud, we have come a long way from when he first got here and I could not put a leash on him. In other exciting news, with a yummy mixture of wet food and chicken he is eating from my hands and he even started working for me just a little bit! Slow and steady wins the race!

Miss Oakley was back for Puppy Program today and she’s gotten so big!
🐾
Today we talked more about it leash manners, did threshold drills and name games! We did some confidence building and talked about ways to work her through fears at home when loud sounds startle her. Looking forward to seeing her next week!

Lucy was back for Puppy Program today!
🐾
We did some food luring games and then she was exhausted and just wanted to stretch out and nap (same girl, same) while she rested we talked about her homework and her schedule for the week. I’m excited to see what progress they make!

B&T Update!
🐾
Mac had been having some tummy issues but I’m happy to report that today things were solid- TMI I know but that’s another sign that he is getting less nervous. He still isn’t interested in eating for me. I boiled some chicken and he did take two small pieces from my hand so that’s good! The game plan is get him comfortable eating from my hand, then following a lure, THEN we can begin obedience training!
🐾
Henry is the polar opposite of his brother- he LOVES to eat. His attention span when it comes to food and willingness to work through things to get his is phenomenal! This is going to make training with him a lot of fun! So far today we’ve done food luring for sit and down. He initially wanted to jump out of position anytime I said ā€œgoodā€ or really just not hold the position for more than 1/8th of a second. So we worked through that and I’m happy with the progress he’s made!
🐾
Bernie is also happily eating and working for me! He has done sit and down. Bernie is a little on the nervous side but works through fears very quickly with food which is great! Going into his training I was curious if he was going to have Separation Anxiety since both his parents work from home. I’d say he has the very very beginning stages so it’s really great he got into training when he did. He is just a little extra whiny in the kennel but not too terrible at all!
🐾
Toby is full of energy and excited to work for his food. This is funny because in Puppy Program he was so low energy! But he’s a happy, confident and goofy boy!! He’s done food luring for sit, down and place. We’ve also practiced let’s go and recall. Pictured here he is wearing his harness dragging a long line because I wanted to play some name/recall games with him outside without worrying about him stepping on his leash. He did great!!
🐾
I’m so proud of each of these cuties because they are all making progress in their own way!

Meet Henry!
🐾
This cutie is a 9 month old Bichon and he just got dropped off for his three week Board & Train. He is Mac’s brother! Pretty sure they are blood related since they came from the same breeding situation but we aren’t 100% sure, we’ll just call them bothers since they have the same human parents now haha
🐾
Henry does not have any significant behavioral issues other than marking in the house. Everything else is just typical untrained puppy- pulling on leash, jumping, annoying his brother etc. He can definitely stand to gain some confidence but he isn’t nearly as nervous as Mac.
🐾
Henry’s training will help his relationship with Mac too! They get along with eachother and they play well most of the time. But when Henry wants to play and Mac doesn’t he just gets on his nerves! That resulted in a fight between them which was one reason Mac got dropped off early. So we will teach Henry you can play with Mac if he wants, otherwise leave him alone.
🐾
I’m very excited to work with these boys, they are so lucky to have been adopted by a lovely couple. I know once they’re trained up they have a great life ahead of them!

Meet Bernie!
🐾
This handsome man got her today for his three week Board & Train! Bernie is a super sweet 9 month old poodle mix and he’s here to learn his obedience commands and some basic manners. The biggest goal for Bernie is to teach him manners that will help his relationship with his 5 year old (human) brother. He has the bad habit of jumping on his brother which can be very scary for a kid and he could knock him over! So we will teach him no jumping and we will practice other commands that will help them have a happy healthy relationship!
🐾
In addition to that Bernie is reactive on walks. He barks at dogs and people, so we will address that as well. He barks in the house, pulls on leash, puppy bites and other minor untrained puppy behaviors. That aside he’s super sweet and super smart! Today he is already working for food which is an amazing sign! I am so excited to work with him over the next few weeks and watch him grow into the beta version of himself!

After 6 weeks of FUN boarding at RKDT Mr Romeo went back home to his family today! Romeo hold the record for longest boarding dog (not counting training) Fortunately he loved every minute of it because he loves running and playing with his friends! I know he’s thrilled to see his family and get caught up on some cuddle time with them! It’ll just take me a few ā€œWHERE IS ROMEOā€ heart attacks to remember he’s back with his people šŸ„¹šŸ’œ

Mac Update!
🐾
As you can see he’s fresh out the bath in this photo. Poor guy has had been having diarrhea and has had a few accidents in his kennel. So he has needed a few baths. The benefit of this is it’s showing me that he really has gotten much more comfortable with me. He never growls or acts rude during his bath and he enjoys me cuddling him in the towel after a bath!
🐾
Here’s what we’ve got going for us so far-
āœ…No more growling at me
āœ…Comfortable with me putting leash on and off
āœ…Seems to enjoy affection from me most the time
āœ…Will eat food out of bowl in kennel
āœ…Calm and polite during bath
🐾
Here’s where we run into issues
āŒHe will not eat for me, not from my hand, not off the floor, not off the place cot. He has zero interest in ANY food when it comes to training or hand feeding. Without food as a motivator (and he obviously won’t work for toys or anything like that) I’m not able to do any training with him. I do not want to use pressure as a motivator for him- so until he eats for me we can’t start the actual training.
🐾
Now that he is comfortable with me I hope he will eat for me soon. He is going home tonight until Sunday because I will be out of town (and I can’t leave him with Lizzy) so his parents will have homework for him so we hopefully don’t get too far off track when he comes back on Sunday. I do have some ideas as to how I can get him comfortable eating for me so I’ll try those on Sunday when he is back and will share that progress with you when the time comes!
🐾
Overall, it’s good that he is starting to trust me. That is step one. We just continue to live at his pace and we’ll get there when we get there!

Lucy was back for Puppy Program today!
🐾
Her mom had to has done a great job with her homework. One of their biggest goals was threshold manners so they put in a lot of work doing door drills and Lucy has been rocking it!
🐾
Today we talked about couch manners - teaching her not to jump on the couch which then we will later make done jump on the couch unless invited. We also talked about leash manners and learned some name games! Looking forward to seeing them again next week!

Remember Toby? This cutie did Puppy Program with me back in April! Now he’s here for his 3 week Board & Train!
🐾
Toby is a super laid back guy and doesn’t have any behavioral issues. He’s just a sweet guy who gets to learn his obedience commands! Toby is a great example of ā€œNot every dog NEEDS training but every dog DESERVES training!ā€ Because while he is great and doesn’t have any issues, training will open the doors for so many cool and exciting things for him as he grows. Training can also prevent behavioral issues before they start!
