In Regards to concerns or questions from our previous post about the Rabies recall.

Rabies titers for dogs, which measure antibody levels, cannot replace mandatory vaccinations because the law strictly requires documented immunization to manage public health risks. While a titer can measure immune response for travel, they do not legally prove long-term immunity in the same way a booster shot does.

Key Reasons Titer Tests Cannot Replace Rabies Vaccines:
• Legal Requirements: Municipalities and states require vaccination at specific intervals, and titers are not accepted as a legal substitute for a rabies shot.
• Lack of Standardization: There is no universally agreed-upon titer value that confirms absolute, lifelong protection against rabies.
• Immunity vs. Antibody Levels: A low titer result does not necessarily mean a dog is unprotected, as memory cells may exist, but the law requires the vaccine for guaranteed compliance.

Safety of Second Shot: A second dose of rabies vaccination does not pose a health risk for the pet beyond the typical considerations associated with any vaccination.
We use a killed vaccine that is thimerosal free.

Important Update:
We received a letter that the Rabies Vaccine we use was recalled. The FDA is requiring we revaccinate any animal that received the affected lot number. If you are on this list we will call you to make an appointment.
***The recall is for mislabeled sterile water bottles that were mixed into a few trays of the vaccine. We are confident we did not have any but FDA wants everyone to revaccinate since it poses such a risk to animals and people.
