Interquest CARES - Michigan, School Counseling Assistance and Comfort Dogs Interquest School Counseling Assistance or Comfort Dogs that aid in bettering a student's behavior and experience in the school setting.

Being in the schools on a daily basis and watching our canines interact with students in a variety of ways beyond their detection work, we, at the Interquest of Michigan office, recognized the potential of using a professionally trained canine to assist schools in their general school day and counseling offices. Our school counseling assistance and comfort dogs can pick up on emotions, mental stat

e and physical ailments and aid in bettering a student's behavior and experience in the school setting. Based on the multitude of research on the effectiveness of service dogs and therapy dogs to interact with all varieties of people, Interquest Detection Canines of Michigan developed a comprehensive training program to provide schools with a School Counseling Assistance or Comfort Dog. Trainer Kim Heys is a member of the International Association of Canine Professionals, Drugbeat and Dogs for Law Enforcement and is also a certifying official for Interquest Detection Canines, Drugbeat and the AKC Canine Good Citizen program.

Training in live school environments allows us to expose the dogs to so many real world experiences. We choose them for temperament and train them with lots of exposure and confidence. It was nice to see all of that come together and Muffin go through her first ever fire drill like a champ! 🎉🐾

Exciting news to share! Congratulations to Matt and Roo on certifying today at Georgetown Elementary. Roo is the first comfort dog to join the staff at Hudsonville Public Schools and will work with Matt, the specialist and Emily, the librarian.

This one is so bittersweet for us here at Interquest. Around this exact time in October 3 years ago, we began training in Georgetown Elementary with our Interquest CARES dogs. In those three years we built many friendships, helped bring smiles to many students and staff and trained many dogs (guessing over 30) that went on to careers in other districts. Along with that, Emily helped personally raise both Phoenix and Solo and her library was often times home base for our training. We have essentially trained ourselves out of their building now that they have their own amazing dog.

A big thanks to all the staff and students, especially Ashley, Amy, Audrey, Randy, Emily, Julie, Courtney, Matt and Joe for always going above and beyond to help. We can't wait to hear all the ways that Roo gets to SOAR at Georgetown.

Well done, sweet Teddy ❤️🐾
It is with a heavy heart that I share that beloved counseling assistance dog at Maine West HS passed away this week at home with his handler. Teddy was the 2nd dog that Interquest CARES placed in February 2017. He served his students and staff well for 8.5 years.
