Emotional contagion is real between humands and animals. I find, that helping clients to calm by offering transparent care - staying in the room without restraining, having a role to deliver rewards, or stepping outside the exam room but having the ability to listen to what is happening reduces client stress.

Dr. Leslie Sinn has written an article here about Emotional Contagion. What is your experience with this phenomenon?

Does a pet owner's stress affect their dog in the veterinary clinic? Discover the impact in this study and how you can help provide a positive experience.

Hello CABC Supporters!

We are back with another Dr. Sophia Yin fun fact!

Dr. Yin was the co-inventor (with Sharper Image) of the Treat & Train Professional Dog Training System. Released in April 2005, it was designed to use positive
reinforcement for training dogs to run to a rug and lie down when visitors arrived at
the door, instead of jumping, barking, or dashing to the door. Development involved
conducting two research experiments, guiding engineers on required features,
product testing, writing an instruction manual, and creating an instructional DVD.

SAVE THE DATE!
Will you be in the Chicago area Saturday, October 18th? Possibly attending the Conference šŸ˜‰ The Sophia Yin Memorial Fund will be hosting the 2025 Sophia Yin Memorial Dinner to honor Dr. Yin's legacy and contributions to the field of Animal Behavior. Please visit https://vinfoundation.org/dr-sophia-yin-memorial-fund-dinner/ to sign up for updates on the dinner including location, ticket prices, etc.

Speaking, on site consulting for veterinary and shelter team, and on line education for all in Low Stress Handling

As a general practice veterinarian, with a special interest in animal behavior I saw the need to decrease or prevent stress in every animal in care. Collaborating with friends such as Rolan Tripp DVM, John Ciribassi DVM, ACVB, and the Sophia Yin DVM to name a few I started creating videos, blog posts, and presentations that were based on my practice experience - relevant to the real life challenges of a small town practice, and life. With the encouragement of these friends I created the Bella Behavior System for clinics and pet owners.

I now spend all my professional time presenting, consulting with clinics and shelters to create a low stress care experience, and creating educational content for pet owners and animal care professionals. Continued collaboration with you to build on this discipline of stress reduction in care is my passion. I look forward to the continued expansion of Low Stress animal care - it is changing the world for the better.

Thank you,

Sally J Foote, DVM, CABC-IAABC,LSHC-S
