And then lastly at the show was the awards. First I have to say like I have many times. These kids are like family, not just this group but all the kids in camp. They mean as much to us as they do they horses. For many of you that see these you may not understand where some of these horses came from. Boone came from an auction place from the Tennessee area. We could barely touch him, he was afraid of everything and no one could really ride him much. Dozer can from a kill pen from PA, came here skin and bones.
Chester lived through two abusive/ neglectful homes. He's obviously still learning to trust and ride. Molly is a donation from someone who knew she needed to be with kids. Sally and Abenaki (snacki) came from my cousin who i am greatlfull for everyday. Snacki and still learning so much but is a great match for my granddaughter. And Sally is so patient and gentle. And then there's Pilot, or old man who ever loves. He's been ridden by so many. We bought him from someone local, he needed a home as they had another horse that they needed to care for. This horse will be loved forever. Some will question us letting him be ridden as he is old and thin. We tried leaving him back when they went out, time after time he jumped/ ducked under the fence and came screaming after them. Pilot has never been happier than when he's with everyone going for rides. His rider this year has known him for years here. He was only ridden in a ba****ck pad and a foam saddle (not sure what is called). This boy lived his best summer and will be crossing the rainbow bridge this fall.
