If you're waiting on a message back, it's coming! We had a kiddo fall and break an elbow, so it's been a bit of a struggle bus over here. She had surgery yesterday! 💗

💗🦎 Rescue Update🦎💗

To say we've been busy is definitely an understatement!

We have 5 Leopard Geckos in our care right now that are available for adoption. If you have reached out to foster, I promise I am getting back to you shortly!

We have 3 guinea pigs in foster care right now also ready to be adopted into forever homes.

Ziggy and Zilla, our 2 very sickly Leopard Geckos, are still hanging in there. Another vet visit is in the cards soon, because even with treatment, the improvement has been minimal. Sometimes we have to re-evaluate our methods and try again.

We had an intake of 2 boas. Both boys are absolutely stunning and still in their quarantine period. We have a potential adopter lined up for both, but they have to travel to meet the snakes first and see if it's a good fit. We will update as we go! Right now, both snakes are in phenomenal health! Both are absolutely stunning as well.

We had a ferret come in and she has officially been promoted to ambassador status (which means she is staying here). The entire team here as fell in love with her, and she is so spoiled. Her cage is taller than I am! We will get her a friend when the time comes as well since they do better in couples or small groups.

We can't thank you all enough for the support, shares, and kindness from all of you. It truly means the world to us.

Successfully litter box trained our ambassador ferret 🥹

She has occasional accidents, and she will refuse to go if her litter box is not to her standards, but she has done phenomenal!

The thing I hear most about ferrets is they're smelly and gross. Well, ferrets do have a natural musk odor. It isn't necessarily unpleasant. I often refer to it as what I'd think a young raccoon would smell like (just one that hasn't yet been in trash). Their f***s and urine do smell if they're not on an appropriate diet. Many commercial kibble diets are not suited for ferrets. Ferrets are obligate carnivores. Any additives that are not strictly animal based protein are unhealthy and will cause digestive upset. This causes the smell. If they're fed appropriately, the smell is very minimal and tolerable. Kibble diets based solely on protein and raw diets are the best for ferrets. We use Oxbow for now as Sharkie is not a fan of raw diet foods.

Ferrets can also be potty trained to use a litter box! They're very intelligent creatures, but due to their stubborn nature they require a strict routine to train. Once they get the hang of it, it's great to help reduce smells and keep their cage odor down! Her bedding (absorbent liners) gets washed once a week and spot cleaned, if needed, every day.

With the correct care and devoted time, these sweet critters can make amazing pets for the right family. We love our Sharkie girl 💗 She is quite spoiled! 😆

🌟 Adoptable Spotlight: Meet Alvey! 🦎💛

Everyone say hello to Alvey, our sweet 6-year-old Leopard Gecko who's officially ready to find her forever family!

Alvey is as friendly as they come. She genuinely enjoys being handled and has learned that people = good things! The moment she spots food, she'll waddle right up to the front of her enclosure to greet you. One of her favorite bonding activities is taking bugs right from a pair of feeding tongs.

One of Alvey's most charming features is her adorable little tail, which has a small kink in it. We aren't sure what caused it, but it doesn't slow her down one bit—it just adds a little extra personality!

Alvey came to us as part of a larger group of reptiles and was a bit underweight when she arrived. Thanks to lots of good food, care, and love, she's absolutely blossomed into a healthy, happy gecko who's ready for the next chapter of her life.

Could that chapter be with you? ❤️

If you're looking for a gentle, curious reptile companion with a sweet personality and a one-of-a-kind tail, Alvey would love to meet you!

📩 Send us a message to learn more about Alvey or to begin the adoption process. Please help us by sharing this post so her forever family can find her!

‼️⚠️Foster Update⚠️‼️

Hey foster friends! I know we've fallen behind reaching out to fosters, but the rescue and the team has been super busy juggling new intakes and around the clock care for several.

We still have an abundance of Leopard Geckos looking for fosters or adopters. Our Foster-to-Adopt program is also an option.

The form is located here:

Please fill out a form if you're interested and we will be in touch ASAP. Our old form does not work anymore and we no longer have the responses from before.

💗 Zilla Update! 💗

We have some encouraging news about our sweet girl, Zilla!

Both of Zilla's eyes are now open, and both are responding to light. Night before last, I was able to gently flush the remaining debris from her right eye, which was a huge step forward. While she still isn't quite eating on her own yet, we're hopeful that now that her vision appears to be returning, she'll soon recognize her food and begin eating independently.

Thank you to everyone who has been cheering her on and sending kind words. Recoveries like this take time, but every little improvement is worth celebrating!

💚 Leopard Gecko Care Tip: Eye issues like Zilla's can sometimes be prevented with proper husbandry. Here are a few things every leopard gecko owner should keep in mind:

• Provide a humid hide to help with shedding. Retained shed around the eyes can lead to irritation and infections.
• Offer a balanced diet of gut-loaded insects dusted with calcium and a quality multivitamin that contains vitamin A. Vitamin A deficiency is a common cause of eye problems.
• Always provide fresh, clean water.
• Keep the enclosure clean to reduce bacteria and debris that can irritate the eyes.
• Leopard Geckos are prey driven eaters, and when they can't see, they won't eat. This leads to other issues like stomatitis (mouth rot) from stomach upset, or it can even lead to organ failure.
• If you notice squinting, swollen eyes, discharge, or your gecko stops eating, don't wait! Seek help from an experienced reptile veterinarian as early treatment can make all the difference.

Thank you all for following Zilla's journey. We're hoping the next update includes the news we've all been waiting for... that she's eating all by herself! ❤️🦎

"Is it worth it?"

I'm not going to sit here and lie and say that I haven't asked this question a few times lately to everyone who keeps this rescue afloat. The last couple of weeks have been very disheartening. We've had people get very irritated from lack of communication, people get very irritated for turning away adoption applications for good reason, and the list goes on.

The lack of communication is definitely irritating, yes. What you don't see is midnight syringe feedings after 8+ hour jobs. What you don't see is the vet visits that don't always end well. What you don't see is the struggle. This isn't easy. Those messages? They can wait if it means we're busy caring for animals who need it the most.

And guess what? We signed up for it all. And we'd do it again.

Because it is worth it. When the tiny animal on the cusp of death that you've been working so hard on finally takes a sip of water on their own, it's worth it. It's worth it all.

I got to see one of Zilla's eyes tonight and cleaned out the other fully. Now she's drinking water happily without assistance. We're all hoping that soon she'll be eating on her own without syringe feeds. 🙏

Moments like these... they're worth it.
