Trivia wednesday answer:
Chocolate contains theobromine and caffeine, which dogs cannot process the way humans can. Even small amounts can cause illness, and darker chocolates (like baking chocolate and dark chocolate) are much more toxic than milk chocolate.
⚠️ Signs of chocolate toxicity may include:
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Restlessness or hyperactivity
• Excessive thirst
• Tremors
• Rapid heart rate
• Seizures
If your dog sneaks some chocolate, don't wait for symptoms to appear. Give us a call right away! The type of chocolate, how much was eaten, and your dog's size all help determine how serious the situation may be.

Bonus points answer: Rabbits are more sensitive to a lower exposure of chocolate due to slower metabolism and sensitivity to gi side effects causing gastric stasis.

We all love Chocolate Labs… but most of us know actual chocolate isn’t safe for dogs. What ingredient is the culprit and what symptoms can we expect with chocolate toxicity?
Bonus points - why is chocolate exposure more of a risk in rabbits at even very low doses?

The answer to our 3 truths and 1 lie post.
Emma - A - She has drawn blood on a penguin before.
Conner - B - He has made friends with multiple snakes and will gladly help any he comes across.
Amber - C - Unfortunately her own dog gave her cause for concern when it ate something it shouldn't have.
The lie - D - Unfortunately bites can happen in their jobs. Care is taken to ensure this doesn't happen, but none of our techs have needed surgery after a dog bite.

It's that time of year and we want everyone in the house to stay safe. Is your pet microchipped and their registration information correct and up to date?

All jokes aside, we couldn't do our job without our technicians and we have nothing but love and appreciation for them!

Our throwback Thursday post highlights the varied skills and experience of our veterinary technician, Emma. While the closest we may get to a lion is how big some kitties personalities are, these photos highlight the wealth of experience, years of training, and knowledge our team brings to your pet's care.

Did you know that veterinary technicians are the "nurses" of the veterinary world? They monitor anesthesia, take radiographs, run lab work, and provide compassionate care to our patients every single day. From calculating precise medication dosages to assisting in surgery and comforting nervous patients in recovery, they wear a dozen different hats (and scrubs!) all shift long. Veterinary technicians can specialize in fields like emergency & critical care, dentistry, anesthesia, and zoological medicine just like human nurses and doctors can! Did you know in NY veterinary technicians must past a board examination and be licensed to perform many of their essential job functions?
